  1. Saw the Heath Brothers documentary last night in which he participated. R.I.P.
  2. There's a thread elsewhere with commentary from Chris Albertson, etc., but I'm not sure where it is.
  3. Zerang: Songs From The Big Book Of Love Paolo Fresu: Kind of Porgy & Bess Shipp: For Duke
  4. I have it & like it a lot.
  5. I like the Rempis / Johnson / Ochs Aerophonic CD!!
  6. Paula Hawkins: The Girl On The Train
  7. I find this comment interesting. If you have no problem acquiring music without paying the artists or their estates or rights holders what is due them, do you have a problem with people acquiring your music without paying you what is due you? I don't believe that's what he's saying - but will wait for his reply.
  8. If ever there was a movie that could make me feel less disgusted with "Lady Sings the Blues," this is it. Have you ever cringed for two hours? I did, in an HBO screening room. That said, Latifah does a good job with Bessie's songs and Music Dir. Evyen J. Klean was, as far as I could tell, the only person involved who truly cared when it came to authenticity. The writer/director (I use the terms loosely) is a clueless amateur who is hung up on her own lesbianism. What she has done to Bessie Smith is shameful. By the way, I would express exactly the same opinion had I not written a book upon this travesty is allegedly based. I hope I have answered your question, jhoots. That's why I asked. Thanks!!
  9. Chris - interested in your opinion on Queen Latifah as Bessie Smith?!?
  10. Reading it now. Provocative. For sure not a "beach" or airplane read.

    Anthony Braxton

7 CDs of Tristano, et. al. - wonder what that'll cost!!
  14. "We're" not supposed to buy these. However, I'll admit once or twice I have.

    Rod Levitt

I couldn`t resist these 4 Lp`s about 25 years ago. And I`m still love to play it. Sold my vinyl long ago. No more turntable.

    Rod Levitt

Couldn't resist. Bought the 2-fer CD.
  18. Dusty Groove now says they have it. Not sure how many copies.
  19. I would classify the "vocals" as non-intrusive. The voice used as an instrument. Somewhat, but not completely, reassuring.
  20. Tell me about the "vocals" on the new (S. Coleman) CD, & then I'll decide whether to part with $ for it. FWIW, I love Functional Arrhythmias.
  21. I'll hem & I'll haw, & then I'll wind up buying it.
  22. Arrived here in the US in one week from Dark Tree with a nice personal hand written note from Bertrand. No problem with mailing packaging. The music is great IMO.
