Saw him with Alexander at the Philly Art Museum maybe 10 years ago now. Excellent. His solo on the title track of Lee Morgan's "The Gigolo" was an early highlight of my jazz listening, and is forever pleasantly lodged in my consciousness.

The best parts of their first five albums (and some of the spare tracks) are my favorite music ever. Gene Clark was so underrated, and McGuinn was McGuinn. -

Some of the best Mike Bloomfield out there. This one was quite the sensation back in the day (ca. 1968). -
BTW, a plug for the Deer Head Inn. Great place to hear music, great Inn to stay at, nice people, incredibly reasonable prices ($120ish for a large, lovely room, you can eat a good sandwich for under $15). And spectacularly gorgeous Bushkill Falls is just a few minutes drive away. And music like this: Saturday, September 28, 7:30 to 10:30 pm, music charge $15 Grammy-Nominated Pianist Lewis Porter with an All-Star Tribute to Coltrane, Mingus, & Monk! Abraham Burton, tenor saxophone; Lewis Porter, piano; Kenny Davis, bass; Michaels Stephans, drums

Then go with Essential, I guess. I wouldn't want to end up with just one Skeeter Davis record and it doesn't have "The End of the World" on it. And "Essential" is, as mentioned, dirt cheap through Amazon. Just now ordered one myself, we can compare notes. If you want something with more cuts and almost certainly far better mastering (Taragon does an amazing job), there's this, but it'll cost ya 3-4 times what Essential will.

Agreed, but part of the problem is the default rate on student loans, though the multiple causes of that (some environmental, some self-inflicted) is a whole other loooong discussion. Does DOE consolidate private loans, or just federal loans? She only has one federal loan, the rest are private. -

I did, corrected now, thanks! -
We are friends with a young woman who just graduated college in May, and has close to $100K of college loans outstanding, 70% of them being private as opposed to federal. She is working full-time as an RN, but is not yet financially secure in any sense, as she has all of the expected life start-up costs as well as the school loans. She is seeking advice on how to best go about consolidating the loans, especially the private ones, to both lower the interest rates (ranging from 8% to 10.5%) and to significantly lower the monthly payments. My daughter works at a credit union, and her manager recommended lendkey.com. Anyone here have any knowledge of/experience with them? Any other advice you can offer? Post here, PM, or email me at john.felser@verizon.net. Thanks for any help you can give!

Have not heard the 3 x 4, wasn't sure what to make of it at this late date, but will look to pick it up based on your recommendation. I have all four of the boxes you mention. the L.A. box is very worthwhile, thought not at extreme prices. Worth waiting for one priced decently. -

Landmark reissue when the 2LP set coame out in the early 70's. We owe a LOT to that set and Lenny Kaye, as the whole garage rediscovery (one of my great joys) was fueled by it. Plus it's just a great listen! And the box set and some of the followup box sets are great, too. "Children of Nuggets" led me to the whole Paisley Underground scene, which I also love. -
+ labor, I assume. Would that be like another $100 or so?

Any SWAG estimates on total cost for that job?

Are CDs Still Worth Selling Online?
felser replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Try a list here and see how you do. Start with a smaller list and see if it is worth your while. Look at the "Offering and Looking For" topic, and you'll see that attractive items do sell if priced well. Much of what kills selling online is (ever rising) shipping costs, and a concentrated audience here means people may buy multiple CD's from you, saving on unit postage for all involved. You can see on Ebay history that CD's do still sell, it just takes some work. Book and CD brick and mortar stores in general are dinosaurish. I live in King of Prussia, with a massive, 400+ store mall. Not a single store in that mall sells books or CD's, nor do any stores in the surrounding community. To all, does somewhere like Dusty Groove still pay decently for used CD's? -
Time for us to buy a car. We always buy Honda Accords, and they stopped including CD players in 2018, so we are looking for a low-mileage 2016 or 2017, and know this will be our last car with a CD player. They started including XM radio with the 2019's, which would be an acceptable substitute for me, but my wife loves having a CD play for trips. I feel very old these days.

Well, it's what you hear being spoken if you play the original acetate of Robert Johnson's "Crossroads" backwards. -
Better World Books takes donations, sells online, provides to schools, recycles where appropriate, etc.Recently gave them several hundred books. Goodwill has a huge presence on Ebay reselling used CD's and DVD's, so I imagine they will gladly take those donations (I'll find out firsthand soon).

I really enjoy going back to my chosen era and discovering things that were not widely heard then. There was too much good stuff all at once then for it all to be absorbed. Currently listening to and greatly enjoying this. I appreciate mid-50's (the rock pioneers, especially Buddy Holly) through the 80's (especially U2, REM), but concentrate on British Invasion through dawn of Punk. -
