  8. Interviewed for Marc Myers' Jazz Wax blog, Dan Morgenstern reports he is currently writting liner notes for an upcoming 2 CD set on Music Masters with Louis Armstrong recordings from a 1937 NBC radio show. Many of the 24 tracks on the first CD have never been released before in any format—not even as bootlegs. The second CD features home recordings from Louis’ private tapes, including some music and conversation. The set is due early next year.

    Martial Solal

Probably this one was mentioned earlier in this thread, but I think it's worth mentioning again: Lee Konitz/Martial Solal - Duplicity (Horo HDP 17/18)... ...is a damn fine disc!

  12. Hey, this is not a pro-Def vs anti-Def match! Just thought this coincidence of release dates was really suspicious...
  13. But.... exactly at the same time of the "official" reissue? Remember their robbery with the Diz&Bird disc on Uptown? Not identical cases, as that was "fresh" material, but... that synchronization is highly suspicious, to say the least!
  14. But.... exactly at the same time of the "official" reissue?
  15. Most (if not all) of the material from Ristic label has never been issued on CD.

  18. Great to see another stride piano fan round these parts! Thanks for your input. Best regards, Agustín
  19. Please, report back on the new Sportiello when you listen to it. I really loved his debut album on Arbors! I will do. I already have his two solo records on Arbors and Jazz Connaisseur and love them both. So I am looking forward to this new effort. This is a wonderful album. Sportiello is splendid, covering stride, swing (Teddy Wilson, Count Basie, hints of Art Tatum) and be bop (Red Garland, Barry Harris, his teacher and mentor), he has a beautiful touch and swings effortlessly. Nicki Parrot's bass playing is a revelation: She has a big round tone and superb timing. Nicki also sings on a few tracks. She is an above average, if not exceptional singer, reminding me a bit of Stacey Kent. If you love Sportiello's solo album on Arbors you may also want to have this one. Thanks for this review, Tommy T. I'll put this one on my wish list for Christmas!
  20. Up for no particular reason!
  21. You won't regret it, Paul! The Don Lanphere sides are very interesting, and Leo Parker's "Mona Lisa" is worth the price of the disc itself. Needless to say anything on the Haig and the Navarro sides, obviously.
  22. What's Da Fatha smokin'?
