Guess I'll stick to the JSP. I'm happy with their sound! Got these Victor recordings on King Jazz CDs and sound's just OK. Since the JSPs seem to be OOP, I may consider acquiring the Frogs.

Frog has just reissued King Oliver's Victor recordings. Remastering by Ted Kendall (as told in the RedHotJazz mail list). DGF 64 - King Oliver - Call of the Freaks, The complete Victor recordings, vol.1 DGF 65 - King Oliver - New Orleans shout, The complete Victor recordings, vol.2 These two CDs duplicate the JSPs (remastered by JRT Davies), except for a new alternate of "Stealing Love".
  3. Has anybody got one of the two LP issues of "More Jazz at Comblain La Tour!" (RCA Victor LP 12": LPM 10317 or Red Bird LP 12": FSR 103)? If so, could you confirm that the only track featuring Tete Montoliu ('Billie's Bounce') is a trio track (Tete, George Leclerc and Jose Bourguignon), as stated on the discographical information I have found so far? I have got a scan of the program of this concert and it only lists Tete and Bourguignon. And also I'd be very grateful if you could add timing for this track. Thanks in advance! Agustín
  4. Jeffrey Lovell has done an amazing research work for his Joe Henderson chronology. In fact, it is still a work in progress project and he has also planned to work on a full biography.
  5. Just checked my notes: On July 28, 1964, the Dexter Gordon Quartet (Tete, NHOP, Riel) played at the TV building on Copenhagen (where they have been playing together at least from early June). This concert was broadcast on the Danish TV. So this itinerary doesn't seem reasonable at all: -July 28 --> Copenhagen (Denmark) -July 29 --> (Holland) -as stated in the information from Jazz Icons DVDs- -July 30 --> Molde (Norway) But it isn't impossible either.
  6. Do you know the line-up for the Dexter Gordon DVD? On July 30, 1964, the Dexter Gordon Quartet (with Tete Montoliu, NHOP and Alex Riel) was playing at the Molde Jazz Festival in Norway (there is a private recording of that gig). Could this be the same group? Gotta check Thorbjørn Sjøgren's discography of Dexter Gordon!

Yes! He would have been 74 today. This is a very commemorative TM year: on August 24, it will be ten years since he passed. Most Spanish jazz festivals will be in his memory this year. BTW: as a small tribute to this wonderful pianist, I have started the project to improve and expand my TM sessionography hosted at Michael Fitzgerald's Jazz Discography website into a full chronology/gigography. In some weeks, a major update to the discography will be uploaded. Tete Montoliu Discography Regards, Agustín

Unfortunately, our Musica Jazz LP included only one track from the Karlsruhe gig, the quartet version of "Stardust". The other unissued track from that LP was"Cotton Tail" (London, February 28, 1965, w/ Stan Tracey, Rick Laird and Jackie Dougan). If your're interested, EKE, I have a spare copy in our archives. Luca So the three tracks from that gig that I have (on a CD with diverse and rare Tete Montoliu material), were recorded directly from the radio broadcast and not dubbed from the Musica Jazz LP, as I had assumed. That's a really interesting discovery for me, Luca, as I have been discussing this gig with Heinz Baumeister, who has compiled a Ben Webster discography (available at http://www.benwebster.dk/discography.php ) and we did agree on this session (we probably share the same sources). I'll PM you on this issue (or rather we can use email --> here's mine: ekebbbapg@yahoo.es ) Regards, Agustín

There's yet another disc with Ben Webster and Tete Montoliu playing side by side: it's a Musica Jazz LP called just "Ben Webster" (2MJP 1068). This LP includes three tracks from a gig in Karlsruhe which was broadcast on SWF Jazz Session program, probably from the night before the "Ben Webster meets Don Byas" was cut in Villingen, with that same line-up (Webster, Byas, Montoliu, Trunk, Heath). These three tracks are a fifteen-minutes "Perdido", "Stardust" (omit Don Byas) and "Darn that dream" (omit Ben Webster).
  13. You mean 'No tengo dinero para los RVG', right?
  14. Here's the cover:
  15. Peter: There's still another one of Pee Wee with Alex Welsh: "Pee Wee Russell with The Alex Welsh Band" on Jazzology JCD-322. Yep, that's one I have. A very nice one!

And if you ever put your hands on this very rare LP (never reissued on CD), don't miss it! Highly recommended: Ben Webster In Hot House (will post the cover later, I don't have it handy)

This live recording is yet another another nice late period album: Ben Webster - Live at the Haarlemse Jazzclub Originally released on vynil by Cat label (Cat LP-11) , it was first reissued on CD by Cat (Cat CD 1104), adding a nine minutes version of "Perdido". It has also been reissued on CD by Limetree (MCD 040) [see cover]
  18. This one arrived to my mailbox today, from my last Jazzology order. Haven't heard it yet!
  19. I am trying to trace down the release date for the LP reissue of 'Gentle Ben' (Ensayo) on the Hungarian label 'Fidelio' (Fidelio LP 12”: FL 4475 – Gentle Ben). Back cover states Does anyone have any input on this label? Thanks in advance!

Very interesting disc. Got it for my Tete Montoliu research, but have enjoyed it all through! You were able to find a real copy of that? (..) Yes, I was. A year ago or so. But sorry, I can't recall from which online store I got it.

Yes, you're right, Chuck, I knew that (you told me about it a couple of years ago). I'm afraid "Straight reissue" was not an accurate expression. I was trying to express there were no additional tracks.

'Did You Call' is a straight reissue of 'Gentle Ben', that brownie mentioned. From my Tete Montoliu discography:
