  1. If the photo on the cover was taken while playing this new material, it´s late, very late Tete (I´d say later than 1995, probably even 1997, the year of his death). But this is just a supposition. BTW: volume 2 on this collection is dedicated to saxophonist Pedro Iturralde.
  2. Here´s the cover:
  3. It´s a 2 CD release on RTVE-Música (the label from Spanish public TV and radio) with unissued Tete Montoliu material. I still don´t know anything more about it, but will receive a review copy in a few days. It is the first volume of a collection called "Jazz en España", that will pay tribute to the main Spanish jazz artists (and non-Spanish artists that contributed to Spanish jazz scene), bringing to light unreleased stuff from RNE vaults.

  5. Thanks, Mike. At least this time Lord has changed something when copying from Bruyninckx: "vocal choir" for "female vocal group"! I knew the wonderful site you linked. It´s a listing of an amazing collection of Ellingtonia. Here´s the exact link where "Merrie Mending" is mentioned (Music Manuscripts, box 219): http://americanhistory.si.edu/archives/d53011am.htm
  6. After consulting Timner´s discography, Ellington´s autobiography, Strateman´s book and Lambert´s listeners guide, I haven´t found any version of this 1953 Ellington composition by the orchestra or any small Ellingtonians ensemble. I haven´t got Massagli´s New DESOR. Lord CD-Rom shows this Nina Simone session as the only recorded version of the tune (incorrectly listed as "Merry mending"): [s6503-4] Nina Simone Nina Simone sings Ellington: Nina Simone (vcl,p) acc by big band incl. strings + The Malcolm Dodds Singers (vocal choir) New York, 1963 I got it bad and that ain't good (*) Colpix CP425, Rhino R2-72472 [CD] Do nothin' till you hear from me - Hey, Buddy Bolden - Merry mending - You better know it - I like the sunrise - Solitude (*) - The gal from Joe's - Satin doll - It don't mean a thing (*) - Something to live for - Note: Colpix CP425(mono) = SCP425(stereo). (*) These titles also on Roulette CDP7-98584-2 [CD]. All above titles also on Pye (Jap)XM-139-Y, UPS-2032Y. Does anyone know another recorded version of this tune? Bruyninckx? Thanks in advance!

  8. Thanks, Hans.
  9. Just received this mail from (supposedly) Mosaic Records re my recent order for the Byrd/Adams boxset: Since I had never received this kind of messages from Mosaic and phishing is so usual these days, I am bit unconfident. My credit card limit hasn´t been exceeded, the expiration date is not near, and I think I entered my credit card number correctly. But before I make them a call, I want to know if any of you has ever received this kind of messages from Mosaic, if it´s Cindy who sends these mails, and if the sender is csr@mosaicrecords.com, as in the one I received. Thanks in advance! Agustín
  10. I don't think it's the same. I have a very poor transfer of the film on dvd-r and the tune times out less than 2 minutes. It appears to be performed live on the film (a night-club scene). Being able to watch OP play is very cool, (likewise with Hawk but he's not so rare on film) but the sound on my transfer is lousy. ← Sorry if my post misled you: I was meaning that probably the three tracks I mentioned contained the same version. If your version times out less than 2 minutes, we´re talking about a different one. OP is Oscar Pettiford?
  11. Bette Davis Miles Davis Buddy Miles
  12. Not sure if it´s as performed in the film "The Crimson Canary" (and I don´t have access to my Lord CD-Rom here), but "Hollywood Stampede" is included in the following three CDs, probably the same version (according to track timings): -Classics 926: Chronogical CH 1945 -Ocium OCM 008: Hollywood Sessions: The entire story of a group -Capitol 92596: Hollywood Stampede
