On first listen, I'm not thrilled by the overall performance. It feels very formal, not loose, with the exception of Sayonara Blues, and No Smokin, which are excellent. I couldn't find their playing much different than the studio performances,again excepting the two mentioned tracks.

Amazing detail and depth. Lots of tight bass.

Up and running. Pretty darn good.

How's the sound on the Studios box?

Probably not possible, but a George Coleman Timeless/Theresa set?

I am retiring in two months and I have done enough experimenting and playing around with equipment over the years, that i want to just lock in on an open baffle sound thatvI love. I like that I can swap out the driver and crossover if I want to.

I'm not doing the panda color scheme. I'm doing all walnut.

They just need to be a certain distance from the walls. Varies by room and what you have in it.

And I took the final plunge. Ordered Pure Audio Project Trios with horns. I've heard them. It satisfies all the things I have been listening for in speakers.

They may not think that but tell it to those in Europe and Asia who have decided until there is some clarity on this issue, they ain't shipping to the US for the time being.

There are many sellers I see on discogs that will not ship to the US. It's going to be a dry spell for a bit.

Second. This is an outstanding box set.

This is completely nitpicky, and as someone who hadn't bought a new box from Mosaic in years, but the materials used for the box and booklet are very flimsy.

I've never come across the Richard Davis Way Out West album. Awful cover, but a killer lineup! Would be nice if they did these:

Wow, what a line up! I will order this as well, probably on vinyl. Will wait for the initial fervor to die down and then prices will drop.

Thanks to those who have helped me rebuild my Mosaic set collection. While I'm still looking for the following: Savoy Bebop Dial Modern Jazz Clifford Jordan Strata East Atlantic Studio MJQ Ahmad Jamal The prices are high enough that I dont need to pursue them right now.

Don Byas disc 1. Absolutely loving this.

Picked up all three double lps sets recently and boy, have I enjoyed the music here! Jamil Nasser's playing is exquisite. I have enjoyed these more than the Mosaic box, and that was a very good collection. I wonder if there are more to come in the series.

Jazz Crusaders box

Considering how Coleman played later that decade, I find him very "polite" in his playing here by comparison. It's still good music.
