  1. Gave the game away, but here's a thread to talk about BFT 120.
  2. Jim, replace the clear plastic tray with a black one. Problem solved!
  3. I've been told the ID tags somehow are apparent when playing them on the computer. I have no idea how; I stripped them when making flacs, then reviewing them again file by file before compression. I apologize, and hope at least everyone can enjoy the sets for what they are.
  4. Up, looking for more listeners. Will send the links for downloads later today -- snowed in today, so this is a perfect time to do this.
  5. Received the SHM discs of Shorter's Speak No Evil and The All Seeing Eye. What erwbol said above, the differences in the RVG and SHM of Speak No Evil is slight, in that there is a slightly different depth and distinction of instruments, but not that significant to warrant spending $20. The All Seeing Eye, however, is significantly better than the Connoisseur cd. Destroys it. About as good as the Patton disc in terms of remastering. Sharp without being harsh or bright, punch to the drums, excellent depth. So, like David Ayers, I am wondering what the master digital sources are for these. Will albums that have been issued as Connoisseurs or appeared only on Mosaic sets have greater sound improvement on SHM cds than those that have appeared as RVG remasters? The only other discs I have ordered in this series are the Dolphy Out to Lunch and the Larry Young discs. I might be tempted by the Patton Understanding discs and a couple of the Elvin Jones, but I'm not looking for an overhaul of my library for these SHM discs. Also, take my words with a grain of salt -- the differences in our listening systems and ears will vary. My stereo system has been mentioned earlier in this thread, so you know where I'm coming from.
  6. That is more than okay. I'll have this thing ready hopefully by tomorrow.
  7. I use the enzymes from my spit and a little elbow grease to clean my vinyl.
  8. I think you are right. On another listen, there is a bit more separation of instruments than the RVG. Still not a great SHM disc.
  9. It's not complete at all, just the "Masterworks." I did pull the trigger on it yesterday through amazon.de.
  10. Up, I'm refining the playlist -- it's going to be a good one, I hope, worked hard to put this one together. A balance of out and in. Music to blow away the winter doldrums. Need more participants!
  11. The Pacifica is really good, and also under Carter's supervision. Though the Julliard is so cheap I may dip in for seconds....
  12. sonically or in content....? i was finally able to listen to 'on broadway' and 'grass roots' on my freshly serviced 2270 last night. i liked what i heard - detail, musicality, and at least on these two titles, an excellent soundstage. order #2 being placed this evening... Sonically. Makes me wonder if they used the same master as the RVG. The Patton and Rivers both sound better than the shorter Juju. Or maybe I need to clean my ears....
  13. Received the SHM version of Juju. Not much different than the RVG.....
  14. RIP. Just picked up the Jazz Flamenco cd from DG, which is a fascinating set.
  15. Ordered it from DG (da bastids!). People should not sleep on the Elvin Jones Coalition and John Patton Understanding discs either.
  16. And so it goes.....
  17. Getting ready for March!!!!!! Let me know if you wanna download or mail. This may be two discs; I'm having trouble containing all the goodness in one.
  18. Not an itunes issue, but the usual "if I put my Mac to sleep, the connection is lost" issue. I would have to reboot the airport for it to reconnect to the mac (or vice versa). It is not my main router, but once it did "take over" the main router upstairs when I had to reboot that device; for some reason the airport thought it was the main one and directed all traffic through it. Even when set as slave mode.
  19. It's a classic. The price was right.
  20. Probably get a new cartridge for my thorens 160 (rebuilt and upgraded). Looking at a denon 110. Down the road, the emotiva dac looks real nice. I want to stream to my stereo without the hassles that my airport device has been giving me.
  21. Don't look at magazines. Check out audiogon.
  22. Not any more. That must have been a two minute sale.
  23. Listened to "New Conception" and "Odyssey of Iskra" last night. Again, both have a lot of depth to the sound; the placement of instruments is more recognizable; I guess clarity is the operative word here. Rivers' horn sounds gorgeous, up front but not abrasively so. The Iskra disc sounds magnificent. I haven't compared the Rivers to the Mosaic set, but it is easily recommended for those who don't have this album, as it is a beautiful session of standards, which according to the liner notes, disappointed many who had been following Rivers, as they were seeking more adventurous music, and it apparently did not sell well. I am not looking to upgrade the small remaining Blue Notes in my collection, but based on these discs, I ordered the Dolphy and the other Shorter discs because I think this is a significant sonic upgrade. Take note that I have upgraded elements of my stereo system, and that in many (but not all) instances the RVGs, a lot of the Connoisseurs and some McMasters don't sound as good as the SHM discs. By this I mean they sound flat. This may not apply to your listening experience.
