  1. Careful.
  2. Scott, you have entered the audiophile rabbit hole. Once you settle on the speakers, then you will have to revisit the speaker wire issue. And connectors. And power cable.......
  3. Listened to the first disc. Really liking this. A real mash up of eras, yet it is cohesive. A couple of tracks I did find to be repetitive, but most of it is really inventive and good listening. The Monk influenced tune was really nice.
  4. Mine came in today. It will occupy a special place in my library. It has to; the damn thing is packaged such that it can't fit on a normal cd shelf!
  5. Lafferty was a fantastic writer. Past Master is a classic, as is Fourth Mansions, the latter being one of the best fantasy/sci fi/whatever genre novels I have ever read. There was no one who could write like him.
  6. There are jazz record stores in Manhattan. Jazz Record Center, and Downtown Music Gallery. Almost forgot. Academy Reocrds is still around.
  7. The Thing - Boot! Got this late 2013; it is highly recommended. Hard rocking improv jazz.
  8. I use my mac mini to stream to my apple TV or airport express to my stereo as well.
  9. Nothing wrong with the Prestiges. Nothing wrong with the Atlantics. Or Impulses. Coltrane's career was such that you can pick an era and live in that world. I will always prefer the Impulses, not only for what he had achieved, but the direction he pointed to for others.
  10. My mom would tell me when she was a kid in the South Bronx in the 50s, Tito Rodriguez would come into the neighborhood (the predominantly Puerto Rican Ft Apache area, before the Cross Bronx Expressway was built and destroyed the neighborhoods) in his shiny brand new car to show off his fame to the locals, who all loved him. He would get his exercise by shooing the young kids away from the car. My grandmother may have known him.
  11. It was up on Amazon.com very recently -- now I see it is no longer in stock. Wait for the holidays to pass, and the stores should have it restocked. I thought I had seen it for $160.
  12. Or burned what is left of downtown. Seriously, I think Detroit banned Millen from entering its city limits. Or buying any of their cars.
  13. It comes up because the local sports reporters (who are part of the problem as well) try to out do one another with whatever seemingly plausible or loosely connected threads that are out there and make it into a story. But this one has some legs; apparently Snyder did meet Cowher in the past six weeks. And guess who the middle man was? James Brown, the CBS football anchor and Cowher's coworker. Having said that, I have a feeling they will look at better candidates like Jay Grueden from Cincinnati or the OC from Seattle or San Francisco.
  14. Emotiva makes good products. Scott, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the DAC -- in another thread, of course, since this is about speaker wires. I only have their 1st generation cd player.
  15. I agree with that 100%, Mr. Russell. It's one of the reasons why I've stuck with mid-fi rigs throughout the years. I just don't believe in spending more than $5K on one. To me, the returns you get from $10,000 rig over one that is $5,000 simply doesn't justify the extra dollars. Now folks like Kevin and Lon draw that line a little higher up, and that's cool because I know they both have great rigs that do indeed sound better than mine, and I'd love to hear both. And would do so with a huge grin on my face. Everyone has to decide for themselves when to say when.
  16. No kidding. Snyder is second only to Jones when it comes to an egomaniacal owner clueless about the game of football. He just tends to be a little more hands off than Jerry. If they don't have someone come in and mentor RGIII with his mechanics this off season, that team could be in the toilet for many years to come. I know he still favors that knee, but his mechanics this season made him look like Troy Aikmann last season. Agreed. And they better not get a "name" coach like Cowher (yes, there is one local media report stating that they are targeting him) or Gruden. Firing Shanahan and his crew was a shame, but it had to be done.
  17. Look, just be glad you aren't a Redskins fan. I am about to throw in the towel after this awful season. Tired of my team being the butt of the NFL, with a clueless owner, and a terrible coaching staff. They destroyed a promising team, and they are back in the cellar with a top draft choice going to another team.
  18. Then leave it at that, Scott. No need for this evangelical ranting.
  19. I'm not advocating buying expensive wiring. I am advocating synergy between the components, and wiring is one of many things to consider when setting up a system.
  20. The old snake oil argument. The endless debate in the audiophile world. I actually agree with Lon; there is a difference, depending on the equipment one has.
  21. Discovered this bit of information from another forum, that J & R recently laid off their entire music staff and is no longer selling music in the store or online. Checked out their website, and this seems to be true. Has anyone been there in the past week to confirm?
  22. You're right, I don't want them Yeah, you partially influenced me in checking out Curzon, among many others who speak highly of his playing.
