  1. Bargains? Perhaps not, but I bought these at the lowest prices I've seen:
  2. Received my copy today. Yeah, this is outstanding. Zeitlin is no slouch on this either.
  3. Larry, you are probably right. I am less knowledgable with his overall work, just the snippets of classical that sometimes get my attention.
  4. $60 shipped from Amazon (resellers):
  5. Adam Gopnik has been around for years. Until this article, I thought he was a better than average critic. MUCH better than his brother, Blake, who is an insult to anyone who set words to paper or digital form. Blake was an art critic for the Washington Post who was always condescending towards his readers and/or his subject matter. Adam always wrote about classical, rarely jazz, so I have no idea where this revisionist history about Ellington is coming from.
  6. Sam Rivers Tuba trio sessions. Creative Construction Company Bill Dixon produced Savoy 60s sessions
  7. More like "when hell freezes over" wish lists: Chico Hamilton Impulse years Yusef Lateef Impulse Years Don Byas Small Group 40s 50s recordings Blue Mitchell Mainstream recordings Any LEGIT Horo reissues
  8. I love the Barshai Symphonies, and the added material made this impossible to resist ($86 shipped from broinc.com):
  9. The Matana Roberts disc stands out for me amongst the new releases this year. I enjoy the releases from independent labels like Clean Feed, NoBusiness, and others, but I have also been paying more attention to other genres, like African music and metal, the latter I think is the real story of 2013, of a resurgence in talent and real solid albums by bands old and new.
  10. This is one box set Soul Note needs to put together. Still dreaming of an Impulse box as well.
  11. I prefer the Carlos Kleiber disc as well.
  12. It's a hell of a set. Remastered beautifully.
  13. I agree, but clearly Jazzloft wasn't in a position. DId they do their research? Did they have the options that DG has? I checked out DG to see what the shipping costs for a single cd is to the UK. Five bucks. A four cd box set? $30, international economy shipping. Brutal.
  14. To be fair, there are different standards for mailing for businesses than for individual sellers. I am aware that ebay was offering a service for overseas shipping, but it involves one to ship it to them and then they mail it out. I don't understand how it works.
  15. With regards to DMG, I usually call them for orders. They are very good about that. But yes, they aren't user friendly on the web.
  16. No idea. If Jazzloft was indeed a source for Squidco, how will they react? Is Jazzloft a source as well for Forced Exposure and Downtown Music Gallery?
  17. I really think that aside from downloads and streaming, the increase in costs for overseas shipping has really killed sales for independent sellers, online or otherwise. It has to be first class priority shipping or nothing. It's brutal.
  18. It happens. I have to say Jim, the sound quality is terrific! And the bonus disc is chock full of greasy goodness. Love it!
  19. I thought I could drop the flac files into Toast and burn a disc. The tunes were all skipping. I was able to play the files with a flac player and no issues. Converted the files to aiff and no issues on Toast.
  20. RIP Chico.
