  1. Bookshelf, snookshelf. What you need Scott, are a pair of behemoths that will absorb a huge footprint in your listening space and annoy your neighbors when you barely have the volume at 2. But they are supposed to sound fantastic:
  2. There needs to be a contemporary Bernstein-like conductor who can do for some of the contemporary conductors like he did for Mahler back in the 60s.
  3. This is what happens when a record company mines an artist's catalog so many times. One has to become obsessive to make sense of it all. Especially now learning of the extra time in the Mastersounds edition. I fully expect the bootleg series to issue more from this time period.
  4. as for Scherchen, there's Tahra ... they have their own website but it's hard to navigate (21 pages of available releases) ... look here: http://www.musicandarts.com/Tahra.html here's the website: http://tahra.com/index.php I've actually ordered one from Music & Arts that was unavailable everywhere else and it got delivered pretty fast ... Thanks, I do know about the Tahra site. It's just now I am spoiled by the mega box set packaging, and his would be perfect for one.
  5. Party at JSngry's house!
  6. There needs to be an extensive Horenstein box. Scherchen as well, but that's another topic.
  7. You'll like it!!!!
  8. Pre ordered it as well. I have a 2 cd set (released in the early 2000s) of Ronnie Lane's music called "Ain't No One Like....." which is going for stupid money on Amazon. Hopefully this reissue will have better remastering than the Track Records release. The music is great.
  9. It's a mixed bag. I have some McMasters because they sound or are mixed better than the RVGs. I have some TOCJs because at the time those were the only editions in existence. Most of them sounded better than the US counterparts. Connoisseurs I have because that's all there was. They do sound the worst of the lot. I have a bunch of RVGs as well. I can't speak about the new releases, but I have on order Sam Rivers' New Conception and John Patton's That Certain Feeling. I'll find out when I get them how good the sound is. Maybe then I will upgrade some titles, but not all. There's too much other interesting music out there to grab my attention.
  10. I had no idea there were such variations in timings. I'll have to check my Mastersounds of Pangaea and Agharta....
  11. I've been listening to a lot of stuff in mono lately. Not the Miles, but some jazz and especially classical. I might get that mono box, but at a cheap price. There are too many other things that grab my attention.
  12. Suddenly all sense of normalcy is disrupted at all TJ Maxxes by an influx of jazz nuts, most of whom have never stepped inside the stores.
  13. Snowed in today -- finally listening to the bonus disc from start to finish. I like it even more than the "official release" disc! Puts a smile on my face.
  14. On disc 3 now. Music to shovel snow to........
  15. I think what is unique about the cheap Bohm Wagner set is that is is newly remastered (2012 or 2013 remaster), and the improvement is supposed to be significant.
  16. A great price on the Wagner.
  17. I received notice that an Ansermet French Music box was processed and shipped. I looked at the amazon.uk site and it is already out of stock (!?!). Some seller is already charging 300 pounds for a copy.
  18. Halfway through listening to this set -- so far, so good!
  19. download, thanks!
  20. sigh, pre ordered. That amazon uk tip is too good to pass on.
  21. Picked up the Ansermet box for 39 pounds (with shipping to the US, total $69).
