  1. The Heifetz/Piatigorsky set for $20 was too good to pass up.
  2. I thought Saul Bass had a hand on the design, but perhaps it was the television logo I'm thinking about. http://www.pinterest.com/ardenriordan/neil-fujita/ I'm surprised there isn't a book on his designs and graphics.
  3. While I'm glad there is a resurgence in interest and buying of vinyl, my recent visits to several independent shops -- in Richmond, VA and in DC -- have shown a very similar stock of titles, all new, all expensive. The stores that have a larger stock of used lps, no matter the genre, are few. I'm wondering if this similarity will hurt these stores in the long run, as they are competing with online retailers.
  4. Oh that's not good; optimal cable dynamic range can only occur on the 4th floor of a mid level high rise, and only if your place is facing north.
  5. Go to the Mapleshade website and see what they "offer" in the latest and greatest in cable elevation technology. Notched cut blocks of wood.
  6. I thought carpet had an effect on the wires as opposed to hardwood floors? Btw, snakeoil are the cable elevating sticks that are sold by certain vendors.
  7. Geez, DG corporate brass, could you find an uglier picture to slap on a box set? Fricsay, long dead, should be pissed:
  8. I have always a fondness for modern American classical music. Sessions, Ruggles, Fine, Carter, Crumb, etc.
  9. Just doesn't exist. You either have to find a local audiophile store or tough it out online. Audio Advisor is a good site to at least get a feel for what is out there, that is above chain store grade.
  10. I'm looking for a discography for this series, if one exists. The web gives me very little info. Or, anything from Music From Our Time Series. An example: or
  11. Alfred Brendel box for 30 euros! Sold out......
  12. Not tempted. Not a Horowitz fan. Will plunge for Ansermet Russian box.
  13. Monk + Blakey = freaking great music.
  14. The Swans - To Be Kind
  15. It's gona be a McMaster bonanza!!!!!
  16. Italy was the one that surprised me. I had two box sets ready to order, but held off for one week (had it in the cart at the last week of April, had planned to order this week). The shipping doubled. Basically, it would be paying for a third box set.
  17. It finally caught on, sadly.
  18. The bargains may be over, when price comparing with amazon Spain, Italy and Germany. I'm seeing shipping costs starting at 14 euros for a box set.
  19. I'm noticing that amazon.it shipping prices have doubled, when it comes to box sets.
  20. The Budapest set is excellent. Hopefully Sony will do a mega box of their recordings. And Julliard, etc.
  21. Is good. Very very good. Don't be put off by the sound quality.
