  1. Lene Lovich looks exactly the same......
  2. The Fischer is different, but I still have it in my collection; hopefully I will come around to enjoy it as much as others have. The Steig was genuinely ear opening, as it blew my conceptions of what can be done by flute (other than Eric Dolphy or Roland Kirk, but neither were pure flautists). Yes, I am looking forward to more Tapscott!
  3. Call it what you want, but I don't like being told what I would like and what not. Anyway, I'll not respond to your "sonic posts" anymore. I can only hope you'll do the same with mine. That is just being an ass. There was nothing patronizing about his post. This discussion has been all along about the character of sound for these reissues, which have been enlightening, to say the least. Don't want to be told? Then go back to the Hoffmann board.
  4. I'm using these: http://signalcable.com/classicspeaker.html Bi-wire, connected to a pair of Dahlquist DQ-20i speakers. Got the "MagicPower" power cord as well. Powered by this: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0809/jungson_ja88d.htm Next to listen is Wayne Shorter's "Odyssey of Iskra." Based on what I have heard from the Patton, I ordered the Dolphy Out to Lunch SHM from Amazon resellers.
  5. Listened to the John Patton. What I am noticing is a lot of depth to the sound; it's not flat at all. Really rich, you can feel the sound of the organ. (Take this for what it's worth; I received some new cables for my stereo and they are still in the break-in stages).
  6. I think the reason they don't serve drinks is that they do not have a cabaret license, nor a liquor license. It is meant to be purely a performance space with no amenities, and that all proceeds go to the artists.
  7. I'm not a die hard hockey fan, but that was one of the best games I have ever seen, with tension and controversy.
  8. Scott, I believe you have an excellent system, and are continuing to expand on it with the speaker search, but I am ALWAYS dubious about anyone's claims that his/her system can match or exceed another's. What you have built is the perfect system for your tastes. Audio forums are littered with such claims.
  9. ..... for $1,500? Naah, not even on Craigslist could you find those puppies below 2K. heh!
  10. Bookshelf, snookshelf. What you need Scott, are a pair of behemoths that will absorb a huge footprint in your listening space and annoy your neighbors when you barely have the volume at 2. But they are supposed to sound fantastic:
  11. There needs to be a contemporary Bernstein-like conductor who can do for some of the contemporary conductors like he did for Mahler back in the 60s.
  12. This is what happens when a record company mines an artist's catalog so many times. One has to become obsessive to make sense of it all. Especially now learning of the extra time in the Mastersounds edition. I fully expect the bootleg series to issue more from this time period.
  13. as for Scherchen, there's Tahra ... they have their own website but it's hard to navigate (21 pages of available releases) ... look here: http://www.musicandarts.com/Tahra.html here's the website: http://tahra.com/index.php I've actually ordered one from Music & Arts that was unavailable everywhere else and it got delivered pretty fast ... Thanks, I do know about the Tahra site. It's just now I am spoiled by the mega box set packaging, and his would be perfect for one.
  14. Party at JSngry's house!
  15. There needs to be an extensive Horenstein box. Scherchen as well, but that's another topic.
  16. You'll like it!!!!
  17. Pre ordered it as well. I have a 2 cd set (released in the early 2000s) of Ronnie Lane's music called "Ain't No One Like....." which is going for stupid money on Amazon. Hopefully this reissue will have better remastering than the Track Records release. The music is great.
  18. It's a mixed bag. I have some McMasters because they sound or are mixed better than the RVGs. I have some TOCJs because at the time those were the only editions in existence. Most of them sounded better than the US counterparts. Connoisseurs I have because that's all there was. They do sound the worst of the lot. I have a bunch of RVGs as well. I can't speak about the new releases, but I have on order Sam Rivers' New Conception and John Patton's That Certain Feeling. I'll find out when I get them how good the sound is. Maybe then I will upgrade some titles, but not all. There's too much other interesting music out there to grab my attention.
  19. I had no idea there were such variations in timings. I'll have to check my Mastersounds of Pangaea and Agharta....
  20. I've been listening to a lot of stuff in mono lately. Not the Miles, but some jazz and especially classical. I might get that mono box, but at a cheap price. There are too many other things that grab my attention.
  21. Suddenly all sense of normalcy is disrupted at all TJ Maxxes by an influx of jazz nuts, most of whom have never stepped inside the stores.
