  1. Books are nice, but his real claim to fame was inventing the styrofoam.
  2. How about some TOCJ 1500 and 4000 series cds at those prices? Now that would be a challenge!! I dare you, Hans!
  3. For the past few days I've been enjoying the Tina Brooks Mosaic 4 Lp set which sounds much much better than the corresponding BN Connoisseur cds. Unfortunately I don't have any original pressings to compare to the Mosaic, but some of you do. What's your take on the quality of Mosaic vinyl in general?
  4. LD will be appearing at the Village Vanguard this weekend. So will I.
  5. I don't like opening the Mosaic boxes, especially the old designs, because they get damaged so easily, so I store the Lps outside the boxes. I have been able to buy some Mosaic-sized boxes and I put the Lps and the books in them. Will post photos if you want.
  6. I've noticed it on some Lp as well as cd covers. My take on this is that it has to do with the quality of paper itself, not anything else. Like Clunky said, the acids used to bleach paper will yellow it with time. That is why you see the inscription "printed on acid-free paper" inside the title pages of books sometimes. I'm afraid there's nothing we can do to stop it.
  7. I'd like to call myself an audiophile and I have a hard time believing that power cords make a difference. Just to set the record straight - you have hundreds of thousands of feet of non-audiophile-quality cable running from the power station to your house, with all kinds of spikes, interferences, poor insulation, etc; then you attach a 3-foot piece oif copper wire to the wall outlet and voila - the sound is transformed. PS - I do hope your power cord been cryogenically frozen! Cause if not - you are in deep s@#t, amigo!

Time to pay the bastards a call.

You got me somewhat curious. Does anyone have any sound samples, an mp3 file, perhaps?
  10. I have some Mosaic cd sets I'd like to trade for the Lp sets of the same. We can use ebay completed auctions as a pricing point, if you wish. Paraphrasing Bruce Dickinson, I have the Mosaic vinyl itch, and the only prescription is more Mosaic vinyl.
  11. I wish I had the book. I hear it's very good.
  12. Greg Osby - The Invisible Hand-Job Cecil Taylor - Conquistadork Ike Quebec - It Might As Well Be A Drink Lee Morgan - Tarumasa Hino's Old Man Jimmy Smith - Back At The KFC Lee Morgan - Sonic Broom
  13. I want to trade this book for the second volume of this 2 vol. series.
  14. Condition - 4 LPs NM-, box in rough shape, no book. $45 shipped.
  15. That cop is a fucking moron. Nuff said.
  16. It's happening under the header of "The Story of Impulse! Records" With Charnett Moffett, Eric Kamau Gravatt, Eric Alexander, Wallace Roney, Steve Turre and Donald Harrison. I'm kinda on the fence about this gig. Apparently Tyner is on tour doing this Impulse thing now. What's the word on this band?
  17. Happy Birthday!!!!
  18. I'm no music professional, but I have a pretty strong suspicion that he doesn't know how to play the tenor saxophone [i would probably do just as well if someone showed me which buttons do what].

    ALICE COLTRANE

Terry Gibbs - Jewish Melodies in JazzTime comes pretty close to bebop.
  20. Nice speaker, unfortunately it only goes down to 40Hz. I had the Nautilus 804's for a few years, sounded similar to yours, detailed with a constricted low end [you may disagree, but it's the truth]. A good subwoofer will take these speakers on the whole new level. RE: cds. Start browsing ebay for the xrcd's; all of the ones I have sound tremendously detailed, which your speakers[and you] will appreciate. A real wow effect on your non-musical friends.
  21. What model B&W's?
  22. cool_blue, if you wantst to be cool again, then givest me mine record presently, or thou be known as a kurr round here.
