  1. Did Lee Morgan get paid for the use of The Sidewinder? According to Wikipedia, Chrysler settled.
  2. Earl Coleman- Love Songs
  3. There are plenty of rock and blues songs titled after alcoholic beverages. I’d imagine blues leans towards whiskey. Jazz... Days of Wine and Roses Gil Evans - New Bottle Old Wine Jackie Mclean - New Wine in Old Bottles Manhattan Project - Old Wine, New Bottles How about Lush Life ? Strayhorn hits it direct - “ jazz and cocktails”.
  4. In my experience, the six-eye Columbias are uniformly well-pressed, with high quality control, on top notch vinyl. I reflects across the genres, not just jazz, but classical as well. If I see a clean Columbia Masterworks stereo six-eye classical album, I buy it, because I know it'll be a delight to listen to. So, yes, it's not just the 'collector' instinct, but it also plays part, of course. I like the sturdy covers, well-printed artwork that was designed by talented professionals. So yeah, much like the Blue Notes, its; the whole package.
  5. eBay prices are climbing up. An honestly described, clean 6-eye set is $30+ now. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=the+golden+years+billie&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1&_sop=16
  6. The Black Unity Trio is on tour of the Netherlands.
  7. Nice! I picked up a mint 2-eye for $3 in the bargain bin at the old Academy Records in NYC around 2001, then a six-eye, also on the cheap. These could be had for a song, but not any more. Enjoy!
  8. Holiday six-eye, or two-eye?
  9. Jimmy Smith - Back at the Chicken Shack. Original mono BLP 4177, in pretty decent shape. Picked up, strangely, in a flea market in Reykjavik in early March 2019. Apart from a local soccer club shirt for my boy, this was the only souvenir I took home from the island, an amazing, other-worldly place. And the music is smoking good, as if anyone can argue that. I'll always associate it with Iceland now.
  10. Nice find. I think I have this record. Don't remember a thing about it. What does 'wring apps' mean?
  11. I'll watch it this week. Have you watched 'Maradona in Mexico' ? He was not in any kind of shape mentally and physically these past years. Sad to see one of the few true geniuses in this sport to disintegrate so overtly, and irreversibly.
  12. Musicians, tell me why young people go into the conservatory jazz studies today? The BMus graduates play impeccable solos they memorized from your textbooks. Hard bop is hot; there's plenty of it one can take in live every weekend, at least where I live, but it doesn't excite, unless a casual listener. Where are they going to be when they are 10 years older? I imagine there's no money in it for most, and by then they've got to realize they are not very unique as players.
  13. This year's dinner will be different on several levels, but mainly because it's only me, the wife, and the children. Also, this is the first time I'll be smoking a turkey in a Weber Smoky Mountain. Wish me luck!
  14. You lucky dog, you! Respect!
  15. Oh no....for me he was the most naturally-gifted footballer of our time, maybe of all time. Watching him on the pitch was like listening to Coltrane flying through the Giant Steps. Effortless, inventive, full of humor...brilliant. The only other one who was in the same orbit - Ronaldinho.
  16. Played this on youtube. Crazy shit...reminded me of my much younger nights at the Tonic, the Knit, DMG, the first three or four Vision Festivals and other sundry downtown venues of repute. I'm not buying this, guys, but enjoy, if this is your bag!
  17. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B086HWSV8P/ref=atv_hm_hom_1_c_iEgOEZ_2_1 Really enjoyed this take on Hercule Poirot by John Malcovich. The real twist comes all the way at the end of the last part.
  18. Her home aide has not been wearing masks?! Please, make them do it. Can you request another home aide for your mom for the next 2 weeks? My mother had Covid, most probably picked it up from one of her home aides in the Spring of this year, since they've been the only people to visit her in the past 8 months. Luckily she had zero symptoms. She tested positive for antibodies, that's how we found out.. Also, here is a peer reviewed publication stating the Covid-19 antibodies were present in samples gathered in Northern Italy as early as September of 2019. Which, to me, brings this onto yet another step of mendacity surrounding this pandemic. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0300891620974755
  19. I'm honestly shocked we haven't been flooded here with dozens of contemporary Country album covers. They really only play on these four themes - lost my truck, lost my gun, lost my my girl, lost my dog.
  20. Prepare for more.
