  1. For the same reason I stopped reading the NYT. I remember reading an issue on a transatlantic flight last summer, and the Hillary love-fest even made it into the Arts section, where they were salivating over her wardrobe choices. In conjunction to all of that the quality of their writing suffered tremendously. That was the end for me. Does Seymour Hersh still write for the New Yorker? Damn good journalist.
  2. Yep, it's about time he stepped down. Not that it'll make any difference. These do suck, you know. Neither clever, or funny, imho. Such are the times. http://www.newyorker.com/cartoons/daily-cartoon Incidentally, how much does the cartoon editor at the New Yorker pull? No less than $120K a year, I bet. Sweet gig.
  3. I've had that cartridge for a long time, it's a legend. Switched to the 20x2, a very nice, revealing cartridge. I got mine at a substantial discount in Hong Kong, from a "well known in small circles" grey market dealer. All of my turntables have been purchased used, all the cartridges - brand new.
  4. THIS IS MY FAVORITE SO FAR!
  5. Yes, you might run into a little bit of a gain matching conundrum with some LOMC cartridges, but I use a HOMC Dynavector. Essentially the same gain as MM cartridges, but I find the sound to be palpably better. Not pretending to be an expert, just my observations. Direct Drive tables are awesome. The pinnacle was late 1970s-mid 1980s. I have a late 1980s Pioneer Reference Series PL-90. What a machine! I love the speed stability, the auto-stop, the button for one-touch lowering and raising of the tonearm, the instant 33/45 switching, the removable tonearm/headshell. As we know the most well-regarded of them all is the aforementioned SL1200. There are so many of them available used, for very reasonable amounts. Just check out your local CL. As you might know, Technics is starting to mass-market the newly re-engineered latest version of the SL-1200 in the summer of this year. I think MSRP would be around $1700 , complete with a tonearm. Initial reviews are very-very favorable. On the more affordable front you got Pioneer PLX-1000 and PLX-500, marketed for DJs, but from what I've read, are excellent for vinyl lovers also... Well under $1,000 incl. a decent cartridge.
  6. rostasi, I'm curious how much a new head unit would cost to retrofit in your old Prius. Something that'll allow BT and USB connections. Could really transform the way you do things.
  7. Cool! I've never seen this one before. Nor heard of Sam Lazar... Space Jazz, a Sonic Sci-Fi Opera by L. Ron Hubbard, Featuring Chick Corea
  8. Bundle, that's the way to go. If you buy several sets and have them shipped together, the shipping costs per set quickly diminish.
  9. After almost 2 decades in "sorta high-end" turntable music, I'm never going back to a belt-driven turntable. Direct drive is where it's at for me. And no more Moving Magnet cartridges. Only Moving Coil for this lp lover.
  10. Years ago I had one of those gizmos, a wireless fm transmitter where I'd pug my discman, and use a vacant fm frequency to reproduce the sound. It wasn't very good. I imagine that your mode isn't that much better. Have you thought about purchasing a new, modern head unit that would allow Bluetooth connection for your phone, along with a usb plug? The convenience of not schlepping cds to the car, and futzing around with stuff is out of the ballpark when using the BT for audio. If you are really into having just about everything available out there, there's the Amazon Unlimited music streaming service, which costs around $5-$10/mo., I think. You get access to millions of songs, hundreds of thousands of albums, any time you want , in the car, at the office, or by your pool. I might sign up down the road, but at this juncture I'm mostly all set with what's available for free with the Amazon Prime. They got like 5 or 6 Horace Parlan albums there, streaming for no charge. Takes seconds to hook up the phone to BT, and off you go. To drop a cd into ITunes on your phone takes about 5 minutes, nothing terrible. But I don't even bother with that, just shuffle stuff on my Amazon Music app, it's more fun imho.
  11. Technics SL1200 with a good mc cartridge, like a Dynavector, or another big name brand.
  12. 55,055 posts. Congratulations!
  13. This should've been Jsngry's thread. Not fair.
  14. Cover by Storm Thorgerson.
  15. Zodiac- the Soviet answer to Jean Michel Jarre, Space, Mike Oldfield, etc. Not bad. Sounds kinda dated now that I played it for the first time in 30+ years. Duuh...
  16. Thanks, guys. Never heard of them.
