  1. Streaming is also formatted, right? And streaming isn't always free. That's as much as I know 'bout it. You make cds for restaurant play? You bring them with you when you go out to eat, or they already know what to play when you walk through the door?
  2. I play soccer with a bunch of people in their 20s. One is a musician who just released an album. When I asked to buy his cd, him and a couple of others looked at me like I was asking to buy a wax cylinder. I then asked if any of them buy music on cds. CDs?! WTF?!
  3. Stan Kenton?
  4. Lulz
  5. I maybe wrong, but I don't think it's a painting. Looks like a print. Not Mingus, but also starts with an M.
  6. Rollins is decent. Unlike this beauty. You should see what's inside the gatefold jacket.
  7. Maybe it's master tape, not masking tape... Has anyone tried playing it? Could be some bitchin' boogie-woogie. Love the human sax player! The shading of her dress evokes Hokusai. Now that's art.Great find! Guess who this is.
  8. How can you tell?
  9. Wow, that's a QUAD ESL speaker in the background. I bet the amp is a LEAK TL.

  11. I'm not good at deciphering cubism, but I see a guy in a tux playing banjo. It doesn't end well.
  12. http://wfmu.org/recfair/ April 28-30. I shall attend. Mark that date in your calendars, friends. How about an organissimo forumites hangout, perhaps a meal and a gig?

  14. That's not fair, Bill. DSM pales in comparison to this http://www.artisticnetwork.net/arts/964/jazzed_-_the_original_jazz_art_of_irene_nowicki.html
  15. ...will be touring the US this Spring. http://jeanmicheljarre.com/tour I'm definitely interested in going to see him in Boston. Oxygene, Les Chants Magnetiques are very enjoyable.
  16. Not to mention that it qualifies for the Moderne Furniture Covers thread.
  17. Yep, that's a lovely representation of Bird. Now, The Blue Dog...probably made millions for the artist. Not to be outdone by the cool cats; and mice! Mice even wear tiny dark glasses. How cute! And jazzy. EL GATO GOMEZ PAINTING RETRO 1950S JAZZ CAT MID CENTURY MODERN BEATNIK BONGO MOD These poodles sure know how to jazz-party. Doggy Style, baby! Complete harmony here, white and black poodles having fun together, even one apricot poodle, whatever he represents.
  18. A relative of the late saxophonist John Stubblefield?
  19. Would I hang it up on a wall in my house? That's one of my criteria for bad art. Absolutely no snobbery involved, just humor. Painting by Artist Steve Lang featuring FRANK SINATRA, DEAN MARTIN, SAMMY DAVIS JR and MARILYN MONROE, (l to r),

  22. From Wiki: Monk had disappeared from the scene by the mid 1970s and made only a small number of appearances during the final decade of his life. His last studio recordings as a leader were made in November 1971 for the English Black Lion label, near the end of a worldwide tour with the Giants of Jazz, a group which included Gillespie, Kai Winding, Sonny Stitt, Al McKibbon and Blakey. Bassist McKibbon, who had known Monk for over twenty years and played on his final tour in 1971, later said: "On that tour Monk said about two words. I mean literally maybe two words. He didn't say 'Good morning', 'Goodnight', 'What time?' Nothing. Why, I don't know. He sent word back after the tour was over that the reason he couldn't communicate or play was that Art Blakey and I were so ugly."[18]
  23. I'll take the Larry Young.
