  1. Very nice to hear all that. I guess they like your Blues/R&B sets, too, or you'd get chucked out All over Africa, one seems to hear the same complaints about the modern music. The only exceptions seem to be in Senegambia, Mali and Guinea Conakry, where their classic styles are still in great demand and most of the top singers/bands are still playing in those styles (though of course you get rap all over). Last year, in Paris, I tried some music from Guinea Bissau - I'd never heard any before - but it was indistinguishable from current Ghanaian pop, or anything else. See? It's not just Eric Alexander who doesn't sound like anyone in particular MG
  2. Yes, I prefer cheap French lager, like Stella Artois, to Bud. MG

  9. Excellent. Someone else who has attained enlightenment. I don't think I've attained enlightenment; I like piano trios though, and 3 Sounds is a good one. But so are those of Wynton Kelly Red Garland Junior Mance Phineas Newborn McCoy Tyner Ray Bryant Les McCann Sonny Clark Ahmad Jamal King Fleming Ramsey Lewis Horace Parlan John Wright Bobby Timmons Norman Simmons Hampton Hawes And they ain't AT ALL the same old thing; not a one of them. MG
  10. Do you mean 'Midnight rider'? Nice vinyl afto Willis Jackson - In the alley - Muse Charles Earland - Soul story - Prestige Les McCann - Pretty lady - Pacific Jazz (King Jap) George Benson - Breezin' - WB (UK) - Not played this for quite a while. The killer track is still 'This masquerade'; not that the rest is bad, but 'This masquerade' is the only one that DEMANDS that you listen. MG
  11. That's what I used to use - a quick wipe on my trousers. MG

  19. It didn't happen. But Larry's account of what Morgernstern said must be nineteenth hand. no genuine working man would hold an open milk carton he was drinking out of with dirt on his hands WHAT!?!?! I know Americans are unnecessarily fetishist about germs and stuff, and I admit to never having been a ditch digger, but I was a maintenance man in a laundry and there aren't many filthier places than them... MG
  20. Fabulous photo! MG Is that an actual album cover? Is it out on CD? I feel sure I remember an LP sleeve of that, back in the day, but, looking around the web briefly, I can't find that it actually is a sleeve. Bright Moments; what's the album title? MG
