  1. Yup! Skip the Kudus, go for the Milestones next. Nary a dud. (Oh, except for the one with Richie Cole.) MG Bossa International (if that is the one you are referring to) is notable as the only live CD release featuring Emily Remler. It's not a dud. It is from Hank's point of view. He should have taken his baritone sax instead. MG
  2. Cor! Did you have to put your pocket money in it to listen? Savvy parents who like quiet Saturdays buy their kids a Seeburg jukebox. Set the price yourself! Alternative supply of Dick Haymes recordings available on request. MG
  3. Can't find a pic of my first one, which was an HMV semi-portable table model, 1958 vintage. Semi-portable because it was bloody heavy! That lasted five years and fell apart, through being ported about too much, so I got a second hand Dansette, as illustrated by Bill. I bought it from Anne Nightingale, later a well-known Radio 1 DJ. 6. Ah, I didn't know "Blowin' in the wind" had come out on a Japanese MVCJ. MG
  7. http://www.rockabilly.nl/references/messages/piltdown_men.htm Less well known in the US than in Britain, where the band had 3 top 20 hits in the early 60s. I still have 3 of their 45s. Amazing to keep them, when so much other R&R/R&B/Soul/Funk got ditched in the late sixties. MG

  9. Very interesting article. I hope Sheila Earland gets to read it. She is, I think, sitting on at least 19 albums Charles made and sold on K7 at gigs. MG
  10. Yes it is! Thanks for the reminder. Will get mine out for a go round later. MG

  12. Ah, I see you've been listening to "Rough house blues". What do you think of it? MG
  13. These are Lou's Argo/Cadet LPs 1 Signifyin' 2 Possum head 3 Coleslaw 4 Rough house blues 5 Musty Rusty 6 Fried buzzard 7 Blowing in the wind 8 At his best 1 and 2 feature BJP and were recently reissued in Europe on the Groove Hut label (Andorra) - a twofer. 5 and 8 feature Billy Gardner and were recently reissued in Europe on the Jazz Beat label (Andorra again) - a twofer. 4 was issued on CD in Japan by Universal Victor (now out of print) 6 was issued on CD in the US by MCA (now out of print) 3 and 7 feature the One and Only Herman Foster and I reckon it's a good bet that the Andorrans will come out with a twofer of these before too long. 4, despite Oliver Nelson arrangements, is the one I find least interesting. 6 is a BMF. "And making his first apperance in the United Sataes of America, from New Orleans, Louisiana, Leo Morris!" (Well, they're all great albums except 4.) As far as I know, no unreleased tracks were recorded for Chess. The total running time is not long, but at four and three quarter hours would need four CDs to cover. And who would do it considering the Andorrans are making a decent job of it? Are these pirate issues? Dunno. Honestly, don't care. Universal clearly doesn't care about its stack of Soul Jazz albums and I do. MG
  14. See what a careless word can do, Bertrand? Like Bertrand, I didn't know that you didn't know. Young doesn't solo and is pretty subdued. But the four tracks without Young/Cox are the least interesting on the album. So there was clearly something going on that I can't notice. MG

  16. Probably, if not possibly. MG
  17. This evening Inez Andrews - Tihis is not the first time I'e been last - Songbird (ABC) George Benson - Weekend in LA - WB UK there was a thread about the order of sides on double LPs and I think it was said that UK twofers were generally 1/2 and 3/4. The Benson is 1/4 & 2/3. MG
  18. I'm a Lincoln Mayorga fan and there's a CD of the original Piltdown men performances MG
