  1. Yes - I said between tongue & tail - but of course the liver is between tongue & tail. MG
  2. Ray Anthony had a top twenty hit in the US with Peter Gunn, but I don't think it was a hit over here. Nor Mancini's version. Duane Eddy got to #4 in the UK pop charts with it - a classic cut. But it wasn't released as a single in the US, just an album track. It wasn't much like Twilight Zone Jazz, though MG
  3. Thought I'd jog my memory a bit with some Googling - it was Elmer Bernstein. And the UK 45 is on ebay for two quid, here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELMER-BERNSTEIN-STACCATO'S-THEME%2FJAZZ-AT-WALDO'S-1959_W0QQitemZ360219458053QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq20091221?IMSfp=TL0912211610002r8104 MG
  4. What immediately struck me on reading your first post was "Staccato's theme" - I forget who did it. It was the theme - and there was a lot of jazz in the series - for John Cassavetes' TV detective series. The theme was a pop hit here in '59. It was on Capitol. MG
  5. Just tried it and I'm getting the same problem. I don't geddit. MG

  10. Absolutely - to which I would add John Wright's Nice 'n tasty - Prestige (reissued in Japan several years ago - but maybe Hiroshi can get it; he got one for me a couple of years back) Mr Soul - Prestige (OJC) (well, this one's gone, too, but shouldn't be too hard to find) Wright has a beautiful touch. MG Definitely knobs on to that one! A terrific version of "After hours" in there. Also, three albums Phieas made for Contemporary with Ray Brown and Elvin Jones. Please send me someone to love (Feb 1969) Harlem blues (Feb 1969) Back home (Sep 1976) These three and "We 3" are by a long chalk my favourite Phieas albums. All were available on OJC but have probably gone by now. MG Don't ask where the ns went MG
  11. And for my next trick.... Tomorrow, we're going to try to spend the itunes voucher my daughter gave her. I managed to find one track - "La bamba" by Ritchie Valens and was surprised to find the identical record on sale at itunes (UK) for two or three different prices. Is this usual? MG
  12. OK, well I got my wife an ipod shuffle for Christmas and have spent the last two days loading stuff (including a very small amount of real music) into it. About 160 tracks so far, copied from CDs, or downloaded from itunes 3 years ago, to burn a couple of CDs she could use in the car. I did what Brad suggested, so I would know where I was with it. I got confused about what had and what hadn't been loaded into the ipod, so I opened up a new playlist called "nu stuff" and pulled the most recent tracks. Then I'd sync that playlist to the ipod, delete the tunes from the playlist, then copy another bunch of tracks from another bunch of CDs (usually only 1 track per CD - this system was really MADE for my wife), then go into the recent acquisitions thing, shove that lot into the playlist and do it all again. Not sure I included everything she wanted, though. But I couldn't work out how you get a list of the songs on the shuffle, so you know if there's something that's slipped through the cracks. Anyone got any ideas on this? MG
  13. As far as I know, Eastbound is still owned by a firm called Nine. That firm also owned the Sound of Gospel label and appears now also to own Spring. I think Bernie Mendelsson is/was the man behind it (I think he also owned Watts Club Mozambique). He was certainly the producer on all the Sound of Gospel LPs I have. This is a good, but not great session. I have the double LP and the BGP compilation on which three other cuts from the gig were issued - "Lester leaps in", "Blow top blues" (vocal by Etta Jones) and "When I'm kissing my love" (vocal by Spanky Wilson). The real standout track is "Kittitian carnival" on which Wild Bill Moore blows Houston Person right into Canada! MG

  18. Serious advice please. I have an original (with ear in wax). And quite a few others. What's my best bet folks? I don't play these much. I have them on McM CDs or TOCJs or whatever. Is it practical to run an auction here? I don't want to do e-bay. What about payment? I have a paypal account that I use to make payments. What happens if someone sends me money? MG

  21. I think I have a couple of LPs with Dobells 45/- stickers on their top RH corners £10-ish this decade probably works out to 1/2d back in the old days ! Depends - at just over 2 quid a pint of beer (last year), you could have about five for a tenner. Back in the day, five pints would have cost about 5/5d. But a tenner now only gets you 1 LP (new in the shops) and an LP cost 32/- back in the day. There is no certainty at all in economics MG
  22. Jack Vance Stanley Dance Junior Mance
  23. Fats Domino - Legendary masters - Imperial (UA UK) Now on to disc 2 (gives strength for the washing up soon ) MG
