  1. I think it's more that he hates his brother, who is or was very much a part of the establishment. He was an Ambassador or something, I think, and got a K for that. Humph is primarily anti-establishment, I think. MG
  2. That's one I always meant to get round to, but didn't. I didn't know Muse LPs came out in mono. MG
  3. "Braith and friends" and "Boptronics" aren't very much like that one. MG
  4. Chan Canasta Willie Bridges Donald Rumsfeld
  5. Thnking about it overnight, the one LD Cadet that is less effective than the others is "Rough house blues", arranged by Oliver Nelson. Not that it's bad but, as with "Lush life" Lou's style doesn't seem to click very well with band arrangements. MG
  6. I'm surprised no one's mentioned "The third man". That must have been the first film noir I ever saw and I can still feel it, though I haven't seen it since the fifties. Another I liked a lot, though it was in colour, was "Sait on jamais", aka "No sun in Venice" - for which the MJQ did the music. That had terrific atmosphere. MG
  7. Looking around CDBaby, this evening, I found this geezer He's got his own site http://www.simpsonsound.com/ And it's his 35th birthday today! Anyone heard him? Think I'll get this album. MG
  8. I'd disagree with you there. I really enjoy ALL the Cadets. MG
  9. Hey, is this book coming out soon? Where can you see the cover? MG
  10. Are you sure this isn't properly licensed? Where can one find out this stuff? It's important. MG Is there anyone who has asserted that these labels license any of the material they reissue? Is there any reason to assume they've made an exception here? Jazz Beat is a new label. Do you know that it's owned by the same people who don't properly license their material? MG
  11. WTF??? Who the Hell is that, Paul Whiteman? Probably - Whiteman recorded a Cole Porter song of that name. Henry Burr, who looks like this recorded the more famous traditional Welsh song ("Ar hyd y nos"). I don't think it's him. MG
  12. I think this is the big worry over this. Ditching experienced staff who know what is there and stuffing the material in an archive is really not the action of a business that is keen on exploiting its assets to the full. The only action that runs counter to what you've suggested is the issue of the Johnnie Taylor. MG
  13. Are you sure this isn't properly licensed? Where can one find out this stuff? It's important. MG
  14. There's also this one MG
  15. Looking at the Amazon UK site, it seems this isn't coming out until 9 July. MG
  16. Just seen at Dusty Groove that this is out. This is a must for all grease fans! These are not just great Cadet albums; they're great Lou Donaldson albums. Billy Gardner, Bill Hardman, Grant Green, Calvin Newborn, Ben Dixon, Grady Tate. Pooh gosh! Gotta get this soon! MG
  17. Bennie Green Select - all 3 discs (successively) MG
  18. "It's lonesome away from your kindred and all By the campfire at night, where the wild dingoes call. But there's nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear, Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer." Slim Dusty, 1959 hit single. Seems to be an Australian problem... MG
  19. I second all the votes for 32Jazz sleeves and the Legends of Acid Jazz series. In addition, the Blue Note dots double LPs of the late 70s were pretty grotty. This one is truly horrid! MG
  20. He's also the guy who produced Charles Earland's "Funk fantastique" and Groove Holmes' "On Basie's bandstand", which gives him great street cred in a totally different area! MG
  21. It seems to be called an alto stick. Maybe someone could do something with it... MG
  22. I always think Dex is stealing one of those bikes MG
  23. Damn! I was going to post that! Well, here's a WIllis Jackson album with Von Freeman on the cover. MG
  24. I reckon I have a few, but it's late. I'll look some out tomorrow. MG
