Here's hoping for as complete a box as possible. I am not excited about buying excerpts, only to have a larger set issues a year later.

If anyone is interested, I have some digitized live broadcasts of Ken Peplowski that are not commercially issued: Hotel Four Queens, Las Vegas 8/2/1993 Newport Jazz Festival with Evan Christopher and Anat Cohen 8/4/2012

Ted Rosenthal announced Ken’s passing on FB. He will be missed, he had a brilliant career and he was a funny giy.

Too bad it can't be recorded...

I know that there are other jazz journalists and broadcasters here. I talked to to bassist Harvie S last week for publication in the April issue of The New York City Jazz Record. This afternoon I talked to the founder of the Turtle Island Quartet, violinist/composer David Balakrishnan. This interview will be edited for broadcast on my Timeless Jazz show, likely to air on February 15th, prior to the band's February 24th concert here. Both Zoom chats were lots of fun!

Hopefully it would be better than Crouch's typically arrogant, self-promoting liner notes. -
V-Disc Big Band Set Is Coming!!!
Ken Dryden replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I did and no record of it existed, though I am positive that I submitted it. Evidently an internet outage happened, as I never was charged on my credit cards (I checked them all) nor did I find a confirmation from Mosaic. Scott is taking care of me, so all is well. -

Still crickets from Mosaic about my copy. -
He was a masterful artist, he will be missed.

I tried watching the first episode of Schitt's Creek and I'm not sure that I made it through all the way. It just didn't make me laugh,

Marty Grosz was a regular at the Atlanta Jazz Party for years, though he would get on the host's nerves by telling too many jokes at the beginning of sets he led, a problem when individual sets were maybe 25-30 minutes before the lineup changed. I guess Marty is retired now, he must be in his nineties.

My review should be on line at hothousejazz.com in the next day or two, unless it ends up in the digital paid subscriber edition.

No shipping notice from UPS or Mosaic's expediter. -
A bit of sleet, but we got out of our hilly subdivision outside Chattanooga yesterday without an issue. When a real storm hits, this area can be shut down for several days.

I digitized the Joanne Grauer show awhile back and can send you the files. It is excellent and it didn't need pitch correction. Let me know your email and I can send the music, I have to go downstairs to find the CDR. -

What Live Concerts and Studio Sessions Have You Witnessed In Person?

I talked to HutchFan yesterday and he reminded me about this release. I had just interviewed David Liebman and when he learned where I lived, he invited me to hear him in Nashville. When HutchFan shared that he was playing in Duluth, just northeast of Atlanta, I decided that concert would be less hassle to attend. I have no idea what the local venue did to promote the concert, but the posters billed the group as Dave Liebman & the Expansions. The turnout was minimal, maybe `15 to 20 at most. Yet David Liebman liked the sound he heard during the soundcheck and asked the board op to record it. Then he called for the band's first ever all electric set. Most of the concert appears on CD 2 of this Whaling City Sound set. HutchFan was there as well with a friend. The applause at the end of CD 2 had to have been dubbed from another show, though our small audience did there best to give the group a loud round of applause. -

We made a donation in support of Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz and attended this live taping of the only television edition of the program at SCETV Studios. We received a VHS copy of it, a limited edition of 50. "In Your Own Sweet Way" was a second take necessitated by some problem at the board during take one, which was complete. Dave Brubeck said, "I liked the first one better" during the set. The duo piano CD with Mark Shane and Johnny Varro was recorded live at the 1998 and 1999 Atlanta Jazz Party. -

Regarding Boby Wilber & Kenny Davern: Summit Reunion in Atlanta: If the engineer did record the cussing between takes, I believe that it was erased or edited out of the recording. We never did figure out what it was that provoked Davern's outburst and I can't ask producer Phil Carroll, as he died in 2008. I feel it might be taken the wrong way if I asked his son. -

I was present for both sets one of the two nights, I think it was May 3 2019. Again, I was present for whichever trio tracks that are included from both sets on May 3, 2019, featuring Buster Williams and Matt Wilson
