I ran across a vintage Pepsodent ad with agents 86 & 13 in a grocery store. What a hoot!

Social Media Shortens Your Life
Ken Dryden replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I dumped LinkedIN years ago and it is surprising how much info was spread to other sites. It was beyond useless, like a FB for business. -
Glad I got to see her in person at the Jazz Standard before the back injury that laid her low.

I’ve seen him in person and enjoyed his CDs. Michael Dease counts him as an early mentor.

Losing Weight - Ozempic - Diet/Exercise?
Ken Dryden replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Investing a meeting with a dietician can prove very illuminating. In early 2018, I was around 241 lbs. I started counting carbs by meal, 45 to 60. Eating more fiber with meals helps slow down glucose absorption. I dropped sugary drinks, pasta, white bread, fried foods, most desserts (when I do enjoy them, it is after lunch rather than dinner) and got all the way down to 192 lbs. within a few months. I was hungry all the time, so I now try to stay in the 210-215 weight range at 6'2". -
I loved the bonus track in the boxed set “I Got It From Alice.”

It would be nice to know the show dates for Duke Ellington to see how much has already been issued commercially by other labels.

Their website was maddening to search but I found a few gems. I hope they enjoy retirement. Small mail order businesses are closing a lot these days.

I talked to Alan Broadbent today and will edit it to fit into a Timeless Jazz broadcast some time in late August. If you anywhere close to Chattanooga (Nashville, Huntsville, Knoxville, Atlanta, Birmingham), please make plans to attend his solo piano concert in Chattanooga. It is a fundraiser for WUTC-FM and ticket proceeds benefit the station.

Cootie Williams was one of the first Duke Ellington soloists who I heard on my father's Duke Ellington records. This should be a fascinating book.

No software, I just complied it. I will have to check it out. -
R.I.P. I have three CDs on Blue Jack Jazz, one of which he is a part of the American-Dutch All Stars, but he is listed at the top. The CDs you referred to being on Origin are on Organic Music. I never got to see him perform, but he was a delightful interview for Hot House a few years back prior to coming back to the U.S. for a visit and brief tour.

Pacific Jazz Records

I wonder if a Pacific Jazz discography would include all of the butchered, edited repressings of Jim Hall's Jazz Guitar?- 40 replies

I was chatting with Alan Broadbent this morning to go over preparations for his upcoming September concert here. After I told him about witnessing Marian McPartland's disgust with an unsuitable piano provided for a trio concert, he shared this gem: The late pianist Frank Strazzeri was also a skilled piano tuner. He arrived for a gig and found an untuned piano awaiting him. Frank tuned the piano, played the gig, then detuned it afterwards.

I had a DVD set of Young People’s Concerts but sold it without opening it. Hope this broadcast wasn’t included.

Great price and find!

I loved how Carl Palmer wore glasses as a disguise. It would be nice to see all of Oscar Peterson’s CBC TV shows from the 1970s. I videotaped a few from USA in the 1980s, but the repeat broadcast at 11 pm ET inevitably inserted a show promo voiceover on top of the final song. I didn’t give a damn about watching Beau Bridges in “United States,” coming up next.

Unless a 78 rpm record is rare and has never been reissued on LP or CD, most collectors aren’t seeking them. Few turntables have the proper speed or stylus to play them as well. I’ve been given some over the years and ended up donating them.
