  1. I own the Farlow and Basie Complete Clef/Verve Universal sets, and they are every bit like the Mosaics I receive direct from Mosaic (except for the numbering of course). IMHO, they look and feel just like the direct Mosaics, and I have no regrets. I also had an extra copy of the Basie Clef/Verve Mosaic set that I had picked up cheap from Amazon UK when they had them on sale awhile ago. I sold that copy on ebay, clearly indicating that it was the retail Universal version, for a very nice price. I doubt I would have gotten more for it if it had been a numbered copy from Mosaic. Sure, to some collectors, it would matter. But imo, to most people, it is about the music and the look and feel of a Mosaic set, not the hand numbering.
  2. There are three Borders near here, and I don't think any of them stocked all of the RVGs, though one stocked a few and another stocked a few. The Borders around here has definitely been slimming down the jazz selection, although one of the three seems to have become a dumping ground for discs ordered long ago that were never sold, which is nice because when I browse through there I sometimes find interesting stuff. I was at my local Borders today in NYC, and I happened to look for Another Workout, which they did have in stock. Didn't look for the other recent releases.
  3. Jackson hooked me up also. I spoke with him last Friday about my final order that was languishing in no man's land, it shipped the following Monday, and I received it yesterday. And he called me to let me know it was shipping. Finally someone at Concord (Jackson) stepped up to the plate.
  4. I have both of them. I missed out on the Rhino boxset, and considering what the boxset goes for these days, these releases are a great alternative for around $30 total. Mastering sounds good, and the performances are outstanding.
  5. I believe that all Fantasy products are gone from BMG and Your Music. Yup. Been that way for a few months now. Luckily, I had ordered the Rollins Prestige box right before the Concord products disappeared and received it.
  6. I remember reading the same thing somewhere recently that the Montgomery set was going OOP, but I don't remember where or when. But it did get me off the fence and I purchased the Montgomery set recently. I had picked up the Rollins Prestige set from yourmusic when they still had it. And I also picked up the Pepper Galaxy box recently. In case these disappear, I didn't want to be shut out. But who knows what the plan is for these box sets right now.
  7. I have not seen them at my local Tower.
  8. And while you're at it, as long as you may be picking up the albums like 12 X 5, Out of Our Heads, Aftermath, Between the Buttons, etc., you should try to pick up the digipak SACD's. These are also available as redbook remasters in jewel cases, but the SACD's in digipaks (they're not labeled otherwise) are generally very good.
  9. This is probably one of the European sets that aren't directly from Mosaic, and aren't numbered. Still a good deal though! Yes, it's one of the Universal (import) Mosaics. The source really doesn't bother me and it would be hard to pass up on that price. Just from various conversations I've read on various jazz boards, I'm not the only one to pick up the Tal Farlow because it was available at such a low price. If this set pans out to be as good as the first impression I got from listening to samples then this is going to be quite the bargain. The Farlow set is very good. I also picked it up for about $50 from Amazon marketplace. This was my first Farlow as well, and I'd say it's easily worth the $50 and more.
  10. Not waiting for the Coltrane box, but still waiting for my order from 7/21. My anger from earlier in the thread has now turned to resignation. What can you say about a retailer or e-tailer who has not given you an update or shipped the product within a month after you placed your order? Even granting Concord the benefit of the doubt here that they were overwhelmed by the response to this sale, the fact that they didn't (a) anticipate it, (b) move more employees to the wherehouse, © hire temp workers to fill the orders faster, (d) ..., is pretty pathetic. Oh well. Good luck to all.
  11. A couple of years ago was before I'd discovered Zweitausendeins, but I got one from them in March (albeit for $60 rather than $30). but those 30$ ones have not been the LP sized boxed but those flimsy ones not including any booklet Interesting. Glad I recently picked mine up from them then, as it was the full-size retail version of the Coltrane set, for about $60 US. I've also picked up the Dex Gordon Prestige box, Rollins Freelance box, Contemporary Records box, Debut Records box, Complete Stax Vol. 2 box, and MJQ box from them. Great prices and smooth experience for my 2 orders, shipping from Germany to New York.
  12. Good point. I happily give much business to Mosaic and will continue to do so, despite this Concord sale. But the fact of the matter is, this Concord sale provides the possibility of getting some amazing music at amazing prices. This assumes of course, that Concord actually ships the orders. Sorry about the guys who might have missed out on the Coltrane box. If what someone posted earlier is true, that those who ordered the box along with other titles were getting priority over those who ordered the box alone, that is BS. That's a totally arbitrary decision. If they had told you that up front, you probably would have thrown in a few titles. Still no word on my 7/21 order. Approaching one month. Hope you guys get your first orders soon (or ever...).
  13. No such problems on my K2 that I picked up from yourmusic about a year and a half ago. Sounds fine straight through Moritat.
  14. Fretting over your 3rd order when many are still waiting for their 1st order probably isn't going to go over very well here. I was expecting a smiley or a wink after your post, but I guess you are serious. Briefly, so as not to belabor the point, I made it very clear I can wait for my order. But at any point during this process, I or anyone else may be waiting for a second, or third, or tenth order while someone else is waiting for their first order. Does that mean we can't be angry that we haven't received our orders because someone hasn't received their first? In your view, when am I allowed to be angry with the wait? Whether it was my first or tenth order, I spent my hard-earned money on an order from July 21st. It is now August 11th and it hasn't shipped yet. But again, I'll live, and I'll wait. We know they're overwhelmed. No biggie. Sorry, I hope I don't come off harshly, but I just felt the need to respond. Back on topic.
  15. You guys may have a while longer to wait. I actually called yesterday also, and got the same response. But I am right around order # 6000 from 7/21. This is my third order, and I've received the first two, so I can wait. But reading in the other thread that people with later order numbers from later dates than me have had their orders shipped is ticking me off. And forget about 5-10 business days, or 10-12 business days to ship. I'm at about 15 business days now and there's no sign my 3rd order will be shipped soon. Concord is mucking this sale up nicely, but it's hard to complain too hard given the prices and the product.
  16. I just got this interesting e-mail from Tower regarding a special order item I had ordered. "Dear Jeffrey, Due to some major changes currently happening at Tower.com/Tower Records, including the sale of the company, the backordered item(s) on your order# xxxxx have been cancelled as they are temporarily unavailable at this time." Strange they would mention the sale of a company in a cancellation e-mail. Be that as it may, my local Tower is still up and running, well stocked and well staffed. I don't see any major changes happening anytime soon.
  17. Interesting...my order number is 5900 something and I ordered 3 days before you and nothing yet. Still havent opened all my CD's from the first shipment though Yeah, that is strange. My third order was around order #6000 from 7/21, and I have received no shipping notice yet. Granted, even though there are some good titles in this order, as my third order, it is not my cream of the crop so I can wait a bit. But what the heck are they doing over there? Fantastic sale, but this order processing by Concord is just horrendous. On a more positive note, I am loving many of my new haul. Hawes, Baker, Dolphy, Curson, Garland, Guaraldi, etc. etc. Lots of great music I am hearing for the first time and it's a treat.
  18. Somewhat symbolic of what is both good and bad with B&M record stores like Tower--I recently decided to stock up on more Mingus records from the Oh Yeah, Blues & Roots, era. So I started looking at some individual albums, then was browsing on Rhino's website and noticed they had the Passions of a Man boxset that covered every album I was planning on buying. Perfect. So I stop into Tower yesterday (the Lincoln Center one I referred to earlier) where they have a decent collection of Jazz boxsets, and sure enough they have the Mingus boxset. Of course, I had researched the price before going to Tower, and deepdiscount CD had it for about $67, and Overstock had it for about $50 with coupon. So I knew the ballpark. Well, Tower had it for full retail, $79.98. Add tax to that and it would have cost me about $86. I'm all for instant gratification, but that's a $36 difference with Overstock. Needless to say, I didn't buy it at Tower. Other than their occasional sales like the recent Impulse sale, I love browsing, but with yourmusic and other e-tailers around, Tower is just too overpriced generally.
  19. Yes, and ones that haven't closed have slashed their jazz sections down to microscopic size. Sad. Fortunately, not true for my local Tower on the upper west side of Manhattan near Lincoln Center. It has a huge jazz section downstairs with a big selection. They converted the whole downstairs into jazz, blues, oldies, soul, etc. I spend a lot of time in there.
  20. I totally agree with your assessment of the Parlan boxset. I've been listening to it alot lately. As I posted in the 10% off thread, this boxset is killer. It doesn't seem to get the kudos some of the other boxes get, although I really have never seen a bad thing said about it. The trios on the first couple of discs are outstanding. And the boxset really picks up when the Turrentines and Booker Ervin get involved. Definitely one to pick up before it disappears.
  21. I'm on the East Coast. For six days, "departed Sacramento" was the last entry. Only today (expected delivery date) did it change to "on truck for shipment". Unfortunately, it now shows a "Delivery Exception (customer not available or business closed)", neither of which was true. Sorry to hear that. My first package of about 30 CD's and the Evans box arrived yesterday. My second package of about 10 arrived today. Orders placed on 7/13 and 7/14 respectively. Both packages were also listed in Sacramento for several days until they were on the truck for delivery. That first package I got was quite a treat. All of those K2's together in one box was a beautiful sight.
  22. I own the Stitt set, and love it. I'd also heartily recommend the Horace Parlan set with this discount. It's really a wonderful set, and through the first couple of CD's I have listened to, I am yet to hear a bad tune. His trio work, his work with the Turrentine's, etc., is all top notch.
  23. That's strange. My 2 orders, 56XX (7/13) and 57XX (7/14), have received shipping notices. The first one yesterday and the second one today. The first one had free shipping and the second one did not. You should definitely call them again, as your order should have shipped by now. Also, for some reason, my shipping notices list a different order number than the original order numbers. The shipping notices list order numbers of 12XXX. Anyway, glad mine are on the way at least.
  24. Finally received my shipping notice with fedex tracking # for my first big order from 7/13. So they are getting there, but they are moving pretty slowly. They're still shipping orders from the first week of the sale, so orders from last week and on could be quite a while before they ship.
  25. Still no shipping for me. Orders placed 7/13 and 7/14. I just called and they gave the same story about being sent to the warehouse to ready for shipment. It's been 11 days since my first order was placed, and my patience has worn out. I'd be ticked anyway, as any online order should have shipped by now. But what gets my goat is that later in the day after I placed my order on the 13th, I wanted to add about 10 titles that I had missed onto the big order, they wouldn't let me b/c my order was "being prepared for shipment". Obviously my tiered prices started over again at that point, and their position was BS as they were merely starting an interminable 11+ day shipping process. Anyway, it's really time for these early orders to start shipping. Rant over.
