UP TO... 50% off. Worth reading the fine print.

Spared you having to cajole the thing down to your PC, thusly.

I fear nothing short of dates from Miles Davis' euro-tour in late '67 (and the like), would even remotely sell enough to be considered worth the investment (purely from an economic perspective). AND YET, look at all the wild and crazy shit that continues to become available from Dusty Groove. How does THAT stuff get reissued, while virtually none of the suggestions already proposed make sense? I could cite 50 discs currently available on the Dusty site (maybe more like 100), that seem no more commercially viable than the suggestions here. Perplexed.

A genuine an respectful question, Chuck. Are there any titles you can think of, that both fit JLH's criteria, and make economic sense?

Album Covers That Make You Say "Uhhhh...."

How silly. Clearly it should read... Nat King Cole At THEIR best -
FWIW, whatever one I have is in a Jewel Box (not a digipak).

The all "Hello Kitty" thread...
Rooster_Ties replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
from Mother Jones: What's Next, Hello Kitty Chainsaws? -
All my discs are all 1,000 miles away from me at the moment, so I'm not entirely sure (except to say it's definitely NOT the one with "Mountain in the Clouds"). From the previous thread I linked to, I believe it is the one that has the following track-listing (so if there's only two 'Collectables' versions, then the "Inner Space" one appears to be the one). 1 Straight Up and Down Corea 12:32 2 This Is New Gershwin, Weill 7:38 3 Tones for Joan's Bones Corea 6:05 4 Litha Corea 13:29 5 Inner Space Corea 9:20 6 Windows Corea 8:45 7 Guijira Corea 12:18 8 Trio for Flute, Bassoon and Piano Corea 5:07 THIS POST kinda confirms that the 8-track version is the most complete, and the Japanese issue of it has great sound -- and it would appear that the 8-track "Collectables" edition is the same mastering. The SQ on the "Mountain in the Clouds" one is kinda sad (to put it politely), as best I recall (had it years ago too).

Joe Henderson Trio at the Village Vanguard
Rooster_Ties replied to Durium's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Perhaps the same three that are supposedly unique to this CD?? JOE HENDERSON "In 'n' around" CD 2005 Track list: 1. VISA (CHARLIE PARKER) 2. ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE (JEROME KERN) 3. RUE CHAPTAL/ROYAL ROOST (TENOR MADNESS) (KENNY DORHAM-KENNY CLARKE) Recorded live at “Villa Imperiale”, Genova (ITALY) on 9 july 1987 4. RECORDA ME (played by BOBBY WATSON solo) 5. THE KICKER (played by FABIO MORGERA group) 6. INNER URGE (played by JERRY BERGONZI quartet) 7. AFRO-CENTRIC (played by VICTOR LEWIS group) 8. OUT OF THE NIGHT (played by VITO DI MODUGNO/FABRIZIO BOSSO group) 9. MODE FOR JOE (played by SALVATORE TRANCHINI quintet with FRANCO AMBROSETTI and JERRY BERGONZI) -
Previous discussion, where Chuck suggested the Collectables version was perhaps the same mastering as the previous East West Japan HDCD. I haven't heard both, but to my ears, the Collectables version sounds really good too me -- certainly better than some Collectables editions of other sessions.

It's something people will probably pay for... You know, as opposed to say, reading the NYT on-line.

Hint, hint, hint... So whatever became of the "Discovery" series?? Anybody know what Andrew Hill and/or Wes Montgomery recordings were being prepared for release, and is any of that still in the pipeline? FWIW, Freddie's "Without a Song" came out in June '09.

Tyrone Washington -- "Roots" (Perception, 1973) Never been on CD -- a real damn shame, only overshadowed by the fact that '16-Aug-1968' has never been on anything.

Raymond Luxury Yacht?

I read somewhere that you can beat the NY Times print-edition "paywall" too... ..by quickly grabbing a copy at most newsstands, and then (without paying for it), running briskly around the corner and down the block with it.

Heard a live performance of the Ravel piano concerto today (KC Symphony), and had forgotten how good it was -- and thought I'd bring this thread back up.

What to say. From the AP... More obstacles impede crews in Japan nuke crisis I heard that "10 million times normal" figure on the BBC last night as I went to sleep, and thought how dire things had probable become. Without independent verification, how is anyone to know which results are correct?

The Applause CD's I've heard (many years ago) all sounded fairly bad. As best I recall, they were muffled, like 4th generation cassette dubs. Never heard any Applause vinyl.

That sounds like a cruel joke someone someone from Netflix is playing on your friend. Or that your friend is playing on them!
-
Probably right on both counts, but getting the chance to hear that much Michael Ray is the draw for me.

And surprisingly well too, I might add. It was the "New Steps" double LP (on one CD). Good sound (at least I thought so), and really quite decent packaging (with good liners even). I've bought legit reissues that had a lot less effort put into them. I'd happily buy a similar reissue of "Other Voices, Other Blues" (even non-legit, though clearly I'd prefer legit). I was tickled when I saw the "New Steps" disc, and had my hopes up that all the Sun Ra Horo's were finally out on CD. Fun stuff! - hearing Mr. Blount, John Gilmore, and especially Michael Ray(!) in a quartet setting.

Japan Earthquake: Two Weeks Later Photo essay from The Atlantic, well worth a look.

The first one especially (I have it only vinyl, and love it! - never on CD, legit or otherwise) -- but both really (since the only CD issue of the second one is not legit)... Sun Ra Quartet: "Other Voices, Other Blues" (Horo) and "New Steps" (Horo) There's a third Sun Ra 'horo' that's a little less priority (to me), "Unity", but the other two are rare quartet sessions.

Any of these, but (at least for me) especially "Of Human Feelings" (which was out only very briefly on CD in Japan 20+ years ago)... Ornette at 12 (1969) & Crisis (1972) [both on Impulse] Of Human Feelings (1982), Opening the Caravan of Dreams (1985), & Prime Design\Time Design (1986)
