  1. Mad TV Bob Newhart Skit - Mo Collins - Stop it
  2. Maybe I shouldn't have quoted your post, but I most certainly LOLed at your laziness.
  3. It's in a slideshow format, so I don't think anyone actually has had the patience to look at the entire list. (I know I gave up after Arkansas.)
  4. Some lost-quintet footage I'd never seen before... Miles Davis Ronnie Scott's November 2nd 1969 Footage of the band begins about 1-minute into the clip. Multi-camera, interesting stuff.
  5. Another way to browse the same list, with some biographical data on-screen as well... HERE It's also possible a few of the incorrect hyper-links (in the previous URL) might be correctly linked in this one (perhaps).
  6. Well, perhaps I should have said "not as exciting", instead of "not as good".
  7. The digipac has the bonus material, and frankly -- the 2nd album (Daddy Bug) on the Collectibles edition is not very good. (I had the Collectibles edition, and was quite glad when I upgraded to the digipac.)
  8. Another funny bit from the Wiki...
  9. No thread on Newhart is complete without this clip... "Newhart" - Series Finale
  10. He's done a little straight acting as well, on ER for instance (Wikipedia says it was a 3-episode story-arc, for which Newhart won an Emmy!). Kinda cool to see him in a different context. Funny thing I just read from the Wiki on Bob...
  11. Newhart has always been a favorite. Shame, since I was born in '69, that I missed most of his first series. I remember it vaguely, and have seem maybe a dozen episodes in syndication (or more likely TBS) over the years, but what little I've seen, I remember very fondly. Our house usually watched his 2nd series, and I remember it better. Such a great guy, and his timing was impeccable. I have a couple disc compilation of his comedy records, and those one-sided phone conversations are priceless.
  12. I would wildly guess that you probably need to up the minimum amount you would agree to sell the item(s) for, to include enough "overhead" to both cover the difference between the standard shipping costs eBay expects that you'll pay, and your actual shipping costs. AND, don't forget to factor in that eBay will get a cut of that difference too, so up it again by enough to cover eBay's cut.
  13. Yeah, yeah, that's it. (Google image search) Anybody else here think that's what Merritt is playing in the very first clip?? Kinda looks like it to me.
  14. Thank god the Jayhawks made it into the Sweet 16, or else my wife would sink into a week-long depression. Whew!!
  15. Two I've really enjoyed lately. Both very deep recordings, particularly the Mal... John Hicks "Steadfast" (Strata East, 1975) Mal Waldron "On Steinway" (Teichiku, 1972)
  16. Lost, as in truly lost? (like 80+% of silent movies? - as in 'lost to the sands of time'), or 'lost' in the sense of never to be released ever again? If it's the latter, than I'd say pretty close to 40%, and maybe more like 50%. Then again, if more and more opens up via downloading (legit), then perhaps not a whole lot worse than 40% currently, and potentially things could open up and bring that down a bit closer to 30% (but that's a pretty big if).
  17. Today's comic there...
  18. I think I just saw a bass like that here in KC a couple months ago, the guy in Dave Douglas' group. Pretty sure it was plastic (see below) A bass-playing friend of mine in the audience said that was "the kind of bass they all used down in Cuba" (iirc). Spontoon, you were there that night, any memory of what Jeff said that was? Here's the guy (Brad Jones), here's a pic with that bass I was talking about (it doesn't quite show the whole thing, but close)... And this footage is fairly good, of the same instrument...
  19. Interesting read... Written by a Delta pilot on approach to Tokyo during earthquake (Might take 10 or 15 seconds to load if Reddit traffic is high.)
  20. If I'm not yet in Washington DC, I'll be there for sure!! If I was a betting man, I'd say I'll be here through about mid-May, so I'll just hafta wait and see.
  21. I had Point of Departure for 2-3 years back in college in the early 90's (filing it under Dolphy at the time, because it seemed like his voice dominated). Then I bought the big Hill Mosaic (my 3rd ever Mosaic, after Don Cherry (to get my feet wet), and the Jackie McLean). It was a good 3-5 years more before I really started to "get" Hill. "Black Fire", being the first date on the Mosaic, I probably listened to most, and connected with the fastest (didn't hurt that Joe Henderson was/is almost my favorite tenor player). To this day, I generally break out the big Hill box once or twice a year, and listen all the way through top to bottom. I often go a couple months or more without listening to ANY Hill at all -- but when I do, I generally listen to a LOT for a few days or more. What I like most about Hill, is that his music always sounds fresh to me, and still has lots of surprises even after years of repeated spins.
  22. When I recommend a Hill album to someone who's never heard one, that's usually the one I mention. "Black Fire" is the gateway drug.
  23. I wouldn't be surprised to see if they drop it to $10 at some point.
  24. What speed was that? I'm aware of 78, 45, 33 1/3, & 16-ish RPM's (forget if the 16 had a fraction after it), but I've not heard of any other.
