  1. This might have been done before, but here it goes; Which one would it be? Of course you can change your mind later, so feel free to update your choice. For me right now it's the complete Blue Note Bechet box: Some of the most compelling music I ever heard.
  2. Thanks for the update; I got the other Hal Russell, and was very impressed, by both the music and the sonics, so I'll definitely look for the new one when it comes out.
  3. Grachan Moncur III, Charles Tolliver (both of whose Mosaic selects are oop unfortunately..), Don Pullen with or without George Adams, Cecil Taylor ( pre Blue Note), Art Pepper (70's and later), and for something completely different try Gianluigi Trovesi and the Italian Instabile Orchestra.
  4. ... as well as the only seller on French and UK Amazon; I bought mine directly from amazon.fr, but they don't seem to offer it anymore.
  5. No, but if you buy it through the Amazon marketplace it doesn't really matter, you're protected if something goes wrong. And my impression on the bad ratings is that it's usually about improperly graded used items.
  6. I have this particular issue and while I don't remember anything bad about it, I'll give it another listen and let you know my impressions.
  7. I'm hoping for a Fremeaux complete Duke series...
  8. The Italian connection strikes again: http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B00B9YDT68/
  9. Another very impressive reissue from JLH; thank you! When's the next one coming out ?
  10. If this set comes bundled with a mono button, I'm buyin' it.
  11. For some reason amazon.co.uk ships very cheaply to Canada, and with that and the VAT deduction there's always stuff in my shopping cart...
  12. Thanks for the link - tempting but sadly they don't seem to ship out of the US. Such a huge disparity between the cost of the CD and LP versions of this set though. Is the difference worth it for vinyl-hounds? Try amazon.ca, this is where I got mine: http://www.amazon.ca/Complete-Pepper-Ronnie-Scotts-Vinyl/dp/B004AGN9LW/ I didn't go through the whole box yet, but it sounds phenomenal; can't compare because I don't have the cd version.
  13. The Art Pepper at Ronnie Scott's 7 lp box is a relative bargain at $165 from a seller on amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Pepper-Ronnie-Scotts-1980/dp/B004AGN9LW/ I got one from a seller on amazon.ca for a similar price; highly recommended if you're into vinyl.
  14. Sorry for the bad link. It was the VAI 2cd set containing Gieseking's pre-war Debussy recordings; this is the Debussy I would choose if I were to keep only one. Also there is some great Debussy in one of the 2 10-cd Documents set on Benedetti-Michelangeli.
  15. I don't have the hardware (or the software), but if it can sound that good on youtube, I can only imagine what they would sound like in person... How about "Pearl" transfers?
  16. I've been going through this set lately. Great music but imho they overdid the noise reduction; that tenor sax sounds like a bit too much like a kazoo... And that's not the sound on the 78's, as can be easily heard by listening to some Coleman Hawkins 78 transcriptions on youtube. Did any of this material receive the "Pearl" treatment (minimal to no noise reduction) anywhere?
  17. They changed something recently, my latest order was sent through something called Asendia, which if I remember correctly was handed off to Canada Post. There's also online tracking info.
  18. I just missed the Pendulum select as it went out of print, but then discovered emusic has the set; mp3, true, but at about $4 I'm not complaining.
  19. Two of my favourites that I haven't seen mentioned so far: Tolliver live at Loosdrecht George Adams - Don Pullen at the Village Vanguard.
