  1. Make that bluewin - as I said above ... you'll never get a reply writing to anyone @bluwin.ch, doesn't exist.

    ICP Box set

want to send me yours so I can judge myself?
  3. The Pepper Adams in Albany hurts ... I guess this is from the stash of tapes of the guy who organized a series of concerts there and is sharing some of his tapes (usually recorded with mics up on stage) over on dime. This is your old bootlegging, no PD, no "grey", just plain bootleg. Not sure where they got the Webster and Farmer from, if they were on dime I missed them, but hey, you can't take it with you... As for Wes Montgomery, as so often the info is botched - recording dates are way off and the bass players, too: #5-7: 1965-09-24 (Paul Chambers) #1-3: 1965-11-05 (Ron Carter) #4,8,9: 1965-11-12 (Larry Ridley) #10/11: 1965-11-19 (Herman Wright) Bootleggers usually do the "hit & run" business, missing out additional details provided by knowledgeable folks in the comments over on dime. This sucks bigtime. There's an even more botched George Russell set which RLR took form a set compiled by yours truly. Nice enough that I got a "donation" later on: a much better-sounding, longer version with full line-up (my educated guesses were off ... we do our best, don't we?). Anyway, the boot was out before, so there!
  4. Django - yes, good catch! Also: Ida Lupino
  5. one I tried to remember last night, but it was nearly 6 a.m. when I went to sleep ... Kathleen Ferrier: one of the most haunting pieces of music I've ever heard (first encountered it in one of Terence Davies' masterly movies)
  6. one more (last one for tonight): "Deep in a Dream"
  7. speaking of ghosts: (I Don't Stand a) Ghost of Chance (with You), too! Pres!
  8. First thing to come to mind are fragments of Mozart ... stuff from operas, piano concertos ... also Beethoven (violin sonatas: the Kreutzer and No. 10/Op. 96). Hoagy Carmichael as well! Also some of Monk's tunes will definitely make my cut ... "Reflections" comes to mind first, but there are others, "Ruby My Dear", "Crepuscule with Nellie", and of course "Round Midnight". Bud Powell, "Glass Enclosure" Clifford Brown's "Joy Spring" virtually all Tadd Dameron tunes And Strayhorn, too - "UMMG", "Lush Life", Johnny Hodges doing "Blood Count" ... As for standards, some great ones have been mentioned ... allow me to throw in "Stormy Weather". And some Gershwin: "Bidin' My Time", "Nice Work If You Can Get It", "Embraceable You", "How Long Has This Been Going On"... Cole Porter's "My Heart Belongs to Daddy", "Begin the Beguine" ... Raye/DePaul's "You Don't Know What Love is" Victor Young's "Delilah" though with standards looking at just the melody is somewhat missing the point because the genius of the best of them lies in how they melt together melody and words and in how they get to be more than the sum of their parts Did Mozart compose People in Sorrow? Or was that Monteverdi?
  9. Sorry about all the hardship you've been going through, Lon - wish you all the best though, and a great time on your upcoming trip down south!
  10. Well, that they usually don't consist of anything but piano, bass and drums kinda makes them predictable, too. Also they most always start out with the piano playing the theme and the first solo - very predictable, kinda.
  11. Not quite, "The Hill" is a trio (good one!), and there are some among the ones included that are quintets, too, I think?
  12. Bad with the Maslak! The duplicates of albums in earlier boxes were to be expected, but duplicate and omit other things makes no sense. Also weird that the other Lyons/Cyrille duo album is missing. The Murray leaves off five albums of those a search on the CAM site does display (I'm no Murray expert and he recorded a ton of stuff ... but missing are: Children, Interboogieology, the two volumes of Live at Sweet Basil and the duo with Randy Weston). I count 13 Gaslini albums (plus four great volumes of his Intégrale) - another one with omissions.
  13. yep: First heard him on the Bennie Green disc ... not that easy a task to stand one's own next to Gene Ammons, but he does it! r.i.p.
  14. Cool! Might really be a bit too much of a good thing, but I guess I'm in!
  15. Possibly the Motian, since that was included in the Motian box. The Giuffre was in the Giuffre box ... and others have already been duplicated, I think, and the Maslak is the lone one on Black Saint ... who knows. I'd just be happy to see the Maslak included (and would be majorly pissed if the Peacock wasn't).
  16. Jeez...I've got to go listen to some Dick Dale to cleanse my ears after that. Effin' hilarious ... and then that look! Charm of a snake charmer, I guess ...
  17. Red Libanon if you need music to go along, try Hans Dulfer:
  18. As for the contents ... seems Lake and Farmer are clear cases, Lake has six albums and a duo with Borah Bergman, Farmer has three quintets, one Jazztet, one with Fritz Pauer, plus the album with Pieranunzi. But Cyrille has five ... then there are three with Lyons plus more, so ...? Bley has six as a leader, three as a co-leader (w/Motian, Maslak, Peacock) and one with the Giuffre/Bley/Swallow Trio - which one will be missing? Let's hope not the Maslak, I'd like to hear that one for sure! Murray has at least a dozen or so left, if you count off the octet albums ... there are seven trio/quartet/quintet albums, that would mean the big band and duos aren't included. Just thinking out loud, the Cyrille is particularly puzzling (why leave off "Nuba" or one of the two Lyons/Cyrille duos?) - maybe the numbers given now are wrong, amazon.fr gives an early October release, there might be some change until then.
  19. So am I (I can only speak for myself, of course), but in some cases the sound has been tampered with to such an extent - as is the case with a lot of "modern" remasters, at least to my ears - that I can't enjoy the music anymore. Listening to "hot" remasters like those results in quick listening fatigue and gives me headaches, and that's the last thing I need. Are you just saying (I agree, but I've heard only half a dozen discs that had such a strong effect on me) or are you talking about the boxes this thread is about?
  20. Never had any issues with sound (except for the defective Murray set). Tend to hold on to older discs I have (they include "The Hill", bought from our own J.A.W. many moons ago) when I have them, to keep the liners and all .... I'm most happy the series goes on, I'm in for the music, not for the sound - haven't been around (or aware) when the entire Soul Note and Black Saint catalogues could be bought (getting the missing five or six Muhal discs was a nice test ... a couple of them could be easily found, and for good prices, but not so with a few others).
  21. Sviatoslav Richter's ICON box, currently 18.76€ on amazon.it http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B001B1R1HC/ The Händel (famous, Penguin-crowned) sucks, but much of it is outstanding, I think!
  22. them's mighty cool pics! found here: http://www.jazzwax.com/2010/10/rita-reys-meets-art-blakey-pt-2.html different caption of Rita on the drums here: http://www.jazzwax.com/2010/10/rita-reys-and-the-jazz-messengers.html (bored tells me I can't link 'em here)
  23. the next bunch, found accidentally whilst browsing on discplus.ch - no covers, no exact date (the say "coming soon" and have a price tagged to them already): - Paul Bley (9CD / BXS 1027) - Andrew Cyrille (7CD / BXS 1023) - Art Farmer (6CD / BXS 21025) - Oliver Lake (7CD / BXS 1026) - David Murray (7CD / BXS 1024) Would that already complete Murray's run?
  24. Oh, I see! Well, good luck ... I guess small steps might be the way to go then
