  1. Oh, Gulda! Intriguing!
  2. from my (old) Bruyninckx source: ___________________ -Out of this world- : Pepper Adams Quintet : Donald Byrd (tp) Pepper Adams (bar) Herbie Hancock (p) Layman Jackson (b) Jimmy Cobb (d) Teddy Charles (vib-1) New York, 1961 Curro's Warwick LP2041, (Jap)RJ7179 Day dreams - , - Bird house - , - Out of this world - , - 61WA70 Mr. Lucky theme - , - 61WA71 It's a beautiful evening (1) - , - Curro's (alt take) T.C.B. 1006 Note : Warwick LP2041 = T.C.B. Records TCB1002 entitled "Takin' care of business" and issued wrongly as by "Donald Byrd/Herbie Hancock" = Fresh Sound (Sp)FSR638 = (Sp)FSRCD137 that contains the complete extended versions of the Warwick LP2041. -Out of this world Vol 2- : same pers. New York, 1961 Curro's Fresh Sound (Sp)FRS347 Day dreams - Bird house - Out of this world - Mr. Lucky theme - I'm an old cowhand - Note : The first 5 titles are apparently alternate takes. Although the review doesn't mention this specifically it states that on Volume 2 Herbie Hancock gets more playing time. ___________________ No idea what "review" is meant. And no idea if any of this makes sense/is accurate.
  3. new link - just ordered the book: http://www.commpound.com/apprenticehouse/2012/03/21/music-at-the-crossroads/ and a lengthy article on the book: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2010-08-07/entertainment/bs-ae-jazz-loyola-20100807_1_baltimore-jazz-apprentice-house-loyola-students
  4. Got some Debussy by Michelangeli in his DG box (the Préludes) ... don't get all the fuss about him, I'm afraid. Those are from 1988 ... but then the fans keep saying he was perfect from day one and there isn't that much change between his interpretations and stuff, or so they say ...anyway, not for me, I think. Also got Crossley and Entremont as part of a big Debussy box (the Sony one), but then I got that one mainly for other recordings included.
  5. Yes indeed, on all accounts ... don't know Andrew Gold, but like those two Blue Note albums of Grolnick quite some! The photo (with full annotation) is from here: http://waddywachtelinfo.com/waddywachtelwithlindaronstadt.html
  6. I'm enjoying her early albums quite a lot, but don't really know much after the mid 70s. Sad news indeed. "What's wrong with our bodies?" just started reading - good fun!
  7. Damn, wanted to use a gift card on my Mosaic order but didn't see where the hell I could have entered it ... send them a mail hoping they can still make use of it. Otherwise I'm kinda pissed ... they hand out gift cards but have no place where you can actually enter the number? I see on the card it says I have to order by phone or mail, but how inconvenient is that, I know NSA has my credit card anyway, but still, and doing international calls is still rather expensive in this country ... crap!
  8. not too many I was at, and save for the Steve Lacy none too great: Wiesendanger/Weber/Ulrich - We Concentrate (Hat Hut) live at Unerhört Festival, Zürich, Nov. 26, 2004 Steve Lacy - November (Intakt) a gorgeous Sunday matinee concert, again part of the fine Unerhört festival, Zürich, November 29, 2003 This solo concert belongs to my most treasured memories ... and as I recently mentioned, I couldn't bring myself to revisit it yet, although I did eventually get the CD. Trio 3 + Irene Schweizer - Berne Concert (Intakt) one title ("R. I. Exchange") is from the Zürich concert - guess what? Part of the Unerhört festival again ... November 24, 2007 I think that's it already ... I've been to plenty of concerts that were recorded by some radio (or in one case, and that was annoying: TV) stations, but only the above have been released (not sure the Lacy is a radio thing, but the WWU certainly is).
  9. Is that your type of creating "art" or are you serious about that?
  10. Can't see anything.
  11. All the best, Volkher! Hope you're doing well!
  12. Marcelle, please. But glad I'm not alone liking her Debussy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwR-3ekLu7o
  13. I've got that one ... but haven't really explored it yet. Still don't quite know what to make of Debussy.
  14. re-enactment?
  15. I don't care much about hip or not hin in most cases ... but that's a fine disc, nonetheless.
  16. got this OOP one on recommendation on another forum (thanks mikeweil!) and am most happy with it: this one's HIP ... some details here: http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=255046
  17. there are three ... at least speaking of the "Jazz in Paris" series ... first one: (digipack, 2002 - there might be four if this one was re-pressed in a jewel case edition ... not sure how many JiP discs were, but good chances this was, since Blakey's one of the bigger names in the series) then more recently, the "Collector's Edition", using original covers (and I assume the same remastering, but I never bothered to check): limited digipack edition (four-fold, kind of like the old Verve Elite Edition) and slightly cheaper jewel case version of the same: I guess in the end it really doesn't matter much, which one you get ...
  18. Here's a note from my info (not my note!) on the recording date of the show w/Bley: Recording date unknown. Probably between November 1999 and 24 October 2000. Broadcast on National Public Radio between 24 October 2000 and 7 November 2000 (http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/news.php?id=208). The program was released for broadcast by NPR on 2000-10-24. NPR affiliate stations may broadcast the program anytime during the two weeks after its release. The program is not listed in the discography in Paul Bley's autobiography, Stopping Time (http://www.improvart.com/bley/discography.htm) published in November 1999. However, McPartland mentions having enjoyed reading the book recently during the program. So I think it is safe to conclude that the program was recorded between November 1999 (the date the book was published) and 24 October 2000 (the date that the program was released by National Public Radio).
  19. I'm in but need a few days to send payment.
  20. This thread is kinda depressting ... though I do agree on the stiffness of "As Time Goes By" (that stiffness btw. is shared with the female lead in the film, that hip-stiff clean-cut boring auntie) ... just compare Lauren and Hoagy doing "Am I Blue" if you want proof. Ever been bit by a dead bee?
