  1. Just in case: that's how I have them... wouldn't spend much for the Lonehill twofer, but didn't mind doing so for the Verve CD. Though I guess the album w/Giuffre is pretty impossible to find by now, and the blues one is OOP, so the Lonehill, alas, will be the easiest option nowadays...
  2. The date with Giuffre is mighty interesting - but don't expect many horn solos (I think only one title has some), it's Giuffre setting the stage for Ellis. The blues album is close to perfection, in my opinion, great playing by all! I just recently bought a bit of a pricey copy from some amazon marketplace vendor, but I don't regret it!

  7. I'll be in Strasbourg on October 2nd!
  8. I ordered my Pearson... and to add something unlikely to go OOP too soon (quite in Reinier's spirit), I added the Braxton to my order.
  9. Allen Lowe Allen Ginsberg Charlotte Gainsbourg --- there we go again...
  10. Oh, I'd go for Dudu as well, but I've yet to see anything by him in a record store... I went immediately for Hugh Masekela's recent Verve/Originals reissue! Other than that, I guess I go for good offers by a ton of artists, rather than get someone's discs at any prize. That's not much of an option as local stores aren't much good, except for their sales/special offers...

  13. finally got a shipping notification for my mono box... had some, well, "issues", with my credit card and didn't want to risk them cancel my order and send my box to someone else before I was absolutely sure my card was covered again! Looking forward, but I bet the bastards on the EU external border will have me pay quite some VAT and fees... and they'll probably take a week to have their dogs sniff around for drugs and whatever, before I'll actually receive it - still, I guess it's about the last copy of the initial pressing still around right now, so I consider myself a lucky basterd

  15. Again: My thoughts exactly ... don't mention it please!
  16. Wogram is fantastic, but I told you so many times already, didn't I? I have one of his organ trio albums and the septet album on Enja. He does interesting sideman work as well.
  17. Lon is a redneck, Lon is a redneck, Lon is a... I like Lee and Christy and Sinatra... and so many other singers, from Mose Allison and Blossom Dearie, from Billie Holiday and Carmen McRae, to Mildred Bailey and Hoagy Carmichael (is he jazz? I don't mind... but I look forward to digging into the 10CD Avid box I recently got...) Guess I ought to check out a Crosby set, but if it's so large and only includes that Buddy Cole trio (I think I've heard him but can't say I'm familiar), it might indeed be too much of a good thing.
  18. Christophe Schweizer would be another trombone player to check out - his album on Omnitone is great. He was discussed a bit in that "neighbourhood/under-the-radar-talent"-thread a while ago. (Maybe his name is spelled Schweitzer? No, looks wrong... but maybe it's Christoph without an e, too lazy to look it up...) Ferris is a fine player, I agree! Don't know much besides his work with Texier, but he also did a Don Ellis tribute project with French musicians and played with Jim Pepper. That makes him a very interesting character in my book!

  20. I don't think this one has as many fans, but I love it. What do you mean, by comparison with the Blue Note recordings, or because Nichols in general doesn't have many fans? I think it's a fine album! Nichols as a whole would have been subject of a post of mine in this thread many years ago, when I discovered him thanks to the BN reissue 3CD set. Another thing I discovered lately is The Byrds - got all their albums up to "Sweethearts of the Rodeo" and found "Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde" in a local sale. Now waiting for "Easy Rider" and "Untitled/Unreleased" to complete my Byrds collection (assuming I can happily live without the last of their albums). As a result of that, I'll go and check out some Flying Burrito Brothers and Gram Parsons as well (thanks niko for the recs!). Also will dip a bit into Crosby Stills Nash & Young, and eventually Neil Young... (got only very few albums so far, "Stephen Stills", "Harvest", "Zuma", "Crosby Stills & Nash").
  21. I've had my eye on that one for a while. Time to pull the trigger, I guess. Yeah, it's getting kind of pricey, too... 15$ or so for a used one (plus 9$ for shipping to little ol' Switzerland...) Fantastic disc, worth every cent!

  23. I'm still a bit pissed by Reinier's attack. Just in case: I had them put a Pearson Select aside for me. Yesterday my order was shipped, and it also contained the Anthony Braxton box and a single. Ok? I also own about 20 or 25 in print Mosaic boxes and Selects, and I bought about 6 or 7 of the Singles (which seem to be pretty unsuccesful, alas). However, some of those are Universal Mosaics and I guess I have to be blamed for buying them as well? Holy holy!

  25. It's a bit more complex... of course. I read about this in Judith Butler's interesting book "Excitable Speech". Here's a link: http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1048518258780
