Happy birthday!

Just started reading, and yes, again from Wewerka - here's hope then for another bunch of Wewerka discs with all the material! (The first Forum West was a selection of highlights from the collection of discs Claude linked above.)

I put that Pauer solo show up on the other site, in case you may have missed it. It's not that bad as I stated above - I guess back then I just had too high expectations... Does the second volume of Forum West also contain Wewerka stuff, or is it compiled from other source materials, and if so, what? Anyone knows?

I am using it with a notebook, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. No upgrades of drivers available or anything that might fix my problem. At least it didn't cost that much (some 45 euro, still, argh).

I have the effing soundblaster thingie, too, but it always creates hiccups when recording, no matter if I use the awkward Creative Smart software or GoldWave or CoolEditPro. No idea what the problem could be.

IMHO, it was a lame attempt to get bucks for decent musicians. No reason to pay for it. Really? Have you played it again in recent years? I think it's quite good.

Played some vinyl again today, for a change... first Joe Malinga's album with Clifford Thornton - great! This one really grows on me! Then Marion Brown's Willisau album (on Timeless) and then the great opening tune of Griffin's "The Congregation" (Connoisseur Vinyl)

It seems to be very good! I was lucky to get it used from a board (bored?) member some time ago, but I feel like I need to play it a few more times though to really find out about it. No idea about Tony, but I sure hope all's well! I'll drop him a mail!

These Golden Afrique sets are up for 20€ on zweitausendeins! Just ordered them... since I also have a 10€ thingie there, I will get them without shipping costs! I see in a few days a third volume will be released, too! 23€ from amazon.fr (edited to put in the org/amazon.fr link, in case someone buys it...)

But wasn't that second album on the GRP one of those Keepnews hackjobs omitting a couple of tunes even though there would have been ample space? That makes me think - via the other OK hackjob that was compiled from the two Art Farmer Quartet albums (omitting one cut of each) - of my favourite Jazztet album, "Jazztet and John Lewis" - has this been out on CD? If not, feghing release it, it's a hell of a great album! Lewis doesn't play, but it's his tunes and his arrangements, and it's absolutely clear that it's his! I see it's downloadable now... that's bad news, I assume as far as a CD reissue goes... and at the same time it means it was most likely out on CD in Japan (or is this one where they did remaster something just to put it up for downloading? I doubt they do that at all...)

Ok then... but I wait for the next payday...

I like this one a lot! Great live sound, too - not your polished high end stuffe, but it sounds like you'd be there. There's a pretty fine studio date of Henderson's with Chick, on MPS: This was one of the "old" MPS CDs (released by an outfit called Motor Music), so it's most likely gone by now... I plugged it at least half a dozen times here, to no avail, seems I'm the only one who has and likes it...

Seems you're right... I tried all the larger international press/newspaper shops in Zurich mainstation... only chance might be a music shop, but I doubt I'll find it. Is it coming out monthly, so a 7 issue subscription would be for only half a year?

Yeah, but are the remasterings different or not? I wonder, since Black Lion CDs are often not exactly state of the art, while 1201 CDs say "24 bit remastered". I'll have to get both Cecils, don't have "Silent Tongue" yet, either. I played some ratty discs again of late and enjoyed them a lot: Billy Hart - Enchance (A&M) Marion Brown Quartet (new ESP reissue) Marion Brown - Why Not (ESP/Abraxas, italian release) Hemingway/Graewe/Reijseger - The View from Points West and the magnificient Jimmy Lyons box, all through, after getting those mails from Ayler records like 10 times or so (I seem to get all their mailings at least twice... same for Atavistic, and I have not signed up with two addresses).

I think DA Musik is the owner of the Black Lion/Freedom catalogue... I haven't seen any other than 1201 editions of "Silent Tongues", David, I think these are the same ones being sold here. There's also a cheapo label that's part of DA, too, that one's called Jazz Colours, I think. Has anyone here had a chance to compare some Black Lion CDs to 1201 CDs? I have only had either or, never had both editions of the same title - I wonder if there's any noticeable differene. (I have two of the Monk in London and some Dexter as Black Lion that I am aware has by now been reissued on 1201 again.)

I like 'em too ! horny what? I hope I'll like them, but looking at the pile of unheard stuff and taking into account what I ought to do besides hanging at the computer and playing tunes, I guess it'll take a few months till I make it through that set...

I'd like to see an issue or two before jumping ahead and get a subscription... I have too many things I cannot keep up with reading (some daily and weekly newspapers, Wire, the one swiss jazz magazine in existence... plus all the stuff I need to read for university).

go there and download the client http://www.bittorrent.com/download.html do some reading... you'll need to register on dad, too - sometimes that's not possible (maximum of 100'000 members, I think), but with a bit of patience it should work. and don't forget to read at least some of the faq once you're getting started (share ratio and some other important stuff that's good to know is explained in the faq's)

I've been looking for Songlines to no avail so far... doesn't seem to be a rag generally carried by newspaper shoppes up here in the remote areas of the alps...

Wow, I guess it's time I dig up that Urtreger Quintet show and finally give it a spin! Quite a surprise, Tom! Also the Shirley/Fathead - still somewhere on my HD, unplayed... The Norman Simmons must be the surprise for me here, and the Tete/Hutch the embarassment... Thanks again for these two very nice discs!
