I'm using Avant Browser while at work, but now I have a problem: I still have all the text in the header of the browser window (such as the menus, the text next to the back and forward buttons, but all the buttons have no icons on them anymore. If I click on top right, the window closes, but only because I knew where the red X button was, as it has disappeared... Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks, ubu

That's what I have, too, but the only musiciain listed as unknown on the cover is the bass player, now I wonder, has no one noticed there's a horn section of at least trumpet (unknown), tenor (Jay Arnold) and barisax (unknown)?

Got me a few new greazy CDs, among them this one: Now what's the personnel here? Anyone has more info than displayed on the CD cover? Why were they so sloppy here? The music certainly deserves better. I can hear at least one trumpet, and barisax, maybe another tenor, too? Anyone knows more about it? thanks, ubu

Bet the CD that is available at Cadence is the previous Hat reissue! Should be the new one - they're usually quite accurate with hats. If it were the old one it would read Hat, HatArt or HatHut, but not Hatology. Don't pin me on that, though.

Thanks for this link, Mike! Printed it to read on the way home after work!

Same favourites here! Add Evans' fantastic solo on Russell's All About Rosie on that third stream album on Columbia. And maybe that date with Miles which yielded a great Evans solo on "Love for Sale" (I think there's touches of Monk in there). ubu

Strange is that it's on backorder, but once you put it in your cart, it's again shipping in 1 to 2 days... I didn't go for it, by the way.

Recently got this one: Beautiful tunes, and beautiful playing! Scott is moving on his three tracks.

I remember listening to the original broadcast. But I hardly can remember if Bley sat in with Oregon - I do remember Glen Moore accompanied Bley on his set, which worked very well. The original broadcast had some Oregon numbers as well. When working on the Basie discography I got some listings from SWR2 - six or seven recordings they did of "Treffpunkt Jazz"-concerts from 1967-1980. I got photocopies of their original typewriter-notes, and they have a very chaotic system of taking hand-written notes on those files, indicating which tracks they have used for which broadcast... Seems they put together something different for each broadcast. ubu

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio3_aod.shtml?jon3 Haven't heard it yet, but it should be nice. Carla Bley's "Lost Chords" quartet (Sheppard, Swallow, Drummond) and the great Gilad Atzmon, both from this year's London Jazzfestival. ubu

Though I'd let those among who are interested know of two upcoming broadcasts on SWR2: Thursday, December 9, 19:05-20:15 Paul Bley live in Stuttgart (with Oregon?) In 1974 Bley appeared at a "Treffpunkt Jazz" concert in Stuttgart. First he playe solo, then performed together with Oregon. I don't know if only the solo parts will be broadcasted, or if also some of the music with Oregon will be heard. They announce this only as "Paul Bley in Stuttgart", but the description mentions Oregen (as I do above). Friday, December 10, 23:00-24:00 Medesky, Martin & Wood live at "Enjoy Jazz" Recorded live at Alte Feuerwache Mannheim, October 12, 2004 (link to "enjoy jazz" website))

I will let you know about the Brax. I might be gladly take up your offer, as that disc seems to be hard to find already (same applies to the ICP), and I can't afford those two right now. Will have to wait a bit, and wait for the arrival of several open orders first anyway. I got an earful of this (or another?) Gregorio disc in a store and had that same impression. Probably one to skip. ubu

Let me offer another . The playing is at such a high level that it's almost frightening. It's really amazing the level of self-assurance exhibited on this disk; all play as if one and everything just clicks. Thanks. It will stay on "the list"! The Eskelin as well, by the way. I never heard anything by him that I didn't at least consider solid. ubu

Funny story! I suppose to *really* learn it, you'd have to grow up playing from childhood. I started when I was around 16 or 17 and tried for maybe two years, but didn't have nearly as much time as one would need to make any advancements. However, having seen Zakir Hussain play (in really nice small venues in Zurich) was a great experience. Him together with Hariprasad Chaurasia -- musical heaven!

That's almost like a flashback! Thanks for the link. That's all the stuff I tried to play back when...

That's right. And then the ragas are for moods, time of day, of year etc, right? If that's right, too, I at least retain a basic knowledge (and a couple of nice CDs, of course).

yup, that's it. was this too amateurish and annoying for the King as well? only listened to the first few seconds... and then you hurried back to that crazy Korean site, right? exaclty, to listen to the Carmen ouverture, sung in Korean

yup, that's it. was this too amateurish and annoying for the King as well? only listened to the first few seconds... Those words to describe the rhythms (i.e. Teental), they relate to the number and subdivision of beats, if I remember right. It's looong back that I was a bit into this kind of things, though (ok, it can't be more than 7 years, but then those years have been so eventful it seems like decades...)
