  1. What actually IS a stupid question?
  2. Good for you, John! Seriously, you'll be in for some great music! ubu
  3. Now don't you know couw like's Mosaics about as much as he likes Miles? ubu You'd be surprised! Oh, sure, I know John likes surprises (as do I ), and I guess if he does not have to get it the "regular way"... ubu
  4. Now don't you know couw like's Mosaics about as much as he likes Miles? ubu
  5. Here's one more by Bowie (found it while looking for the one I mentioned in my previous post): http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=Ao1rp28or05ja The title of the Bowie/Shaw album is "Bugle Boy Bop" (Muse 5268). ubu
  6. There's a duo album of Lester Bowie and Charles "Bobo" Shaw. I think it was on Muse, originally. I have it on my listening pile right now. Got it on a cheap (british) Camden 2CD reissue which includes three Bowie Muse albums. I remember it as pretty good. ubu
  7. I'm late to join in here - just heard the McKusick parts on that Bluebird "Arrangers" compilation (thanks to mikeweil ). Really fascinating music. Also, it's great to hear Evans AND Russell on the same disc. Would be one hell of a Mosaic, collecting the RCA Victor Jazz Workshop albums! ubu
  8. Happy birthday! Stick around! ubu
  9. ubu B)
  10. that might be the only one I'd pay this much for! ubu
  11. There's that one Roach intro, pretty early on the respective disc, that's really some of his most impressive playing I have heard! (Don't have the set at hand to check) ubu
  12. John who? ubu
  13. Everybody who knows my tastes knows I'd love to grab this one - were it not for my dreaded buying freeze... I'm sure this is a great one, had it in my hands in stores several times. ubu
  14. Now you see, there starts your barbaric illiteracy! Umm... I don't know what you mean. I'm a grammer. Someone who grams. I take great delight in gramming. There's no greater joy than gramming or being grammed. Ideally, I try to gram at least four times a day. (A frequency NOT recommended for the beginner!) OK! I was at work and in a hurry! I've never grammed in my life! My humiliation is complete. -_-
  15. We (that is, my parents etc) used to have our own apples - hell, how do you say that - worked to "Süssmost". No bubbles, then. The one with bubbles can be alright, but often is quite unnatural, too, I feel. ubu
  16. Hey that's tonight, not last night! And I'm having this one, anyway: (and hell, answer my PMs! ) ubu
  17. Don't think soda is added. I would say it's natural fermentation. Just mentioning this sussmost has me longing for a taste! If I remember well, it originates in some parts of Dwitzerland only. If Ubu could take a break from his beerdrinking, he could shed some light on this important matter. Hey, last night I did not drink any red wine, ahm, beer - no alcoholic beverages at all - by the way, "Süssmost" is just the family version of what in the eastern/north-eastern parts of Switzerland (but who cares, Switzerland is so small) is called "Saft" (short for "Apfelsaft"), and "Saft" is not sweet, but alcoholic, and therefore much better, see? ubu
  18. Huh? Reading this thread backwards, so I might find out what they want from me! ubu
  19. mo' beer All the best, and many happy returns! ubu
  20. Hey, easy! I only used the word "great" (although more than once ) ubu
  21. Your wish is my command, your highness ..... Ahem, I was slightly earlier with my identification ..... and if you want some more Rowles, there's plenty here. Thanks, but I got to get started on all the Wes first! Great birthday present, really! ubu
  22. There's two, the second ("Jeux de Quartes") flute only, but very good, with a flute/vibes frontline. I love the J.J.! One of the best, indeed! I've had it for years. Jaspar is great, the Flanagan-Little-Jones rhythm section is great. The all stars quartet with Flanagan, P.C. and Roach is great, the band with just brass frontline (J.J. and Nat Adderley) is great, Nat Adderley in general is great, Freddie Hubbard is great... so much great music on 7CDs... and the sound is great, for my ears, too! ubu
  23. Uh, well, obviously I have the short Monk one, too, but as Mike said, bloody customs made this quite a mess! And I have "In A Mist", but I put those bad Columbia discs on some pile of to-get-rid-of-discs the day I heard about the Mosaic (which I still don't have). Only listened to that music once or twice, three or four years ago. Then also I have the Jelly Roll, but as yet unlistened (if it is part of the 5CD RCA set or the one Commodore/GRP CD, if not, I don't have it) ubu
  24. Well, as usual, a few I have but don't know too well yet: the Timmons, I have heard on my father's oooold beat up Riverside LP, but it's been ages, and that was really far from obvious! The Rowles (#1): I got this disc maybe a year ago, listened to it a couple of times, and never since... and it's the only Rowles so far that I have. And god bless them Zoll-guys! If not for them, I might have been the young one to lead you old men to the Brookmeyer/Evans... (I'd love to hear that one!) ubu
