  1. how 'bout this one?
  2. This one smokes indeed! When reading the title of this topic, I immediately thought about Cannonball, but could not make up my mind about one album. The Lighthouse one is very soulful, too! Or the Jazzworkshop album. And how about Milt Jackson, "Plenty, plenty soul"? ubu
  3. This does indeed wet my appetite, EKE! I hope I will be able to make it! ubu
  4. Not to discourage you, but my experience is that Amazon.de is very slow in updating their files as far as unvailability of CDs is concerned. They stop backordering after some time and do not notice a title is deleted until someone orders them. This happened to me several times ... I know this! Hell I know I'm still waiting for some orders to be deleted... Yet it might be worth a try. ubu
  5. Cool link, Bev! Will have to read it when I find time! ubu
  6. amazon.de seems to be a possible way to go. They still list 65 hits for a "jazz in paris" search. ubu
  7. and there was the marvellous Rowles/Getz "The Peacock"... great one to have! ubu
  8. Thanks, brownie! I'll check as soon as I find time to listen to this album again! ubu
  9. Thanks, Mike! Sounds good to me. I don't have the video either. Will have to listen to it as soon as I can - I really enjoy this album! ubu
  10. Thanks, guys! And thank you, Mike! I hope this will clear it up! ubu
  11. Wouldn't they make up a very nice Mosaic Select ?!? ubu
  12. I love the Nessa set, too! I've had it for several years (it was one of my first Trueblue purchases). Otherwise, I've not yet started continuing my AEOC exploration very much further. I picked up a CD reissue by 1201, called "Spiritual", and then that italian magazine called "Musica Jazz" (I don't know whether it still exists, it's been several months since I last saw it) had a concert (one of the last ones with Bowie, but without Jarman) added to one number. ubu
  13. Yeah, that was "Helen Merrill aka Jelena Ana Miketic" - sublime indeed! And "You And The Night And The Music" as well as "Brownie" were very good, too! I do like her voice on the later records just as well as on the earlier ones (of which I have only the sides with Brownie, and then those Milestone (?) albums reissued on Universal). You might check out "Music Makers" (Owl, as I get it, these are distributed in the US by Sunnyside, but I don't know about it) - it features her with Gordon Beck (with whom she made a good album of duos, also for Owl) and Steve Lacy or Stephane Grappelli (one per side of the original record). ubu
  14. So this means I gotta run and pick up all not protected I can find!?!?! I rather stop eating and renting a flat yesterday than today... HELL! Why they do this!? Is there any place where one can make complaints about this shit? I mean, the salespersons in stores here don't even realize that they are not selling compact discs anymore but those darned... (neither do they realize what a piece of **** those definitive reissues are. They carry them, and they even sell them for full prizes... holy cow!) ubu
  15. David, I think it started two batches ago, but I'm not sure, which is why I'm asking for a list... ubu
  16. Can someone provide a list of the RVG batches that are copy protected? While In Search of New Land and Mode for Joe certainly are, I don't think Sidewinder is!? At least it's not written on those I saw here (I still own the old CD only). ubu
  17. This shows us what the margins are... a CD's worth is some 5 or 6$ or even less... I mean, I do not care to pay a little bit more for a mosaic or some independent label release, but hey, for instance Universal discs sell for 33 CHF here, which is around 21 Euros or some 24 or 25$ currently... And you won't see any release (except for the LPR series, which are nice price releases here, and cost 23-25 CHF) from Universal for any better price! ubu
  18. I don't seem to be able to find this one for a reasonable price here in Switzerland (and amazon.de does not seem to deliver it... well, at least they did not yet cancel my order, so there is hope still). Petty I cannot participate here, as I like Jordan a lot! I recommend picking up the two 32jazz dates, as long as they're around! ubu
  19. EKE, I will probably see Ibrahim solo in two and a half weeks here in Zurich. I have seen him recently with his trio, and earlier with Roach and some years ago solo, too. The solo concert being the most memorable of these three concerts, I hope for another good one! ubu
  20. MY BOX HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!! Very cool! No chance to listen yet (and very little time currently), but it SURE LOOKS GOOD TO ME! Gotta give Mr Stom props! And huge thanks to Chaney for hyping me to this one in time! ubu
  21. Jim, thanks for the I got Vol. 1 out of a sale bin earlier this year for some 6 or 7 bucks worth of money, but have only listened to it very casually. Gotta sit down and give it a thorough listen! And get Vol. 2! ubu

  23. calling sponsor ... calling sponsor ... poor king ubu calling sponsor ... please send pm to receive address where to send either the De Franco discs or cash... thanks, ubu
  24. Oh, yes, I forgot about the address part! If somebody will do a CDr for me, please PM or Email me, to tell me where to send my address! ubu
  25. Could anyone please type out the track listings and dates of the Fats Navarro/Tadd Dameron Milestone CD? I'm trying to figure out if I need that one, or if I do have all the tracks somewhere else already. As those broadcasts often included the same tunes again and again, it's impossible to compare just the info on the fantasy-website and the discography. thanks! ubu
