Matthew, Not sure anyone you mention aside from Felix has all that much trade value and there's no way they move him. Bedard is an accident waiting to happen. Washburn is 26-45 since coming over from the Angels and Beltre, well if there ever was a one year wonder who parlayed that year into lifetime security, it's Beltre. All field no hit third basemen are a dime a dozen. Unfortunately for M's fans, Seattle is going to be paying for the stupidity of Bill Bavasi for many years to come. Up over and out.

Most likely the same poor soul who cleans the spitoons will also draw this duty. It's not like you can drop a pink biscuit in one of these things and just forget about it. Up over and out.

Another Yankee game...another Yankee loss. Not only that, but with A-Roid returning to the team this weekend, this circus is about to add another ring. Somewhere behind closed doors, the brass has to be discussing a managerial change. I supported Girardi when they hired him before last season, but he's had more than enough time to show that he can get the job done and it's pretty obvious he can't. Best to cut your losses now and try to get the ship righted before its too late. Right now, the whole organization both on and off the field is a total disaster. Too bad The Boss is out of it. Heads would have rolled long ago if he still had his wits about him. Up over and out.

I don't know, Dan. Have you ever compared before and after pix of Mike Lowell? If there's a more obvious juicer, I don't know who it would be. Manny and Lowell are just the tip of the iceberg. Once MLB gets to looking into this, who knows what might happen. I mean c'mon, Dan, the Yanks were up 3-0 in 2004 and lost the series? No way that happens unless are chemicals involved. I've often wondered why it's possible to be inscrutable, but not scrutable. Dan? Up over and out.

This reminds me of another "time" tune. Does Anyone Really Know What Time It Is? from Chicago's first album, back when they were known as C.T.A. and back when they were a real rock band. Up over and out.

In the past, I've made no bones about my reaction to grunters. At best, it's a distracting habit and, at worst, incredibly selfish. It makes me wonder how the grunters among us rationalize their behavior, which leads me to a question. Why do they do this? Is it an honest affectation, a sign of really getting into what one is doing or is it some sort of copy cat behavior, an homage to those who they respect as musicians, i.e. does Jarrett grunt because Bud Powell grunted? Or does he writhe around the keyboard like he's having some sort of petite mal seizure because Monk did the same sort of thing? Or is this like women's tennis in a post-Monica Seles world where if you're not grunting, you're not giving it your absolute best? Is there any record of anyone actually asking Jarrett or any of his ilk why they do what they do, or would someone who is in a position to ask this question not do so in deference to their respect for a particular musician, or, in the case of Jarrett, in deference to their own well being? Assuming the question has actually been asked and answered, the logical follow-up would be how they feel this plays with those who have to listen to and tolerate their warbling. Enquiring minds want to know. Up over and out.

Dropping A Drumstick While Performing
Dave James replied to Soulstation1's topic in Musician's Forum
Sticks have also been known to break. It's always a good idea to have a few extras within reach. When I played in groups in high school and college, I had a gizmo that attached to the cymbal stand for storing extra sticks as well as brushes and mallets. That made it pretty easy to grab a stick if you dropped one or broke one. Up over and out. -

I suppose this was inevitable. Here's a blurb from Dusty Groove with both spellings: Louis Moholo/Keith Tippett/Julie Tippetts/Canto -- Viva La Black Live At Ruvo ... CD Ogun (UK), 2004. New Copy .... $14.99 Three British jazz legends meet up with an ultra-hip Italian group -- all in a soaring, joyously progressive style that makes the album one of the best from the Ogun label in many years! Canto Geral is a large ensemble who mix together horns and voices with a full, rich sound that almost reminds.... Up over and out.

Bev, You are correct, sir. When I opened up the link, I can listen to the samples, but the following message also appears: ALBUM UNAVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD We're sorry. This album is unavailable for download in your country (United States) at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Guess I'll have to wait while the U.S. eMusic "affiliate" catches up. The samples do sound intriguing. Interestingly enough, I was still able to save the album to my personal queue even though I can't download it. I'll just keep it there to remind me to revisit its availability here in the states. Bev, Are you sure about your eMusic referral? I can't find this one in their catalog. There is a band called Nostalgia 77, but it's not, as far as I can tell, inclusive of Julie Tippets. FWIW, I'm a huge Brian Auger fan with or without her. Up over and out.

I had posted this as a tag to the thread discussing the recent Bolton release on Uptown, but I thought it might be overlooked. Given that there seems to be a fair amount of interest in what became of him, I'm reposting this an an independent topic. http://jazz.com/features-and-interviews/20...e-bolton-part-1 Up over and out.

FWIW, both the Thompson Uptown and quite a nice retrospective of Nathan Davis' recording career between 1964 and 1976 are available on eMusic. Up over and out.

The only good thing about this is that Wang isn't going to be part of the rotation for awhile. When you're booking an ERA in the neighborhood of 29 and you give up enough runs to make it to an even three dozen, something is terribly wrong. It's time for the Yank's pitching coach to start earning his money. I'll tell one thing, if The Boss was still coherent enough to realize what was going on, I can't imagine the kind of noise he'd be making. Girardi better turn this around in a hurry or he's going to find himself sitting on a pretty hot seat. Screw it. Bring back Bobby Valentine. Up over and out.

Hey man, glad you escaped unscathed. I can only imagine what that must've been like. None of us spend time contemplating anything like this and how we would react, so it's all extemporaneous. Just thinking about having to make decisions on the fly is creepy. The important thing is that you're OK. Secondarily, so is your collection. In my case, I'd make sure that the two dogs and three cats were accounted for, then I'd worry about the CD's. Up over and out.

Great. Do-mess-o Marte pitches an inning of T-ball and Mark Texiera is whopping the ball at a clip that makes the Mendoza Line look like a nine foot high jump. I was a Girardi advocate before he was hired. Now, not so much. This has trainwreck written all over it. Thank God for A.J. Burnett. Up over and out.

Here's a link that will get you to the Dead's show in Veneta, Oregon on August 27, 1972. More than a fair number of folks consider this version of Dark Star to be the best ever. I was at this show, so I wish I could comment, but you know how it was at Dead shows. All I remember was is was 105 degrees and there was no water until Kesey and the Pranksters brought in a 20,000 gallon truck. The only thing that kept me from passing out was the rampant nudity and the fine Columbian. The Dead played for over three hours. They only stopped to take salt tablets and to retune their guitars as the intense heat was warping the bridges. http://www.archive.org/details/gd1972-08-2...milton.152.shnf Up over and out.
