  1. I have fallen hook, line and sinker for this gal. From Philadelphia, 6' tall with a model's stunning good looks and a voice that stops you in your tracks, what's not to like? She was more or less (mostly more, IMO) the Whitney Houston of her day and was actually dropped from Arista Records when they signed Whitney in the early '90's. Unfortunately, she was tormented by multiple mental problems throughout her all too brief life and chose suicide in 1995 at the age of 46. Here are a couple of videos you might enjoy. The first is with Pharaoh Sanders. The second is a quiet storm pop tune accompanied by some nice photographs of Ms. Hyman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WLkISJyg3o Up over and out.
  2. No, no. John, Paul, George and Bingo. Up over and out.
  3. Even though I like Crosby, 7 CD's of Der Bingle in a small group setting strikes me as way too much of a good thing. Mosaic is clearly aiming at the Four Freshmen crowd with this release which, for them at this point, may be their best move. This is one I can pass on easily. Up over and out.
  4. List of IP sets: Joe Pass Woody Herman Louis Armstrong Johnny Smith Chu Berry Of the five sets you mention, four of them are currently on hiatus. Given what seems to be going on at Mosaic, I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever see these again. One of the criteria used to determine if a set should be reprinted has to have been based on how well it was selling. That's why it's no surprise that the Armstrong has been available all along. He's money. The others? Not so much. Unless Mosaic can somehow extricate itself from the financial situation in which they currently find themselves, it would make no sense to allocate resources to the manufacture of product that isn't going to move. Up over and out.
  5. I hate to be that guy.....I just called Collectors Choice and they said the Lou set is currently out of stock..... Nice of them to update their website. Up over and out.
  6. I checked on a couple of other items that I know are readily available and it also says "Usually ships in 2-3 days", so I'm guessing (hoping) that this is standard operating procedure for Collector's Choice. We'll see soon enough. Up over and out.
  7. Don't overlook Collector's Choice. Although my order hasn't been confirmed, I'm theoretically in line to receive the Lou Donaldson box. Total cost including S&H, $103.00. I'll report back once I know this is a "go". BTW, they have lots of Selects in addition to big boxes in their online catalog. Up over and out.
  8. If you want to see what's currently possible along these lines, go to Pristine Classical. They offer lossless FLAC downloads in either 16 bit (CD quality), 16 bit ambient stereo or 24 bit (studio quality) formats along with dowloadable artwork, track listings and commentaries. I've purchased a half a dozen of their recordings in 16 bit FLAC and they are very nice. Up over and out.
  9. There are quite a few Selects up for auction on eBay right now, many right around or slightly less than retail. Get 'em while they last. I'm guessing sellers are going to be asking for a lot more when the next batch of offerings goes up for bid. One other thought. If Mosaic doesn't survive, can you imagine the prices big boxes will be demanding in five years? Yow. Up over and out.
  10. I don't watch Idol, but more than a few people who are on this board do, so while it may not be newsworthy for some, it might be for others. Don't forget, this is a big tent. Further, I'm a fan of DeGeneres, so that made it more interesting for me. With regard to her musical chops, who cares. There are three others on the panel who, at least in theory, have them. I'm guessing they're trying to lighten things up a bit. Nothing wrong with that. Up over and out.
  11. Ellen DeGeneres. They could do a lot worse. Up over and out.
  12. Even this "not so hot" review is pretty complementary of the mono releases. If money isn't an issue, that's clearly the way to go. Up over and out.
  13. From CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/09/0....999/index.html Up over and out.
  14. Nuts! I thought I might be candle boy. I've never had a nickname. Up over and out.
  15. I actually saw the Jeff Lorber band featuring Mr. G many moons ago. They opened for Pat Metheny. Go figure. Lorber did a tune called Delevan's that I used to like a lot. It was named after a long gone Portland eatery where he used to play. Up over and out.
  16. I rest my case. Up over and out.
  17. Dan, Would you rather have the Yankees pen or the Sox pen if the playoffs started today? Up over and out.
  18. Hmm... perhaps a chain of fiefdoms? How about "jazz provinces" ruled by various war-lords? In that case, I dibs Bloomington and Whitehall for me and Chuck, respectively. And if the "jazz train" wants to come through, they'll have to pay tribute. How about the Blue Note Street Team? Up over and out.
  19. Unfortunately for the M's, it's going to take them several years to move beyond the lingering effects of the Bavasi regime. That guy was a franchise wrecker. With regard to the Red Sux, they better hope Wagner brings his A game. Bard clearly isn't ready for the show and I would not want to put my trust in Ramon Ramirez or Manny Delcarmen on any sort of regular basis. Tonight is a perfect example. Up over and out.
  20. Holy jumpin' up and down Martha. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4440905 Up over and out.
  21. I just placed an order using Amazon.uk for the mono box. Cost, $286.78 USD including shipping. No discussion of availability like there is on the U.S. Amazon site. If anyone is interested in the Capital boxes, I have Vol. 1 & 2. $35.00 each including S&H. Paypal preferred. Up over and out.
  22. Apparently Kenny Williams is so disgusted with his underachieving ball club that he's put almost everyone on waivers. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to Jim Thome, Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko and Jose Contreras. Apparently, the Dodgers have already put in a claim on Thome and the Rockies (God knows why) on Contreras. As long as the deals are done by midnight tonight, all of these players will be eligible for post-season play. Nice move by Williams considering he was the architect of this debacle. Up over and out.
  23. I have nothing against Christmas, but the fact that Bob Dylan, that's Bob as in Dylan, will be releasing an album of Christmas music somehow seems wrong. If you could go back in time and tell the Highway 61 era Dylan that in 2009 he's be recording a Christmas themed album, I wonder how he would have reacted? I know the times they are a changin', but this isn't working for me. Should I feel shame? Up over and out.
  24. According to ESPN, Brad Penny has been released by the Red Sux. Up over and out.
  25. Doesn't surprise me...I read somewhere a long time ago that Lester Young was a fan of Sinatra. In Sinatra-world, "close friends" could mean he met him once. Up over and out.
