  2. Some triple and/or brune with dinner tonight. I have some Westmalle bottles in stock, but first need to finish the Leffe that's in the fridge. I don't suppose Arrogant Bastard Ale is exported to the EU...
  3. We can be certain that these are straight reissues of the earlier versions. Right. The only thing that is going to be different is the color of the OBI. Bump. My copy of the JRVG (TOCJ-7147) arrived today and the back cover art (a nearly straight copy of the EU version) says it was remastered in 2004 by Rudy. The description at CDJapan said:"Priced-down reissue featuring remastering from Rudy Van Gelder based off of the original US version masters." So the disc was supposed to be issued in the US (cancelled) and hit the shelves in Europe with copy control using the earlier JRVG mastering? How can we be certain this is a straight reissue? Were more pre-2004 JRVG masterings eventually used in the US/EU?
  4. That getting good advise on jazz releases is just as costly as relying on a penguin guide and browsing in record stores. It just makes for a more enjoyable CD collection.
  5. I'm very happy to say I was there. Lucky you! I revisited the LP after a number of years and enjoyed it a great deal. I was struck by the rhythm section as much as anything else. The liner notes seem to suggest it was a lengthy concert with more than on these four sides - I'm not aware of more of it being released, are you? Perhaps no edits on the CD? LP (according to discogs.com): A1Jas Van (For James VanDerzee)15:06, A2Home (Part 1)8:00, BSecret Of The Circle19:03, C1Home (Part 2)8:40, C2Murray's Steps15:23, DConcion De Amor En Espanol (Spanish Love Song)23:20 1999 CD (from my own collection): Disc 1 JasVan (20.01), Home (16.20), Secret of the Circle (21.27), Nairobia (17.30) Disc 2 Flowers for Albert (28.57), Murray's Steps (17.34), Concion de Amor en Espanol (23.40) Back cover indicates Nairobia and Flowers for Albert were previously unreleased.
  6. Album covers featuring the Twin Towers released pre-9/11. I've been wondering how many there are.
  7. Not quite. io9.com
  8. Not the best example, but it can be had more cheaply and every supermarket around here has it. The new Leffe Royale Blonde Superieure is a lot more complex and has plenty of character.
  9. Perhaps try to get your hands on the live Bemsha Swing (Blue Note)? I like it better than the last three Columbia studio albums, and the sound is very good.
  10. That shows how artificially inflated prices for foreign beer can be. I pay about €6.70 for a six pack Triple. A six pack Brune would cost about €0.30 less. (A six pack Blonde is €4.95 at the local liquor store. A 50cl can €1.29.)
  11. You should see what a Budweiser would cost you in the lowlands.
  12. Urquell is marketed as a specialty beer above €1,60 (33cl)in one giant supermarket chain around here. Leffe can be had more cheaply, especially blonde, all variants available. It's just that most Dutch pils sucks ass. Hertog Jan is OK, though. I mostly drink Belgian beer.
  13. I had a few of those recently. If Urquell wasn't so expensive around here, I'd drink it more often. Thumbs up.
  14. "I may not be a first-rate composer, but I am a first-class decomposer."
  15. I stopped listening to Jarrett because of the groaning. As for the coughing, the following by a different artist is rendered completely unlistenable by it to me. End of rant.
  16. On 24 July EMI Japan will reissue the State Of The Tenor albums as two SHM CDs. The description on CD Japan specifically states the albums are remastered. Does anybody know if these albums were remastered before for the Japanese market? Or are these new remasters? Link to Vol.1 (TOCJ-95017) Link to Vol.2 (TOCJ-95018)
