  1. Yeah, I remember picking up the Plugged Nickel set in Canada at A&B Sound during a 20% off sale and even then it was over $100. Worth every cent of course - to me it was like discovering the Rosetta Stone of Miles Davis, at the time. It was great discovering how these tunes Miles had been playing through the years with his different bands were completely transformed by the time of the Plugged Nickel recordings. I believe it greatly helped me in my appreciation of this music, even though initially it was a bit overwhelming. The second great quintet is still my favorite Miles Davis band. The first Davis albums I ever bought were Kind Of Blue, Sketches Of Spain, and Nefertiti. Good decision making for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
  2. These companies own a lot of the most important art of the twentieth century and all they are interested in making a profit for investors. Fuck preservation, availability, etc.
  3. My fault for taking things too literally.
  4. Since the start of summer I've been wearing my winter coat daily.
  5. Seriously? I would never lent my set to anyone. A strange story you having to give out such a warning. "Oh, by the way, Scott, I sold that rare CD box you borrowed me. Here's your cut."
  6. (Sorry, original post removed, new kosher link provided. ) Is anyone here familiar with the bootleg Live In Tokyo 1984 (Flock Records)? I'm interested in the sound quality and on what tracks Adams sings (the less the better). http://www.donpullen...disco/tokyo.htm 1. City Gates (Adams) 18:40 2. Duke Ellington's Sound Of Love (Mingus) 16:58 3. Seriously Speaking (Adams) 8:16 George Adams (ts,fl,voc) Don Pullen (p) Cameron Brown (b) Dannie Richmond (dr) Rec. 14.11.1984 live at Ginza Yamaha Hall, Tokyo, Japan CD: Flock Records FLK-32019 (2012)
  7. Nothing against Kevin Bacon. Usually I either like a show or feel indifferent. The Following is different. I should not have fast forwarded through more of the season after initially tuning out near the beginning. Just because it's fiction is no excuse to serve pink slime, Bacon or no Bacon.
  8. Old Toby, the finest weed in the Southfarthing.
  9. At least these douches are housebroken and won't tear down the place if the object of their admiration loses.
  10. Or a sport for people who aren't mouthbreathers?
  11. Wow. The re-booted Blue Note years. In all their glory CDJapan does not yet have the new releases for October up, so there might be more. The serial number TOCJ-95101 has already been taken by a new release (Terri Lyne Carrington - Money Jungle (2013/07/24)), so there could conceivably be 60 more reissues...

  14. The Following has truly awful writing. So hey, if crime drama cliches are your thing. I find it loathsome.
  15. Danish driver killed early on in third round. First death since 1997. http://youtu.be/KXErF1eRkOI http://youtu.be/orB7ev0Iwy4
  16. Only EMI Japan seems still active reissuing Blue Note material with the BNLT999 & BNLA999 series. Next month remastered SHM CDs of Joe Henderson's State Of The Tenor Vol. 1 & 2 will be released. See post #29 in thread.
