Yeah, I remember picking up the Plugged Nickel set in Canada at A&B Sound during a 20% off sale and even then it was over $100. Worth every cent of course - to me it was like discovering the Rosetta Stone of Miles Davis, at the time. It was great discovering how these tunes Miles had been playing through the years with his different bands were completely transformed by the time of the Plugged Nickel recordings. I believe it greatly helped me in my appreciation of this music, even though initially it was a bit overwhelming. The second great quintet is still my favorite Miles Davis band. The first Davis albums I ever bought were Kind Of Blue, Sketches Of Spain, and Nefertiti. Good decision making for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

These companies own a lot of the most important art of the twentieth century and all they are interested in making a profit for investors. Fuck preservation, availability, etc.

Wow. The re-booted Blue Note years. In all their glory CDJapan does not yet have the new releases for October up, so there might be more. The serial number TOCJ-95101 has already been taken by a new release (Terri Lyne Carrington - Money Jungle (2013/07/24)), so there could conceivably be 60 more reissues...
