  4. She certainly wasn't/isn't a favourite of Cook and Morton of The Penguin Guide to Jazz. I remember some pretty harsh reviews.
  5. "Is this your homework, Larry?" (Could not resist.) Happy Birthday, Larry!
  6. I have only seen the first two seasons, but agree with Brad they are excellent.
  7. Eric Dolphy At The Five Spot (Analogue Productions Hybrid SACD) Stellar mastering by Kevin Gray.
  8. The Bad Plus' last album with Ethan Iverson at the piano, It's Hard, contained all pop, rock, & country covers and was a horrible dud. A showcase for keeping the amount of pop covers to a minimum. The best thing about that band was their original compositions.
  9. When I started collecting jazz in 1998 the old standards were important reference points. Then hearing what the Miles Davis Quintet did to them at the Plugged Nickel was mind-blowing. These days however, I have no need for new recordings of these old standards. Any post-60s or -70s recording of them might turn me off an album, a few exceptions aside. Today's new listeners are just as likely to start out with a healthy dose of Columbia Miles Davis, so I doubt new recordings of the old standards are necessary. After a certain amount of exploring jazz people don't need handholding.
  10. Sam Rivers & Alexander von Schlippenbach Tangens (FMP)
  11. Air 80° Below '82 (Antilles, Island, J33D-20008) A great addition to the Mosaic Henry Threadgill box. Next month I'll finally pick up the Nessa.
  12. "Sharks love jazz but are stumped by classical, say scientists" Wait, does this mean Bill Cosby is stumped by classical?
  13. I get why you sold it, but I also understand why you would want it back. Only about half is worth listening to, but for the introduction price it was value for money. Great sound quality overall. This box set contains some of the absolute worst music in my collection.
  14. Darjeeling: Ambootia Royal First Flush 2018
  15. Eric Dolphy At The Five Spot (Analogue Productions Hybrid SACD mastered by Kevin Gray), I bought this with 20% discount and free shipping over at JPC today.
  16. Great news, gentlemen! The 75th anniversary SHM-CD from 2014 (TYCJ-81075) contains the saw solo! (I compared with Mike's YouTube clip.) PS This reissue from 2017 probably contains the same mastering: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UCCQ-3010?s_ssid=e37f265af32bb5c4dc
  17. Air 80° Below '82 (Japanese CD from 1987, J33D-20008)
  18. I do. Is it too much to ask for a US Blue Note CD reissue series to offer near audiophile sound quality for once?
  19. Michael Jackson's Thriller sometime during the eighties.
  20. One night cap and then off to dreamland.
