  1. Liner notes Japanese only, no date provided. Layout tracklisting and back artwork about the same as for previous BN SHM-CDs. Tracklisting page mentions ℗ & Ⓒ 1996. Whatever this is, does not sound like 1996 3CD set, BN Works (TOCJ), RVG, or highly compressed Japanese 24bit mastering from 00s to me.
  2. Lee Morgan Live at the Lighthouse SHM-CD (UCCQ-3009) First impressions: Not the same mastering as the 1996 3CD set. The SHM is less muddy, more of Roker's and DeJohnette's drums, pleasant cymbals sheen at the top. No excessive compression, bit higher levels, still crankable. Recommended.

  4. Now listening to the Lighthouse SHM. Sound is fine. Glad my cancellation bounced. Will compare to a FLAC rip of the 3 CD set shortly.
  5. It looks like the new stereo titles come in regular super jewel cases.
  6. Self-taught rocket scientist plans to launch over ghost town
  7. I had a 20% discount voucher for JPC in my inbox that was about to expire, so I ordered Booker Little The Freedom Book on APO Stereo Hybrid SACD. Should be here sometime next week. Should be a winner.
  8. Here are the only two reviews currently available: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/nov/08/beethoven-the-late-string-quartets-cd-review-quatuor-mosaiques-naive https://www.earlymusicamerica.org/web-articles/quatuor-mosaiques-excels-in-late-beethoven/ I have listened twice to Op.127, Op.131, & Op.135 now. The performances are sublime imo. I do not have as extensive a classical knowledge and library as you do, so there is little to add. Tonight I'll put on Op.130 & 133.
  9. New arrival. I just put the first disc in. Sound is fine at least. My Amazon FR order from a couple of weeks ago got lost in the mail. After my refund was processed I order through the local classical music store. Comes in a slimline box. Booklet is 40 pages in three languages. Contains an interview where it is explained why the second finale to op.130 was not recorded, but I have yet to fully read it. I prefer the Grosse Fuge anyway.
  10. Hmm. I just found out that the Live at the Village Vanguard Again! budget CD from 2010 (UCCI-9144) is in fact the same as the 24bit 92kHz mini-LP from 2001, UCCI-9010, according to the matrix ring. The booklet reproduced the credits for the earlier 20bitK2 mastering by Shigeo Miyamoto and Tamaki Beck, and so I listed it as such on my initial post on page 1. I would however trust the CD's matrix ring over the error-prone Japanese booklets. That one seems to be quite rare on eBay. Not just ridiculously priced, but simply unavailable. A shame as Universal Japan did reissue the Live in Japan Deluxe Edition 5CD set at a lower price (with different cover art).
  11. This album always gives me an uncomfortably morose feeling. I can't listen to it.
  12. Too late, I already ordered. PS Just sent a cancellation request to customer service.
  13. The SACD is one of those discs were Hoffman has decided it is verboten to hear the cymbals up front.
  14. I missed out on that 3 CD set, so I'm happy with this new release.
  15. I am about to order this. Hopefully a new transfer & mastering.
  16. Perhaps you have made a mistake, Lon? The original album has 8 compositions. According to this: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/CDSOL-45381?s_ssid=e32ca45a12c8f4c867 there are 6 alternates (Nica (twice), Minor Meeting, Blues Blue, Junka, Sonia). This is the same tracklist as for my SHM-CD from 2008 (VICJ-61542) mastered by Bernie Grundman. According to this: https://www.allaboutjazz.com/the-1960-sessions-with-george-duvivier-and-max-roach-sonny-clark-tompkins-square-review-by-jakob-baekgaard.php the new 2 LP set also has six alternates but substitutes the alternate of Blues Blue for a second alternate of Minor Meeting not on our Japanese discs. The Bernie Grundman mastered SHM-CD from 2008 (VICJ-61542) sounds quite a bit better than the Hoffman SACD imo. The SACD also has only 5 alternates. It misses the second alternate of Nica compared to the two Japanese editions Lon and I mentioned having.
  17. The three Anthony Braxton standards 4 CD sets can once again be bought for just £10 (!) each over at Leo Records until 31 December. Another Sale of the Century: http://www.leorecords.com/?m=christmassale
  18. UCCI 9243 is not an SHM-CD. It was a budget reissue: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UCCI-9243 Some here reported these had the same remasters as the 2011 SHM-CDs (as far as those contained new remasters, see my original post on page 1). The Transition SHM-CD was UCCI-9202 from 2011. It did have fabulous sound, definitely new remaster. I listened to it only a couple of days ago. Inner ring has UCCI-9202 as catalog number. By the way, the HD Tracks Impulse! John Coltrane downloads I have heard also sound fabulous. Probably also based on new transfers and remasters. These late Coltrane SHM-CDs sound so fabulous on my current speakers, I can't stop listening when I put one on.
  19. Well, one night of Neil Young is enough for the next two decades. Where is my shotgun? Sorry, but no sell. Thank you, bittorrent.
