Morals, politics, crime and music
Jim Alfredson replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I'm getting tired of the personal attacks and disrespectful statements made towards fellow members. We can discuss things without insulting each other, can't we? Consider this a mighty big warning (to everyone). -
There is free shipping on everything after Level 4. I supposed I could make Level 4 free shipping, but I would get hosed on international orders. Thanks for all the support, those who've signed up so far. I got three hours of sleep last night after a long, 14-hour day (wedding gig) and was up and at the studio at 10am this morning to finish mixing and mastering the disc. It sounds awesome! I am very proud of it. Let's keep this rockin! We need more people on board!

As long as you pay for airfare and instrument rental, we're there! Obviously those levels are for US residents only, unless some kind overseas person would like to donate the money without getting a private performance. Only 15 orders so far. I'd expect at least 100, considering we have over 2000 members on this forum. C'mon! Let's keep it rolling! This is good, original, new jazz!

Single-horned 'Unicorn' deer found in Italy

Wouldn't that be called a unifawn? -
No, the Scully is still not 100% up and running. However, it was recorded using mainly vintage transformer based pre-amps (Quad Eight) and has a really warm sound. And it was mixed through the Neve 8068 at Glenn Brown's studio. I'll post samples on Sunday. It sounds killer. If you missed the thread about the recording process, it's here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...t=0&start=0 As far as liner notes, I wrote some brief notes on the process.

It's ok. You can't please everyone all the time. The music is great, I guarantee. Thanks to those who've signed up so far. Let's keep it rolling. Support the band and thus the forums and get something really good in return! ArtistShare ain't got nuthin' on us! I'm still working the bugs out of the software, so if you have any questions or concerns at all, don't hesistate to contact me.

Thanks, 7/4. Jim Colando and I poured over hundreds of images. He's an incredibly talented photographer and happens to be the last client my dad and I visited for a piano tuning, just days before my dad passed away. My dad wanted to introduce me to Jim because of his photography and he thought we'd hit it off. Indeed we did. Another gift from my dad. Anyway, thanks to Bright Moments for being the first official patron! (Rooster donated $200 a few months ago, but did so with the expectation of getting some cover tunes done. Ah... he'll still get his name in the new CD and a few signed copies!) Hopefully you won't be the last! If anyone knows someone who's throwing a huge graduation party / bash or other such get-together and they want a kick-ass funky jazz trio, send them our way! They can get some great music and support independent music releases at the same time! Bonus. Here's another shot of the cover art with the front cover on the right and the back cover on the left. The packaging will be a six panel digipak decorated with Jim Colando's images. It looks really slick. Again, the title is temporary; it will probably change. We're still discussing that. Get on it!

Unfortunately we're under a big time crunch, so if you want to do Levels 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 you'll need to do so before June 21st in order to get your name in the CD artwork. I have to send the disc to the duplicator that following Monday at the latest in order to make our deadline. Here's hoping that we'll get some fans who want to see organissimo perform in their own home! We don't take up too much room and I promise that Randy is potty-trained. Here is the cover art as it stands right now. The record is tentatively titled "Current", although that might change before printing. We finish mastering this Saturday. I will update this post with links to some mp3 samples by late Sunday evening. Enjoy!

organissimo heads into the "studio"
Jim Alfredson replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Well, I'm hoping to have the preoder page up and running later today. There are 8 levels of participation. We're hoping to raise enough money to cover the production / duplication costs + radio promo (about $7000). None of us are in a position to put any of this on a credit card, so if we can't raise the money, I'm not sure what we'll do. We finally paid off the balance for the past two CDs just this week, which means any sales from here on out are actually profit!!! Amazing! It only took 5 years! But we're not exactly selling them like hotcakes. So, anyway... look for a new thread with the information later today / tonight. -

John Patton's "Soul Connection" to be released on CD
Jim Alfredson replied to Soul Stream's topic in Artists & Recordings
And just like that, two minutes later, it's in my playlist. Too bad it's 128kbps. I'll probably still order the CD. But how cool... modern technology. Now go buy those organissimo albums on iTunes, people! -

COOL! My first iTunes purchase. Can't wait to hear it! -
Damn bro, that is old!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, tell me about it. I've built several computers since then, including three machines specifically for DAW use. My current DAW computer is a 2GHz Athlon X2 dual core with 3GB of RAM and it's a fantastic machine. I have 24 analog inputs and can have multiple plug-ins running without taxing it. I just recorded the new organissimo CD with it. But the office machine just keeps ticking. I sometimes think I should upgrade, but I'm actually curious how long this damn thing is going to last. So far I've had to replace a harddrive, a video card, and a power supply but the motherboard, chip, and RAM just keep going. Yeah, it's slow, but I've used it to design the artwork for the last three Big O releases including the new organissimo, which I'm working on now. And it's the machine I do all the web design and maintenance on. It just runs and there's something to be said for that. I think only my brother has me beat; he still has a PIII machine with Windows 98 on it that was built in... you guessed it, 1998. That machine just keeps rocking.

It's absolutely beautiful here today. 79 degrees and sunny with a nice breeze. This past weekend we had some bad T-storms rip through the area. My neighborhood was especially hard hit. Many old trees were literally uprooted. Couple of cars were damaged (including my neighbor's) by falling limbs, power outages (we lost power for about 12 hours), etc. But today is lovely!

"Very surprised. I didn't expect this at all here," says customer Rod Stasick. "Usually you go into a place and it has a lot of junk food and there's not any junk food in here at all." You're famous! Gas is hovering around $4.01 a gallon here in Lansing. So far it hasn't gotten above the $4.16 I paid getting back to Michigan from Indiana a few weeks back.

I would like to say that iTunes is a brilliant piece of software, too. Last night on my office machine I had iTunes running in the background along with Photoshop, Illustrator, Word, Acrobat, and Firefox and iTunes never skipped a beat. It literally never caused the music to skip. Keep in mind, this is on a computer that I built in 2000; a 1GHz Athlon Thunderbird with 512mb of PC100 RAM. It is SLOW by today's standards and usually when listening via Windows Media, I get skips if I have more than three programs going at once. I am impressed. Right now the iPod is hooked up (I had to go buy a PCI USB 2.0 card because this machine is so old it doesn't even have USB 2.0!) and sync'ing to iTunes. SWEET!
-
Yeah, it's kinda silly. Like I said, right now I just have downloads on my computer totalling 16GB and iTunes says that it's about 6.7 DAYS worth of music. 1648 songs. That's amazing. And that's just a tenth of what I can put on there. Crazy! I have not even opened the iPod yet. Still getting my computer ready.

I'm so excited! After asking for one for years, my wife finally let me buy one for my birthday. She had originally ordered me a nice club chair for the living room, but it's been a month and the chair still isn't here and she's called and emailed the company with no response. So she cancelled the transaction with the credit card company and I asked her if I could just use the money and buy an iPod. 160 GB Silver Classic. I haven't even hooked it up to my 'puter yet. I've been busy organizing my music files. I have about 16gb of downloaded stuff on my harddrive. I haven't even begun ripping my CD collection yet.
