  1. Now you guys are just being silly. Hey, I'm working on about 3 hours of sleep since I played last night, got in after 4am and got up with the little one just after 7am. Sleep is for the weary. I'm with maren(thetical).
  2. Nope. First song I learned on the Hammond was "Back At The Chicken Shack."
  3. I've heard of some issues with the Traveler (driver issues mainly) but I don't recall if that was PC or Mac drivers that people were having problems with. I just bought a Presonus FIREPOD (8 channel firewire interface with 8 mic preamps, going for around $600) and I love it. That's what those three new Christmas tunes were recorded with in my basement, even though I have three MOTU interfaces (a 2408 mkIII, a 1224, and a 24i) hooked up to my desktop music computer. The Presonus is just so easy to use and convenient... Three mics on the drums, two on the Leslie and one on the guitar recorded to my laptop running Cubase LE (which comes with the Firepod). You should really get an external firewire harddrive to record audio to. Macs are better at using the internal drive as a record drive than PCs, but it is always a good idea to have your audio going to a dedicated drive. I've been using an Acomdata E5 250gb firewire harddrive that was about $120 I think. Of course, I'm recording up to 8 channels at 24bit/88.2kHz so I'm eating up space. For what you're doing, you could easily get away with something smaller, say 80gb. SM58s are fine. You could also go with SM57s. Same capsule, different head, but a little lower profile. They use them all the time at press conferences. Are you just recording people talking? A lot of times people will use those goofy Shure mixers that automatically "close" a mic when no one is talking, auto-compress channels, etc. They can work well if properly setup, but if you're editing after the fact, you can do all that yourself (ie, turning someone's channel down, compressing a bit so you don't have to crank the volume to hear someone, etc.)
  4. I think if you click and hold your mouse over the link, a menu will pop up that will allow you to save them. At least, I remember something like that... I'm not a Mac guy, so I'm not sure.
  5. You're welcome and I hope things get better at the workplace.
  6. Got to see Harold play solo piano once in Ann Arbor a few years back. Frickin' amazing. His hands are HUGE by the way.
  7. Let me know if you want a real CD. I'll be sending them out this week.
  8. I made the change. The function has been disabled. Closing this topic. Thanks!
  9. You're welcome. We just came up with the three arrangements last night, so we have not been playing them. We'll do so tomorrow night! Unfortunately, between tomorrow and a private party on Thursday, we don't have any other gigs in December, so that will be that for those tunes for this year it seems.
  10. And here's for the CD if you have a CD printer (like I do!!!) cd_artwork_copy.pdf
  11. I got some tray card art and disc art... gimme a minute. Here's the tray card. You can add your own song order in the blank space. tray_card_copy.pdf
  12. I'll let the poll go until tonight and make the change (just because I will cry when it is done so I want to put it off.)
  13. That's a pretty slick order, Al! Can I steal it? I'm burning a bunch of discs for radio right now, but I'm only using 5 of the tunes (don't want them to get spoiled, you know). But that order would be great for family and friends!
  14. I realize that. I'm not trying to pick on you. Frankly, I don't see what the problem is if I lower the time limit to 1 minute, as has been suggested.
  15. Maybe there is a setting so that only 7/4's posts combine?? Maybe set the limit at 1 minute, and see how that goes for a week. Most people can wait a minute to get their "2nd post" in, if they really want two separate posts. But having it set at something (though a small length of time), would prevent a chain of 10 or 20 one-line posts, unless someone REALLY wanted to take the time for that sort of thing. That seems sensible to me. And this is not a feature implemented specifically because of one member like 7/4, although I do find that kind of posting annoying. Other people have done it in the past (not naming names) and I've had to take a lot of time to clean things up before. This limits people from being either malicious as well.
  16. Well, I like it but I didn't vote. By the way, I found the function to control this and I can set the time limit. Right now it's set at 10 minutes. Would it be better to set it to 1 minute or just do away with it altogether?
  17. Yeah, I have to sleep with a fan as well, or the tinnitus drives me crazy. Mine is very very high pitched and has not yet affected the lower registers of my ears. I try to take decent care of my ears, as much as possible. I think I'm going to spring for some custom molded earplugs that I can attach in-ear monitors to very very soon.
  18. Per request, and following a two year tradition, here are some holiday tunes for you! We recorded three new tunes today. Enjoy and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! (NOTE: To download, right click the song title and choose "save as" from the menu) 1) God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (4:52) 2) A Child Is Born (5:03) 3) Funky Drummer Boy (4:43) HO HO HO! Oh yeah, here are the tunes from the last three years as well. That's seven tracks! Hell, you've got yourself an organissimo Christmas CD already! Aren't you lucky? 4) O Christmas Tree (4:41) 5) The Christmas Song (4:59) 6) Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree (4:19) 7) Christmas Time Is Here (8:23) In all seriousness, here's hoping that you and your family have a wonderful holiday season and thank you for all your support of organissimo! Here's a Soundcloud playlist as well:
  19. One of the new features that the upgrade instituted is something that has caused some members grief. What happens is if you post a reply in a topic, and then go back and post another reply minutes later, before anyone else, the software will automatically add that new reply to your old one. Do you like this feature? Yes or No?
  20. This is a new feature of the updated software and I have not found a function to turn it off in the administration panels. That doesn't mean it can't be done, however. I'll keep looking. In the meantime, I'm going to turn this into a poll so we can get the majority opinion on this matter. Personally, I like it. It's more of a time limit thing. If you post 5-10 minutes after, it doesn't happen. But I'm willing to turn it off if I can find out how to do that. EDIT: I can't add a poll to your post, so I'll make one of my own. WORD!!!!
  21. Cool, I found my Christmas present for my pops!
  22. That is exactly right. Your facial features do not come from the skin, they come from the shape of your bones, how the muscles lay on those bones, etc. The skin has very very little to do with it. So the person will not look like the donor. As far as it being strictly cosmetic, read the article. She couldn't even take a drink. Imagine trying to hold in liquid in your mouth without any lips. I also heard on CBS last night that people with badly disfigured faces like hers eventually lose all their teeth from rot, since there is nothing protecting them from the elements. So this wasn't just a cosmetic surgery.
  23. It's pretty amazing. I was watching the CBS news last night and they reported this and said that the knowledge and technology to do this has been there for years, but that there have been "ethical" hurdles to overcome. Ethical hurdles!? If you can transplant a heart or liver or kidney, why not a face? This poor woman was not able to lead any semblence of a normal life. Why not let the doctors do this for her? I guess I don't understand any ethical concerns.
  24. It does that if you keep posting in the same thread within 5 minutes. That is not an error. It should not crash, however. But I'm running on a PC, so I don't know what the issue is. I'll email tech support.
