I got it last week but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. I plan on doing that on the way down to Chi-town tomorrow. The samples on CDBaby were pretty cool, I thought. And yes, the cover is... um... ... let's just say when my wife saw it she said, "What the hell are you listening to!?"

Anybody ever use non-OEM ink from eBay?
Jim Alfredson replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I seem to remember color laser cartridges being much more expensive than inkjet ink, so I don't know how much money one would save. I think I'm going to try these off-brand cartridges. What do I have to lose? Every time I buy ink for this printer I could buy a new printer! If I could cut that cost into sixths, that would be very much worth it. -
Are you talking about vocal jazz or jazz in general being boxed in? For the latter, I agree to an extent. Jazz radio seems to play it very safe (for the most part) and a lot of listeners would rather shell out $15 for the latest re-issue than for a new release. But these are generalities. One can dwell on it, or one can seek out his/her original voice and follow that as best as possible. All music I believe, if played with conviction and authority, will appeal to an audience.

I've been printing up press kits for gigs, going through ink like it was going out of style. Has anyone ever used non-(insert major printer manufacturer here) in their printers? I've used Staple brand for my old Epson 777, but now I have an Epson R200 (fantastic printer) and it uses 6 ink cartridges that cost up to $17 a piece. It costs as much to replace all the ink as it does to buy a new printer!!! I was looking at the ol' eBay and saw this: cheap inky on ebay That's two full replacement sets for $9.99 (plus $16 shipping, which is still less than a quarter what it would cost to buy those from say Office Max) but they are non-name brand. I mean, they offer a 36 count set (ie, I could replace my cartridges 6 times!) for $80 and free shipping. That is about what it costs just to replace the ink once with Epson cartridges. So, anyone have any experience with these things?

Bite your tongue. Organissimo plays Peaches on their lastest CD. ...and this is exactly why the terrorist will NOT win. I'm extremely jealous : played the tune in High School and haven't been able to play it since. Yeah, I'm jealous...I'm a pretty good woodblock player, own a pair of black shoes, and have been innoculated for most diseases so, can I join your band? I'm sure I can find a 3" snare drum somewhere so's I can do that lil' snare drum part... Sounds like a good time to be had by all!

Which is something I never wanted to do (again) after college. That's why we formed organissimo. It's been hard keeping a band together like that for five years (ok, not that hard... we love each other... but its has been hard finding work...) but it's worth it. Joe and I made the bold move of not only not playing that many standards and instead focusing on the organ reportoire while at college, but actually playing ORIGINALS while there! Oh, horror of horrors! I'll never forget one evening while rehearsing Larry Young's "Luny Tune" (which is just rhythm changes with a cool head), our instructor popped his head in and said, "Why do you want to play that?! That's cornball!" Uh, because we'd rather not play "I've Got Rhythm" for the umpteenth time, thanks. The gratification came when Ron Blake came to the school to give a master class and we got to play in front of him. After doing a version of "Sara's Dance" (I think) he asked if we had any originals. We had a new tune, without a name, that we had been working on so we pulled that out. He started dancing around the room, grooving on it, suggesting call and response fills, etc. That just confirmed to me that we were doing the right thing. That tune eventually became "Blake's Shake" on our first CD. This, imo, is precisely why "jazz" has a bad rap among the public. People might be "unsophisticated" but they can spot a band dialing it in from a mile away. If you don't play with passion, and with AUTHORITY, people won't listen. It's as simple as that.

I think we need a sign in front of my r&b band: Yes, we take requests, as follows: Mustang Sally - $25 Brown Eyed Girl - $50 Fly Me To The Moon - $50 Anything by Skynyrd - $100 Anything by Bob Segar - $100 You "play" harmonica and want to sit in - $100 You "play" guitar and want to sit in - $150 You "sing" and want to sit in - $200 You "sing" and want to sit in while we play "Me And Bobby McGhee" - $300 etc. etc.

Sports: 2005 NFL Season
Jim Alfredson replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Lions fired Marriuci. Not really surprising, but what they really need to do is get rid of Matt Millen. That guy is a horrible GM. The whole organization is terrible. Oh well... there's always THE PISTONS!!! -
And the clock is still off, I see. Back to the phone.

Part true, part major cop out. If you want to put bread on the table, there are many things that one can do besides perverting music and whoring yourself out to MTV. And it wasnt like he wasnt doing fairly well before he went total pop anyways. He had bread on the table. But you're second guessing his motivations. Maybe he really likes blues and thinks he can add something to it. Or maybe he's just whoring himself out. Who knows? It comes down to whether his music sucks or whether it doesn't. I don't really care about someone's motivation behind it.

I don't think it is the software's fault, I think it is the server still having some issues after being down. Obviously the clock is wrong, which is one problem. I'll be speaking to tech support soon.

Looks like the server's clock is messed up. I'll be calling support soon to see if 1) they can credit my account since it was down for 7 hours and 2) what the deal is with the clock.

Heads-up because this is coming up this Wednesday, November 30th!!! We hope our Chicago friends can make it out! We just got really nice write-ups in the Chicago Reader by Neil Tesser and Chicago Jazz Magazine by Paul Abella as follows:

Daniel, is this a new problem that has arisen since the upgrade? Have you checked your My Controls --> Board Settings ---> Type of text editor choices? You can choose between Standard Text Editor or Rich Text Editor. See if one of those works better than the other. I'm using the Rich Text Editor right now with Firefox and/or Explorer and Windows XP Pro and it seems to be working fine.

What the heck is up with the Bobcats? Detroit loses to Washinton in double OT last night, then Washington loses to the Bobcats tonight!!! At least the Pistons kicked some Milwaukee butt tonight. I didn't get to see either game (last night or tonight) due to playing gigs.

It's easy to be all for "artistic integrity" when you don't have to worry about putting bread on the table via music.

organissimo wants to play in YOUR TOWN
Jim Alfredson replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
It says at the beginning of our forum rules: "**DISCLAIMER!** The messages posted on these forums express the views of the author of the message, and not necessarily the views of this bulletin board or the band Organissimo." I'm not too worried about it. Let's keep this thread on track. -
Do you mean "sepia"? D'oh!
-
Are you talking like a "sienna" type of old-photograph type look? That might be interesting.
-
Sounds like fun stuff to sample!
-
We also play a tune called Pumpkin Pie!

Nothing that bad (unless I just haven't realized it yet). It may have cost us a review, that's all. No biggie.
