  1. That is a heavy question, and it applies not only to jazz, but to music in general. Why are there so few women who are instrumentalists? Do they feel pressured to become singers? Do we, as a society, accept women who play drums, play guitar, play saxophone, the same as men? Since I have a daughter now, and she is already very musical, I've wondered the same things. It is my goal to make sure she understands that she can play whatever instrument she wants, in whatever style she wants, and she does not have to take a back seat to any man.
  2. If you don't get it, leave it alone.
  3. Acid Jazz is a silly name. Funny, I was talking about this with our new manager and he said, "What the heck is acid jazz?" and I said, well... it's basically soul-jazz from the 60s and 70s. So why don't they just call it soul jazz? Because that's not hip... I guess. So nemo, when you talk about acid jazz are you talking the old stuff or the new stuff, like the James Taylor Quartet?
  4. Maybe he didn't get to be a kid.
  5. Hey, thanks! I hope you enjoy it!
  6. Interesting. Personally, I'd say these days I prefer AAJ for the simple reason that there far too many threads ABOUT organissimo AT organissimo. I went to AAJ yesterday to ESCAPE the hubbub around here.
  7. Great link! Thank you!
  8. He is not a doctor. He adopted the moniker to distinguish himself from Lonnie Liston Smith. As for the turban, he's been wearing it since the 70s.

  10. Wow.... Bucknell just beat Kansas by 1. HA!
  11. How is it?
  12. I would add Chaney, since I don't know if I pissed him off or not! I don't want anyone to leave, but I cannot be all things to all people, unfortunately. If I could, I'd be frickin' RICH!!!
  13. Yes, the new software has the coveted ignore feature. Unfortunately the website still has not been transfered. The last email I got from my host administrator said that he would do it on Tuesday. I'll keep pushing.
  14. I think it's dead. B-)
  15. Thanks for the explanation, Brad. You were not the sole reason the thread was shutdown. I'm going to close this one as well.
  16. THOSE DEVIL GYRATIONS!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Thanks bro.
  18. IIRC, Benny came out to a gig we did in Albion last summer. He's also been doing some solo gigs here and there, including at the Cadillac Club in Lansing. He is very much still with us. I haven't had the pleasure of playing with him, but have met and talked to him several times. A true gentleman.
  19. That's the only solo album of Gilmore's I've heard.
  20. Shall I take off your moniker, then? So you don't think jazz is wanker music?
  21. Hey, I even liked The Final Cut. I also dug parts of Water's last solo record (that I know of) Amused To Death. I do wanna pick up the Live in Pompeii DVD. I've heard it's awesome.
  22. I listened to Floyd all the way through middle and high school. I recently tried to revisit what used to be my favorite record of theirs (Animals) and couldn't make it through. Too down for me! But when you're in the throws of adolesence, it's good stuff! That said, I've always like David Gilmore. Very tasty and inventive player. Always had fantastic tone, too. Echoes used to be one of my favorite songs. I love the way the organ PINGS over the top of those chords. My dad swears it's a piano, but I think it's the organ... maybe layered with a piano, but the Hammond B3 has a "percussion" feature which adds a harmonic "ping" to the front of the notes on the top manual. That's what it sounds like to me.
  23. Try Cingulair. They just took over AT&T (who I've used for cell phone service for years) and seem pretty cool. I was going to be a little late on my last payment, so I called them up and told them and then didn't pay them for another few days and they were cool. Didn't charge me extra or anything.
  24. Same thing w/Blues Brothers and Blues Brothers 2000. Yes. Except I saw Blues Bros. when I was 13. I think the very first movie I saw in a real theater was Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn. That opening scene gave me nightmares for YEARS!
  25. GhostBusters II was a bad movie. However, Ghostbusters, the original, is one of the best movies ever made. I probably think that because it was one of the first movies I ever saw in the theatre when I was a kid!
