  1. That's how my pops did it back in the day.
  2. At least he's being subtle about it. I play with a guitarist that sometimes stops playing in the middle of a tune to check his watch. Or to get a swig. No, it's not Joe.
  3. Well, that was a slight delay between blogs! It has been quite a month! We very much enjoyed our tour of northern lower Michigan with Arno Marsh, Randy's father and we recorded 4 of the 7 gigs. We're currently listening to all the various takes and deciding if we have enough quality material to release a live CD. As far as our second studio album goes, we've been so busy this month even with the lack of gigs that we still haven't been able to pinpoint a time to get into the studio and record! Perhaps this is the curse of the home recordist: Since you're not paying money for a "real" studio, it becomes easier to justify delays! That said, upcoming Sundays look clear so we expect some momentum and priority shifting soon! And I promise, I will add some pictures of the basement studio as well!
  4. The Greatest Drummer Ever
  5. Saw this in the NY Times yesterday. Wow! I want one. G5 iMac
  6. AAJ's automatic backup software wasn't actually functioning and nobody knew. That's why they lost posts. Besides this server's automatic backups, I do weekly backups of my own every Sunday.
  7. Man, look at this place. Over 800 members and over 215,000 posts. It kind of freaks me out!!! I have nightmares about the board going down and losing all the posts.
  8. WHAT?!? With a name like that?!?!?
  9. It's a shame really, that a very liberal, arts-centered town (and an overall quite wealthy town) like Ann Arbor could not support two jazz clubs. I think that says something very disturbing about the state of live music in our age.
  10. Holy shit the Lions actually won one on the road!!!!
  11. Oh yeah, and Ohio State winning on a field goal against Marshall... those chumps!
  12. I didn't get to see any of the games yesterday because of a gig, but I saw the highlights on SC. Wow... what happened, Michigan? Got your ass handed to you! HA! I guess Willingham has a job for another week or so! Fresno put a whoopin' on Kansas State, too! Wow! My boys in green and white (MSU) won yesterday as well. Poor Michigan State. Good coach, mediocre players. It'll get better someday!
  13. If my wife's haircuts cost $100 I think I would flip. Then again, I probably spend that much per month on CDs.... Ok, not anymore... but I used to.
  14. That's funny. Reminds me of a time the guitarist in my R&B band kept starting a tune way too slow. We all kept saying, "Man, that's too slow!" and he would say, "You just haven't heard the original.... this is the tempo!" I said, "Man, I have the original in my car on CD! I bet you $20 you're playing it too slow! It should be here... (pat knee at correct tempo)." So we figure out what tempo he thinks it's in using the sequencer on my keyboard and do the same for me. Then I go out to my car and get the disc and play the tune over the sound system on a break. Guess who was right? Then he tries to tell me that CD players play discs at different speeds! I said, "Ok, let's go out to my car and see what the CD player there sounds like... for another $20!" He didn't go for that!
  15. It was so strange. I remember getting up late (about noon) and driving to my dad's place which was on the other side of town. I turned on NPR, expecting to hear Fresh Air and instead it's Neil Conan. I'm thinking, "That's odd..." Then he starts to update the situation and I start looking around me as I'm driving wondering if anyone else in the cars next to me knew. I didn't know it started so early until I got to my dad's and found my family sitting around the TV. The weirdest part of that whole week was playing gigs on Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th... Trying to get people to relax and dance was like pulling teeth. Then I met my wife on that Saturday at a wedding. She later told me they had the bachelorette party on September 11th.
  16. For proof, listen: Lookin' For A Love
  17. I agree. Joe and I have been doing that tune a long time.
  18. I like smelly robots. They make me feel superior to them even though they can shatter my bones with their super-robot strength and shoot lasers out of their eyes!
  19. Yeah, Kloss and Costa just jammed out on the show... it was BAD! Bill, I've got something for you... a bootleg of Gene with Martino and Randy Gellispie from 1969 in Louisville... Martino is KILLIN'! You gotta hear this!
