  1. It's that time again. For our new members from JC (and anyone else who missed this information the first few times around), it costs $1800 a year to keep this place online. Rather than try to raise all that money at once, the forum members agreed on tri-annual fundraisers. Our last one was in November/December of 2012. It's that time again. Actually, it's a bit later because we raised enough the last time to pay for 5 months of hosting instead of four. So... the goal is $600. Paypal to b3groover at hotmail dot com. If you would like to send a check, make it out to me (Jim Alfredson) and send to: PO Box 27551 Lansing, MI 48909 Thanks! ----Jim
  2. I really don't see what the big deal is. Either people will migrate here or they won't. Either they will abide by the rules or they won't. I welcome everyone who wants to join up (again... email me directly, since we seem to be having issues with the registration system at the moment). Moving on.
  3. It's a great session. I'm really enjoying these tapes.
  4. BTW, for any members trying to come over from JC, for some reason the forum software here doesn't appear to be sending validation emails. Contact me directly via info@organissimo.org and I will validate your account. I have tech support looking into the issue.
  5. Thanks, everyone. I welcome new faces to the crew. Let's move forward with mutual respect and we'll be fine.
  6. Man, we're so close!!!
  7. Yes, you are missing something because I deleted some posts that came in over night, probably while you were asleep. The reference to Lois and Crouch was beginning to escalate into ugliness. I don't think Lois deserves such derision after 15 years of trying her best to serve the jazz community. That is my call to make. I'm not going to defend this further. Enjoy the forum.
  8. New blood is welcome but I will not tolerate bringing old wars to bear here. I do not have to defend my decision to delete posts.
  9. Removed posts due to references to old wars on JC. I will not tolerate bringing that stuff over here.
  10. And the piano is very well-recorded. Who was the engineer?
  11. Properly encoded, high bitrate MP3s sound far superior to cassettes. The sentimentality of this craze is funny to me. Cassettes were a pain in the ass.
  12. Today I aided in the transfer of some 2" 16 track masters from our own Mr. Nessa. I'm not sure how much I can talk about the session in question, but it's from 1977 and the pianist is Jodie Christian (he is not the leader). I'm really enjoying his playing on these tapes. Any other suggestions for recordings of his either as a leader or sideman?
  13. $2700 left. 40 hours to go.
  14. A medium-size flathead is all you need.
  15. I merged the two threads on this. I don't know how any migration would be handled in terms of saving that data and merging it with this forum.
  16. I'm sorry to hear about this but all are welcome.
  17. Thanks, everyone. I spent the first half of the day in Dallas and at the Dallas airport. While waiting for my plane, a new friend in LA texted me with the offer of a birthday dinner and hanging out, so I took him up on that. Had a nice time. Played the Simi Valley Blues festival on Sunday and then flew home yesterday to a nice chocolate cake made by my wife. Grateful to be back with my family.
  18. Possible fall east coast swing, yes. And thanks!
  19. If any member has an issue with moderation or the moderators, report said issue privately to either me or the moderator in question. We will no longer allow threads to be derailed by arguments over moderation decisions. Thanks.
  20. The music world is vastly different than it was in 1939. Believing in an artist has nothing to do with it. It's simply a practical response to the fact that technology is available that allows everyone and anyone access to that artist's catalog for free with a few clicks of the mouse despite the wishes of the label or the artist.
  21. 9 days left. Almost to the half-way mark. I'm still confident! Now's the time to get on board.
  22. Another interesting article from our neighbors to the north: http://www.beyond.ca/bill-26-passes-is-the-005-bac-limit-fair-the-breathalyzer-challenge-2/11275.html
  23. I think you know what I mean, Kevin. If you are drinking, finish your drink, and then go immediately get in your car, that is unacceptable. I don't care if it's 10 drinks or 1. If you have two drinks at the beginning of a show and the show lasts 2 hours, as long as you don't drink any more you would be fine to drive. I doubt you'd blow a .05 then. http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20130515/NEWS01/130515012/Drunk-How-many-drinks-does-take-reach-0-05-blood-alcohol-level- If taxis are too expensive, then get a designated driver. If you're trying to argue with me that lowering the legal blood alcohol level will put me out of work, I have every confidence that people and clubs will adapt to the new law, just like they have with every other law. And if your doomsday prediction comes true and all clubs go out of business, I'll find another line of work. I'd rather drunk people stop killing innocent people on the road. But I'm certain live music will continue.
