Feeling this out - Solo project from me (NOT jazz!)
Jim Alfredson replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous Music
The new discs are here!!! The look (and sound) great! I'm very excited! I'll start mailing them tomorrow. -
BTW, I have an email into Invision to see if we can fix the problem with quotes from old posts.

Thanks, everyone! I'm thrilled to have us up and running on the new server. It may take a day or two for the new DNS to fully resolve, meaning you might find yourself back at the old server and the old forums. If that happens you can manually edit your hosts file to include the following line: 67.227.203.70 organissimo.org www.organissimo.org If you don't know how to edit your hosts file in Windows or Mac, check out this article on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file Just add the line above and you'll be golden.

We're here and open for business! Enjoy the new forum and please post any questions here. My family and I are going to pick out our Christmas tree, so I'll be gone for a few hours, but I'll check back in soon. Thank you all for your patience!

Ok, I know at first glance you're probably thinking "WTF?" As a member of numerous forums on the web, I am always taken aback when they change. But trust me; within a few days you'll be used to the new look. First things first; thank you for your patience with the transition to the new server. As of this writing our nameservers have yet to propagate; once that is done I have to set the DNS servers for the domain, which will take even more time to resolve. It will be interesting to see how long it takes until the DNS points to the new server (and thus this installation) instead of the old. You may notice the little sidebar on the right of the main index page. You can close that and the forum will become full-screen, much like before. There are a ton of new features in this software. I will be listing them here as I find them. For one, you may notice a new button in the post editor called "insert media". You can use this to insert mp3s, youtube videos, etc. into the posts. Very slick! Here is an example of an mp3: http://www.organissimo.org/mp3s/2412_04.mp3 How about a YouTube video? http://www.youtube.c...h?v=voKkE2k_f50 PMs now group into conversations, much like Google's gmail. There are many more features, most of which I have yet to explore myself. Most importantly the board is much much faster due to the latest version of MySQL and PHP and also our new server, which is exponentially more powerful than the last. This is going to be really cool! This has been a relatively painless move, but has cost me some money. Any donations would be appreciated. Concerns, questions, and comments are welcome. Thank you!

I don't know where you can find the speakers other than eBay or Craigslist, but getting a sustain pedal is usually easier. I have a Stage 73 which you've probably heard on Groovadelphia. I recently refurbished the action and put in new grommets and tuned it (it was sharp overall). It absolutely sings now.

Thank you, Dave! I hope you enjoy it. It looks like it's going to be here on Monday and I'll start shipping them that day. -

41 copies left! The disc should be here tomorrow or Saturday. Here's an mp3 player for those too lazy to click on the link: -
Great news for Big O Records; my dear friend Greg Nagy's solo debut, Walk That Fine Thin Line, is nominated for a Blues Music Award for Best New Debut. A BMA's (formerly the WC Handy Awards) is like a Grammy in the blues world. This is a huge honor and I'm very proud of Greg and my work on this disc.

In the market for my first smartphone

I have the Samsung Blackjack II (on AT&T). I needed a phone that ran Windows so I could use my piano tuning software. I like it; it does what its supposed to do. My only complaint is it can get bogged down when using the camera or scrolling pictures, but if I put some more memory in there it would probably solve that issue. I do like that it syncs with Office / Outlook. -
Been in talks with the local company; its good to know the owner's father! He's gonna give me a great deal. The last time I talked to them it was going to be more expensive per month. He's going to make sure we're not going to spend more than $150 per month (what we're at right now) but the server is going to be a MUCH faster machine with a lot more memory and HD space. And the lastest versions of PHP and MySQL so I can run the newest stable version of the board software. Sweet!

I don't know much about the 351 but I think it is a two-channel Leslie with a lower and upper rotor and two stationary speakers for reverb. I bet it would sound great. Here's a video I found of someone using one with an A102: Where are you located? A local tech should be able to help out. How many pins is the connect? My guess is 9? I'm going to move my server / change companies this week. There's a local Lansing based web host that is very highly rated. I'd like to keep "my" money here in Lansing plus I think I can get a better server for less money and be able to finally upgrade the board to the latest version. I'm going to call them tomorrow and start migrating.

It wouldn't be a jazz Grammy list without Metheny in there!

Soulstation1's Candle Business
Jim Alfredson replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Jeff was kind enough to send my wife and I two candles as a congratulatory gift for Scarlett's birth and my wife LOVED them. They are made with care and smell wonderful. -
It's already paid for this year, so might as well keep it. If I can remember that the yearly license expires around Thanksgiving, I can see if we're all in agreement next year about keeping it or not.

Are people still using this? If not, I'm going to cancel the service. They just charged another $75 for the upcoming year. Expensive.

It's a marketing term developed by people trying to make something out of nothing, kind of like Sweetest Day.

Dang. Gonna have to try to make that one.

Classic and Modern Computer & Arcade Games
Jim Alfredson replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
So I came across Fallout 2 on GOG (www.gog.com) for only $5.99. Downloadable. There's a new unofficial patch for it too which fixes the bugs AND unlocks original content that the developers included but de-activated due to not having enough time to debug them. I started playing tonight after the family went to bed. Man, that game is addicting. And fun as hell! Time vampire to the extreme. -

Feeling this out - Solo project from me (NOT jazz!)

Believe it or not, but I only recently heard Oxygene for the first time; within the last year. My dad didn't have any Jarre in his collection, though I certainly knew who he was as teenager. Hearing his classic recordings made me realize how influential he was, especially on video game music in the 80s. -
Glenn, I actually drove up to Michigan Tech (in the upper peninsula of Michigan... 9 hours, one way) to pick up the A102, drove all the way down to Detroit to deliver it and wrestled that damn thing in there (with the help of only one other person). I did it as a favor to the club because it's a great place and the owner is a cool dude. After all that... no, I don't use it. I prefer my XK3 / XK System. Why? Because it sounds better. And it's more flexible; I can control my outboard gear from it. It's a lot to haul, though not as bad as a B3 (I did that for almost 10 years... Joe can attest). These days there's really no reason to haul a B3 around anymore. Your organist should look into an XK System. The Pro system is killer and very portable and sounds fantastic, especially through a real Leslie.
