  1. I have joined the evacuees from Blindman's Blues--does anyone know of a good blues-oriented forum that isn't run by nuns?
  2. Did Jim Dye?
  3. He gave good performances that went beyond my original expectations.
  4. I found him quite impressive in live performance.
  5. No, although I did allow Don Schlitten to use one cut (w. a Brownie solo) on his International Jam Sessions Xanadu album.
  6. I bet thorough research will indicate that Phil Schaap snatched them.
  7. That would explain why I was overcome with dèjá vu while writing the Bing/Louis notes. I thought those dizzy spells I experienced were a result of my rage over the fact that Bing never spent a day repairing potholes in Tacoma--didn't even donate a penny to the re-paving drive!
  8. I like Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder (have, in fact, reviewed both most favorably in the past), but neither comes close to performing as well as they once did. Bennett's knack for repaving roads has also slipped in recent years.
  9. I'm glad I don't have this guy's hostility affliction.
  10. Our resident Kofsky wannabe is wrong again. Tony Bennett is one of the nicest people I have met in this business and I have never heard anyone who encountered him utter a disparaging word. As for Bennett having any kind of obligation to repair the streets of Queen, that's ludicrous.
  11. An exposé of the Lomaxes and their crooked ways is long overdue. It might be dedicated to the memory of Huddie Ledbetter.
  12. Two non-jazz singers--both past their prime--teaming up for a "jazz" album? One shudders at the thought.
  13. Yes, it just happened at ... http://simpsonizeme.com/
  14. Inability to keep up with demand for King Oliver recordings is a noteworthy surprise.
  15. Well, there's always Óðinn--I was rather partial to him when I attended kindergarten.
  16. I thank your god that I'm an atheist.
  17. Maxine's singing showed a vast improvement as she aged--you ought to listen to some of her performances on Concord, for example.
  18. Beryl Booker (sweet lady) surrounded by friends.
  19. I wonder if Stanley is practicing his punch--he might have to apply his fist to a good number of reviewers.
  20. The zound iz very imprezzive--one hearz thingz that zimply weren't there before.
  21. I always thought that two tracks of this guy would be more than enough.
  22. I used to have the original release of "Spiritual Unity", numbered (it was @2) and autographed by Ayler. I sold it for $65 and may well have made a big mistake.
  23. No DVDs as yet, but the Mingus documentary, "Triumph of the Underdog" includes part of one selection and my interview with Mingus. I believe all the Bill Evans performances have made their way to YouTube. Here is a partial list of shows to which we can add a forgettable one featuring Barry Miles (agreed to under political pressure) and a memorable one with Randy Weston for which Dan Morgenstern kindly subbed for me (I was ill). As you will see, I don't have complete personnel for all the shows, but I'm slowly digging up that information. Wish I could dig up the tapes, as well.
