  1. hey, where the hell did that guy get that secret sacred listening listening hat? ← you mean that's NOT you!? ... there is "white" smoke coming from that chimney above!!
  2. ...not to mention that puny buddy bolden mp3 player!!!
  3. this past weekend at the ice cream stand downtown the cone slinger girls were bemoaning the music of the high school prom that was the night before. i asked if they played "Colour My World"? they laffed heartily. i guess that shit still transcends generations.
  4. never walked out of one myself but my wife has walked out of a few including "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover" right at the scene where they lop the belly button off the kid. that's one I should certainly have joined her on. but then again my wife walked out when Ornette started playing the violin! i have changed seats many times due to the behavior of patrons in my vicinity. i remember leaning over before the lights dimmed to kindly let a mother and her three little kids know that "Serial Mom" might not be quite appropriate all things considered - her response was: "Why don't you fucking mind your own goddamn biznitz, asshole."
  5. Happy Birthday B3er re3B yadhtriB yppaH Gemini wishes
  6. In college during the midst of cold dry winters we would, after some off campus embibement, go back to a bud's room that had furry shag carpet and proceed to wildly scuff stocking feet on the floor while holding flourescent and black light tubes between palms. The illumination was truly awe inspiring or possibly more that our state of mind was. And that was before that damn Star Wars was even invented. Kids these days just don't know how to enjoy a buzz.
  7. I'l be waiting at Kinkos.
  8. not jumping the gun what-so-ever. single disc will be nice and refreshing and as it should be from here out!!! will PM soon.
  9. nice! edit: Just put these here as they are very cool. I will need to check in to Mike's recs.
  10. Really? Coincidentally, I received from Mr. Tanno the 'Blues Inside Out' title yesterday and enjoyed the first spin. First exposure to Pauer....guess I'll have to check out one of those non-"dim" ones. ← Yeys, that trio stuff on Wewerka is right up your strassa!
  11. This one arrived from CDU yesterday. Just a burnt TOCJ here and no time to compare but the sound is great. No hissy remaster or bombastic compression volume hijinx. My first Water purchase BTW and these folks do it right. The sleeve notes are on heavy weight glossy coated stock - not the cheap stuff you can see the type from the other side thru - Blue Note Roques all the way like a Connoisseur Edition. Water should start re-issuing all of the Blue Note titles. A sight and sound blind test between this, a TOCJ, a flimsy RVG and even a Mosaic Select re-issue would unanimously go to Water.
  12. Dusty had these for a time and even had a special on them(?). Today's selection is a bit more limited b@$+@^D$ The two Pauer's - 'Beat the Beat' and 'The Rambler' are a couple of fantastic piano trio sets. Makes that later day 70's Pauer "Blues..." on MPS look dim. :tup Also recommended is the Ronnie Ross. And the comp 'Night Bounce' has a rollicking short take of "Cleopatra's Needle" with some Wes-ish comping.
  13. Great for sorting things out! ← one might think we could get a gif of a bunch of smilies racing down the ramp and into the fold!!
  14. Thanks for the discs Tom and all. Quite a nice listen after all tracks were sorted thru. Not much up my alley so I can only venture a few guesses. This mid-sixties electric period that much is derivative of is almost non-existent in my collection. Another ear-opener fer certain. On to the "fun" one. Track 1 - Sounds like a George Winston soundtrack piece but I know not much of him these days since new age is old. Track 2 - A bit of a Bill Evans Waltz? Just a snip from a solo. A beautiful Sunday morning opener. Track 3 - Another soundtrack and maybe a Mark Isham mute. (which is what I did) Probably one of the Rooster's bootlegged trumpeters. Track 4 - Now we got some sauce going. A "Freedom Jazz dance" of sorts but no idea of the players... an electric eddie harris thing? Track 5 - "Naked Camera" from Hancock's 'Blow Up' w/ Hubbard / Henderson. Not too certain of the facts on this discography. I had read that this was a British session thru and thru but notes said that Herbie was dissatisfied and laid it down in the states. Maybe some of the Brits can weigh in as to whether there exists some Rendell / Carr in here??? Track 6 - Nice segue from the same period and amazing that there is such a difference in them ideas. Got to be Miles but I have not listened hard enough to this era. For shame! Good jump point here!!! Track 7 - No clue but very nice indeed. Lovano comes to mind but not husky enough. Track 8 - No idea. If I new my trumpet players that drunken warble at times would be the tipper. Track 9 - Same excuse but not as drunk. It swings. Track 10 - Clip from Kirk?? that siren at the end. Byard on there?? Track 11 - Rocker... but no idea... sounds very new in that Blue Note revival era. Track 12 - Another in the same genre/period. No styles come to mind here. Geri Allen but not outside enough - great piece though. Very interested in the guesses from the astute. Track 13 - A little Woody tidbit. No clue at all. Track 14 - Good one for being electric Track 15 - ? Track 1 - My favorite of the whole sheebang. Embodies that Hancock / Miles / Electrix and the broody mood of those "soundtrack" cuts. The splashiness sez Willams a bit but the piano is other than Hancock. wheeew! What a whirlwind.
  15. CDUniverse has Roach back at "ships in 1 - 2 days" status.
  16. Nice little steel funk ditty from the Campbell Bros (?) here w/ some Medeski comping along.
  17. click hear! edit for: now dat be some serious "schtick"! but i do agree that the last couple times i've seen them it has been just that. a bit too light on the grease for my liking. i must recommend that an essential purchase be the piano album "notes from the underground" - newly re-mastered w/ an added track of blues grits. and the sound of the re-ish is fenomeenal.
  18. I've never viewed these things as "movies" (and they ain't films) anyhow and have yet to see the last one, BUT ... if you go in watching for all the work done by some of the most phenomenal crafts-talent - concept sketchers, matte painters, costume artists, sculptors etc. - you've got to be more than impressed.
  19. getting only SQL errors till now.
  20. I have a twenty five year old B&O beogram RX-2 that came with a mid-line MMC 3 cartridge. After a decade or so I picked up an MMC2 (a so-called quantum leap over the stock cartridge supplied w/ the table originally) replacement and played that for just a year. That went idle for about five years and the canteliver went kaflooey on one side (age and storage possibly). Now this MMC2 leans outward w/ centrifugal force of the spin, seems to grind high on the outer groove as the needle points inward. I've recently perused and spoke with the chief at Sound Smith. They will rebuild with no charge for failure - and nearly 3 bills for a successful rehash. Upon recently diving into my old blues lps etc I was wondering what you folks with vinyl on the fingertips might recommend. A new table is probably about the same price, don't feel like making a huge investment and I do like that little Beogram. All things considered I could probably sell that rebuilt MM2 after I got it back for the price of the service. Any thoughts appreciated.
  21. quite the memory there kalo! brings me right back. i was standing to the side for the show and seem to remember it was hot in there. right, that it was the guy in the audience who helped out on percussion! i think Bennink even did a clog solo? a bit reminiscent of Willem Breuker at the Nightstage laying out for some solos and joining a table in front for a beer and a hearty shoe shine. do bands still have fun like this anymore? maybe it's just a Dutch thing.
  22. sounds like "Punch-Drunk Love" to me.
