  1. John, I could not resist and padded a DGA order w/ the disc titled "Abstractions" (NJRmwng) from Wewerka. The title * "Blue Fanfare" weighs in at 10:19. All others are nearly the same with a few extra seconds on each.
  2. i spelt it wrong as it is w/ a "c" (silly fingers). how can you hate it? dig is right. invented by some backseat Bahian toddler with an empty McFlurry. we look forward. :rsmile:
  3. Chuck's been tryin' ta call ya all day!
  4. Re-reading the posts I see this track has been snuffled out and I guessed the title of the tune without even googling or nuthin'. Made my day thasall! The demonchaser on the oil cans. ← Right album, wrong tune! ← sheet, never could get under the stick anyhow! JimR and mikeweil had the album.
  5. hey, it was a QUEST. I take those seriously. ← I'm walking right over to my speakers with a match, now.

  7. I thought Dan had an exclusive with the NotMyCupOfTea line of beverages?
  8. Bullocks!! Come now, you must! If I've had them up in the north at some pseudo BBQs then I'm sure any joint in your neck would beat them hands down - and courage is aplenty considering BFT 26 part deux. Rams' are best. I knew this one only from the Proper Box I got Dad for Father's Day last. LockJaw loved hangin' around that kitchen!
  9. Nice read thus far. Track Four ... of course Etta Jones. Dang! Track Three ... Sanborn?!, if so, needs to make a real album (kind of like Mariah Carey really does too) - one that appeals to me - cause he sure can deliver in his own world. Anyone ever see him with Berne and Zorn doing the Ornette covers? ... now that would be cool again. Track Eleven ... Is that really "The Beat Goes On"? them last few tracks are certainly nice in how that skate around the calypso ... thumbs for the fun.
  10. Seeing that Jim had posted the first disc in answer mode I'd best get this on on the table. T 1 - This must be that late seventoes band who i've heard none of. Home of the human cuixa and then the real one. That be Zawinul and Purim and Airto or something? And maybe that's Lateef in the band that mr. couw hips and recs. tis quite the lively party mode here amongst the happy people. Worth every penny and pop just for that tenor solo(s) that snakes throughout. Would I be the fool to say that Adderley lays out? T 2 - More military maneuvers from Jim's past BFT? Burning it down ... this might be a Philly group? Arkestra w/ symphonic strings attached? Quite a soundtrack to something here? Not for the weak of ear by any means. T 3 - "Try a Little Tenderness" w a bit of smoove. Almost waitng for the segue into JB's Riddle reckid from BFTs past. Nice and dare I say it's Sanborn? If so you know that guy can play. T 4 - More "Moonlight" ... I like this woman but that Ammonsish tenor is the key. Can't put a name here but very swinging new sound. T 5 - Not up to snuff on much and modern trumpeters are at the top. T 6 - Man I've heard this or have it!? Quite a grand lesson within. hmmmm. T 7 - Oliver chart? a bit of that CTI '"St. James Infirmary" but it is another more soul oriented tune. T 8 - Only pan player I know is Andy Narrell and he's pretty much straight. This is a real deal in Limbo. T 9 - Yikes. I'll sit thru it just cause Jim made the disk and there is something here that needs to be taken from this but that rational is tough after a few minutes of the eleven. Wants to be some weird Hancock thing but once the vocoder hits all I think of is Frampton with an afro. T 10 - hmmm again ... the tune is a standard, no? T 11 - hmmm again??? Man that was one wacky ride. This will be an interesting read to see who knows who here. Thanks in advance for the subliminal ear opening that went on. I can't seems to sniff out the farts ... but considering this originated in Plano!
  11. Very cool stuff!! Basquiat meets Schiele. Nice one of one of my hometown boys.
  12. I was at the newsstand yesterday and saw that the newest issue of "The WIRE" has a Morton section devoted to solo works with breakdowns by instrument and artist. Only skimmed the content but it looked like a good primer. Wire Solo mp3s
  13. Is that "Days Aweigh", Lon? ... my first Wilson LP on that old hefty german polygram wax. Love that album much to many chagrins I see. 'Apricots on their Wings" and "Let's Face The Music" and more...
  14. Where's "mnytime"?
  15. nice pic WL ... is that the sea in the background? i think we need another shot. it's up to high nineties again and the humidity is a billion. these babies made snacks of me just from the car to the studio. "Greenhead: Tabanus Americanus Flyupyershortsnbiteyerbutt"
  16. tough crowd... how about his art then?
  17. was this on The Count's epitaph?
  18. Dang my ears were screwed on upside down. Of course "Time After Time"... marvelous how they work this into almost another tune entirely and barely touch on the quotes when they do. Where I got "how high the moon and but not for me"'s bastard child I'll never know as I hear none of it now. Funny stuff this music.
  19. ← Glad somebody got it. I've always tried to think of this one as a furthering of "Lifetime", maybe conceptually, but try as I might I won't any longer. This set is still a tough one for me, but then again so is OTL for some reason. Yet "Love Song" is still a standout beauty!
  20. Wow ... fantastic set ... reminds me of my favorite RI - DJ going at it with pinpoint abandon. So much to take in here and seeing that many have hit the floor my take will have to do cause I can't wait to see the postings thus far. Great seguelisciousness of toonz as I would expect. Biggest of s. (Still was hoping for something from Jerome Richardson's "At The Movies" LP to appear... ) T1 - This "tune" certainly ain't "faint"... McDuff or McGriff groovin high ... quite a speedy geetar so it ain't Grant. I just recently rcvd the best of McDuff on Fantasy and this has all the cues. Great start up! Was this group on Gould's test and you put it at the top so he wouldn't fast forward?! T2 - Dang this belongs in that illicit album cover thread? That's some heavy cream in this one - no fluff. So who is the response vox your looking for? Bet it will be a kick. T3 - Cheescake with a hot sauce chaser ... we got a party disc here!!! A bit too stripped down to be Machito but maybe this is from his jazz sets. T4 - Nice segue on the horn here. That bit of electric bass and guitar buried under there is seemingly out of place or is it just that this platter has seen many parties. Great intro solo followed by another on the bone ... that guy is dancing all over that slide, straight up as is the third soprano. Damn killer Parker tune here!? But what is it ?... on the tip o the tongue. T5 - "Gone with the Wind" ? cracklingly good T6 - maybe any number of Gillespie concert bands but no idea... another fine romp. T7 - One of the odd ducks that came out of nowhere on me about half way thru... the kind of song that just grows ... maybe due to that boowounding bass stretchiness in there. The rhythm behind this one raises it high above the glossiness that I first heard at it's onset (first notes had me at "sing you to sleep after the lovin'"). Sketching away in between I found myself over-riding the groove and really getting into a tune hat I'd normally pass by. A Turrentine from the seventies?Gator with a Fat Head?? no clue on the artist taking this away. T8 - David Sedaris or Madeline Pyro's au'pair. I like how the vox is sandwiched between the horns. But that this IS really Billie has me fooled. Everyone was drunk , playing hearts out. T9 - Hey wait, BFTers have been berated for putting "...four roses" on their test and now this ! An early killer ... I have visions of Ethel doing a "Dance of the Hours" lindy-hop! The percussive splashes (Jo Jones?) at the end with that swank of "Splank" makes this one more than necessary. T10 - Big time Nelson sound?? A CTI from the seventies?? T11 - Tune is very familiar but not up to chuff w/ my standards. I hear Bags humming in the back but no clue really. T12 - Another tune that is so familiar ... nice relaxing read and wish that it did not have so much scrap at the high end. T13 - ? William S reading Edgar Rice's Thuvia of Mars. Really no clue who the moon maiden's troubadour might be. T14 - Appetizers an hour after dessert? Making me hungry for some of these bbq'd medallions. No hoof in mouth here, just make certain ya cook em plenty or you'll end up w/ lockjaw. T15 - Another question of green cheese altitude quoted under this and a guess is not for me. ? T16 - Now for beverages!? T17 - ? Nice midnight hours apertif. Betty Carter after a good lungy hawking??? eager to hear set two (as much as I complain about too much toons)
  21. Maybe it is an "Adderley", "King Cole", "Hentoff" kinda thing but UP for yall's 'defiNATelies' !!
  22. those Crombies were actually the soundtrack cues to 'Man From Interpol'.
  23. There's the point! Given the extremes of technology today I'd have to favor Nicklaus back in the day over the whole deal cause it's the "head" that would be the best stick in the bag if Tiger were playing persimons, blades and old balatas. ... that would sure be some fun fantasy match. One of my defining memories as a kid was kneeling right up next to the tee box marker on #16 at the Firestone World Series of Golf in Akron (had to watch quite a few no slouchers before him to get that perfect spot all to myself). Jack came right out of his shoes taking the 600 yard Monster in two. Sweet!
  24. When I bought comics at the store on the corner they were 12 Cents!! While my buds were going superhero I always went with Tarzan and his son Korak!
