Seredipitous fact there!
He might be OK and acknowledge that Hawaii was not even a state when he was born and that whole other conflict was merely a police action.
Damn, I was hoping Jack would kick his ass as a swan song.
Did you see the new Nike spot with the young Tiger transposed into the throngs of galleries at St. Andrews? Great!!
While I regretfully have NO Helen Merrill on my shelves (save for a cut from Ubu's BFT) YET and subject to change...
I must recommend this soundtrack to a 1962 Italian comedy (?) from Dusty that features Helen on only a few cuts but fantastic they are.
Sandro Brugnolini & Modern Jazz Gang -- 'Gli Arcangeli'
Helen's vocals are featured on a bouncy vibed go-go swinger (with an alternate), a bright flute backed torch song and an Italian blues that was possibly the flint for David Lynch hiring off Koko Taylor to pour sweat into 'Wild at Heart's "Up in Flames" cue.
The rest of the disc is just as appealing with a lean toward Gruntz' 'Mental Cruelty' ST and Miles' 'Scaffold'. An early sixties Italian delicacy with some dixie and cha cha tossed in for spice.
Now if anyone HAS heard this and recommends more up this alley I'm all ears.
Certainly not quite the usual Japanese paper sleeves.
Maybe the Brits w/ the original vinyls can confirm - I was told that these are EXACT replicas of the way that Fontana made the sleeves back in the sixties. Hence some of the reasoning that these old relics are in such demand if pristine?
This one does not do too badly.

I foggily caught a bit on last nites news of an interview with Wells talking about how Rogers got a raw deal with the cameramen. Seems they provoked the guy and unfortunately went schoolyard, just where they wanted him. Wells was dropping F-bombs about the press and the situation precisely pointing to a video clip of one of the punked cameramen 'winking' to the other that they had the goods on Rogers after his little tantrum. Kids.
any tips on this? wondering if the readings are pretty straight and that this might be a simple quick re-hash record despite the cast, but i've been so knoocked out by the truly original 'Satan in High Heels' that it could be hard to resist.
wow, nice!! (well plenty south of there).
please do give us a rundown ... great if ony to see acoustic masada and osby, not to mention the sheer beauty i would imagine. maybe if one hides inside of a ceramic bird ...
yes, yes and those sessions with Silver on the bench are the cornerstones of "funk" - which, btw, I tried to explain to my kids just yesterday that jazz gave birth to funk and that the Black Eyed Peas are not worthy successors by any means!
thanks Pete.
FWIW the recent Harkit release (see the Bastards) is the same material sans 5 extra takes of "Tubby's Blues" and under the title 'On The Air'. I happened to e-mail AoLR earlier regarding this release and received this mail that confirms some suspicion regarding Harkit ... plus if you pre-order you get $3.00 off so it works out to be a bit less than Dusty Groove.
