I too love this record and thinks it will be the one that will go down as their most enduring. I'd love to see them come up with this type of album again with the organ at the helm. It sounds as if from the samples on the Blue Note site that the new one will be more of same post Shack sound ... too much Kona Gold and Mona Lia Black - although Ribot on board again adds some nice color! And now that Phish is gonzo, these guys are thee jamm band. And how did that ever come to be anywhoo??

Jim R, I'm just looking at this comp here but it only states that title. It is from that '65 Forma disco. 4:54 and beginning with a very calming guitar, vibe and piano intro that turns into a sort of modal waltz, with some room for a bit of outstanding vibraphone work, then turning it's head "Into The Hot" B-) of an almost Gil Evans-ish piece.

Posse Pummels Peeping Tom
Man with the Golden Arm replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
my family, in particular my mother, were plagued by a peeping-tom one summer when i was a little kid. he would appear in the picture window behind the rhodadendrums and would rattle the handles on the doors. it was some scarey, scarey shit!!! dad worked evenings and that's when it would start. mom and i would crawl on the floor and hide upstairs. luckily as dad worked for the phone company we had phones all around the haouse. the cops could never catch the guy or were even so inclined. i recall my dad and his work buds parking blocks away and hiding out on the roof one nite. sort of one of those silent subjects that families have, so i'm not sure whatever happened that night, whether he was "caught", scared away or ... but he never peeped again! -
I saw that the release of the original 'Coisas' album will soon appear from Dubas and DGA shows it as September. The cut "Coisa No2" on that comp above is astounding!

Arrived perfect. Will try to cue it up tomorrow. Thanks!

Damnit this thread is killing me. That's a good thing Jim. Ordered this on a lark, sort of, and must say as far as comps go this thing is the soundtrack to JimR's thread. Absolutely one of those expertly crafted amalgams that makes you thirst for more. Fabulously essential!!! Tenorio Jr. (featured a few times here) is as much a badass as Mendes and Vinhas! Be not fooleed by the lack of creativity in the title ... this is Hard Bossa cum Cealis!

Couldn't agree w/ you more. And good to know you'd toss a line! That is one classic rivalry that was truly a freindly one off the turf for the fans. Looking forward to the two division sets was as ritual as any other holiday. Having only been to one in person (Browns won on Monday nite!!) you truly had the feeling of a good time no matter what. None of the ugliness that seems to haunt the Sox/Yankees ever seemed present back in the day. The move of the Colts was indeed the beginning of the end for football as we all knew it. And those last days of Jim O'Brien socking it to the Cowboys is certainly akin to the Patriots of today. I've truly lost all hope and a great bit of interest in the recent years after the Browns got shanghaied (the Ravens seem like a team with absolutely no reason to be as far as an old football fan is concerned - right down to the drop shadow type face they use on the uniform numbers and the embodyment of the whole "urbanization" of the NFL). Having not been in Ohio for the past twenty years and being engulfed by rabid Patriot mania and kids who just play soccer doesn't help much either. B-) -
#15 - Blindfold Test (Discussions)
Man with the Golden Arm replied to marcoliv's topic in Blindfold Test
Oops, I meant #8 not #4 above. This thing is still getting me. It's probably so obvious, I was counting on someone to make a stab here. It does sound a wee big bit like Shorter but nah. The piano seems a bit too light at the right hand to be Tyner, would you agree? The duality of the horns is really, really great as someone had mentioned earlier. I would like to think it might be some Charlie Haden thing just cause you mentioned L.A. but he's not so up in the mix as his sessions, right? Is it more modern in terms of L.A. or a seventies or earlier piece?? Hmmm? -

quesos in all the non authentic restaurants are velveeta based to some degree, i believe. it won't seize up that way. i mean you can pretty much work with caulking for about an hour before it really sets in to the tile. pour some hot salsa in there and add salty chips, many beers and who cares!!! just make sure to take the pigskin out at half-time to wear a bit of it off! but if someone knows how to make it better let er rippp. -

Luckily we accidentally turned on the tube during our little bit of August-don't-turn-on-the-TV-month (glad that little indescresion is over). Happy that Heffron one. Maybe he'll start posting jokes here in UPPER CASE! -

Sorry to hear that. I'm originally from Pittsburgh and so I'm all about the Steelers and their Four Super Bowl Trophies (However, I do think Jim Brown was the best player to ever put on a football uniform.) Growing up in Canton, OH and having my boy-hood best friend originally from Squirrel Hill provided for lots of fond memories. Rootin' for the Browns post Modell (someone who should be brought up on human rights violations) is truly tough. -
Cynical Hysterie! thank goodness there are folks out there who will pick up a collectable when a remastered edition is available at the ready!

Uh oh, trouble with my NAD cd player
Man with the Golden Arm replied to robviti's topic in Audio Talk
audio lab is a much better solve!!! plus it won't be wrestled around in a truck. i did not realize the BEE suffix was a term for the newest 520 series. (funnin w/o the smiley.) looking now at the site i see this is a pretty strong sounding unit. i wonder how much better those Nichicon “Muse” capacitors sound in that 542? i have an older 520 as a home unit and it still plays great! the 541i at my studio has it's only troubles playing CDRs that are burned at high speeds. the piece has tracking problems at the outer minutes of the disc when you try to skip to a track but plays just fine once it finally gets on it. it almost looks like it's working hard to oversample itself to find the right spot to settle into. my only prob with that 520 was that it would not play the last cut of one of those BN breakbeats discs as it clocked in at 80 minutes to the tee. great machinery IMO. -

i thought we were egging you buy the 541i? so you went with discontinued goods ?? sorry to hear about that. "the workbench" or "audio workbench" does all the NAD post and warranty work here. it is located in Norwood so not far from Cambridge. i've got them at 800 263 4641 or 781 769 4337. ups will get it there in a day and a day back. nice, nice folks! -
Yeah! Get someone on this asap! With Blue Note going all pop you might think that these excellent forrays into the blues w/ Dr. John, Stevie Ray etc... might warrant an easy print ad for a nice price twofer!!

I have not thought much of this stuff since the late seventies but "Low Spark" was one of those tunes an older buddy and vietnam vet turned me on to (& certainly not just that lp ). Well since all my vinyl is at rest with nothing to play them on I loaded up the cut from iTunes - 11:44 for $.99!!! - and am listening now. What a great great piece. Now I'm trying to figure out how to download something that might enhance the mood as was done in the old days.
